In a nutshell
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling the names roll
off the tongue (and the wines roll down it!). If you enjoy the good things in
life - and who doesn't - you'll love the California wine region.
These days, the fine food on offer here is as important as the 29,000 acres
of grapes. In the last few years, some of the best urban chefs in America
have made their way to the region, attracted by the great fresh produce
and, of course, the accompanying wines. But fear not, the restaurants are
friendly and informal - very few demand formal dress. The most celebrated
of all is the French Laundry, one of Americas best restaurants (be sure to
book well in advance).
In Napa town, you must visit Copia - its a museum of
(or rather a shrine to) the best in American food and wine.
Obviously, fine food and wine go hand-in-hand with quality accommodation,
and the regions hotels are known for their charm and comforts.
This is the
land of the spa, so lie back and enjoy a nice bit of pampering. Visit the mud
baths of Calistoga, and explore the other little towns of this pretty region.
