The locals now call it SoBe. Well, so be
it! You may have heard recently that
it's become one of the hottest
nightlife places in the USA, with
celebrities queuing up to open trendy
bars and restaurants here. Madonna,
as always, started the trend, and she's
been joined by stars as diverse as
Ricky Martin and Cameron Diaz. The
clothes shops are the coolest around,
you can buy funky designer items for
your home, stroll around ultra-modern
art galleries and people watch in the
street-side caféés. The old art deco
hotels started being renovated in the
'80s and now the whole area is a
gorgeous palette of pastel colours,
neon signs, portholes and sleek
square lines.
The beach itself is long with white
sand, and in your car you can drive to
other wonderful beaches
and classy shopping malls.
The Electrowave Park and Ride
Shuttle system offers transportation
around South Beach and the Art Deco
district, stopping every 10-15 minutes
and costing just 25 cents each way.
