... from Skyline Drive we could see two oceans. It was beautiful...
In a nutshell
Capital of the US Virgin Islands, this small island is one of the Caribbean's most beautiful. Volcanic and cloaked in green, a spine of mountains run from east to west, and you can drive along the top for an amazing view of the island on either side. The capital, Charlotte Amalie, was once a watering hole for explorers and adventurers - today it's home to some of the Caribbean's best duty free shopping as well as having some pretty pastel-coloured Dutch colonial buildings and historic churches. Don't miss the Paradise Point Tramway (actually a cable car) which takes you up 700ft to Paradise Point for some wonderful views. St Thomas is home to 44 beaches including Magens Bay on the north coast, which is the island's finest and is very safe for children, while Coki Beach has good snorkelling just off shore. Take a boat cruise or rent your own vessel to explore the coastline's nooks and crannies and visit the beautiful deserted isle of Hassel.
