The hotel is so called because it's at number 30, East 30th Street, a lower Midtown location and an easy walk from the Empire State Building and the cavernous Macy's department store. It's also just a block from the subway, and an easy walk from restaurants on Park Avenue.
To walk up to Times Square takes about 25 min. After a hard day's shopping and sightseeing, the cocktail bar is a very welcoming place to enjoy a margarita before heading out on the town.
