In a nutshell
Surrounded by glistening mountain peaks and glacier-carved alpine lakes, this is an outdoor wonderland! Nine deep blue lakes form the Mammoth Lakes Basin and another 100 lakes dot the surrounding countryside. The region bubbles with hot springs too. You can walk woodland trails through dense forests, paddle in crystal-clear streams and indulge in a spot of fishing. There's a 90-mile cycle trail network in the Bike Park and plenty of organised fun for kids. Sightseeing trips include the Devil's Postpile National Monument, Rainbow Falls and beautiful Tamarack Lake. When the day is over, head into Mammoth Lakes and unwind in one of the restaurants and bars. Mammoth is great place to base yourself when exploring the area, one hundred miles from Death Valley and only 40 minutes to the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park.
Eats & drinks
For seafood and entertainment, head for Ocean Harvest. Grumpy's Saloon and Eatery is a popular sports bar.
