Couples Sans Souci

My husband and I travelled with another couple to Sans souci...last year!! However, it was honestly the best trip of our lives and even a year later we cannot forget the remarkable and out of this world experience we had at sans souci. As soon as we walked into the lobby it was paradise. The palm trees, the ocean in the background and the warm and inviting staff. My husband I were upgraded to the penthouse suite and were treated like royalty. Every night they provided entertainment and fed us the most amazing food. The breakfast and lunch buffet was excellent and I have never eaten two breakfasts in my life until I went to Sans Souci. The property is exquisite! It's private, lovely, well taken care of and truly a piece of paradise in Jamaica. The only thing people may not like is it can be too quite during the day. However, if you cannot entertain yourself and leave your resort during the day to explore the island, that's your problem. I would return to Sans Souci every year if I could. My boyfriend and I love to travel. We would like to see every place, so we only go once and move on. However, we will one day return to Couples. We loved it! We traveled there last November and had the time of our lives! The resort is big but it isnt over crowded, so you can always find a seclusive spot, from the mineral spa to the hot tub tucked away in the tropical landscapes. The staff was great, we requsted bottles of wine and extra stuff and they always had it there ready to go. The food was good and always a different selection. It rained for 3 days while we were there but we were never bored, there was always something to do, from the swim up bar to the spa (which was amazing!) The staff was friendly and there to please. The views are amazing, filled with tropical lush. We did a lot of excursions and recommened Dunns river (go on a day that cruise ships dont land there) and mystic mountain (bobsledding). The rooms were nice ( we upgraded) and were totally pleased. The only negative thing we have to say is the water pressure in the shower wasnt great, but who cares! The beach was nice and well maintained The had a live Jamaican music and a show in the bar one night which was a lot of fun! There were tucked away hammocks all over the resort and it was the perfect mix of relaxing and romantic. We definitely recommend couples and can't wait to go back!! Close

My husband and I stayed at the Couples Sans Souci May 13-20 and were blown away by the outstanding service and outgoing nature of the staff. Everyone was helpful and friendly and went out of their way to spend time with us, checking back with us to see that we had been helped. Lij at guest services and Ilgrid with the entertainment staff were great! The resort was very clean and I was surprised by how quiet and relaxing it seemed compared to the Couples Negril that we had stayed at 2 years prior. CSS is for romance and relaxation! Our room, a 1 bedroom beachfront w/jacuzzi tub on B block, was perfect. It was right next to the beach and 2 of the restaurants and main pool. It was never hard to find a beach chair, though if you want one under an umbrella you should reserve it in the morning. Although the manager said the resort was at 90% capacity it seemed like there were hardly any people there, nothing was ever crowded and the only time you really saw how many people were there were the 2 buffet nights. The waitstaff are so nice and so hard working- Machel who usually works at the Palazina, waited on my husband and I almost every breakfast and dinner. He would even order smoothies and omelettes for us so we didn't have to wait in line for them and them bring them to us. The food at all the restaurants is outstanding! The San souci patties at the beach grill/bella vista are good, the palazina has great steaks for dinner and for lunch they usually have a good sandwich bar or rotisserie station and the casanova (which has a piano player) has great shrimp bisque, salad for two, rack of lamb and steak. The room service is good too, though I would go to the palazina for breakfast to get the omelette/pancake/waffle bar! There is a sea turtle that lives in a little grotto area of the resort and you get to watch them feed her every day. There are also several little gazebos near the ocean where you can get massages and other services. There is a nude beach but it is totally separate from the rest of the resort. the beach on the resort is private so there are no other resorts or anything right next to it. There was never a problem getting to take out the catamarans or going snorkeling but the glass bottom boat tours were always booked. It was nice that for the things you had to sign up for (like snorkeling) or make reservations for dinner at the palazina and casanova you could make them for days in advance if you wanted or the same day. there wasn't any rules about only being able to book/reserve 1 day in advance and get up and wait in line at 8 am to do it- like at Negril. We were always able to get in to any restaurant we wanted for dinner. No problems mon! It is very relaxing! There were also all kinds of little hideaways for you to be alone and enjoy the view with your spouse. We explored the resort and found several little spots where you could just go to be alone. There was also a couple spots like the gazebo and near the mineral grotto where they said you could arrange to have a romantic dinner alone. ps- the mineral grotto is freezing cold and has fish and crabs in it! The mineral pool is nice though and has a little juice/smoothie bar next to it. The only thing not great about the CSS is the amount of stairs, but they have 24 hour bellboy/driver service and they can drive you to or from your room! That is nice when you have to walk from the bottom of the stairs to the top in your nice heels to go to dinner! The return guest dinner was really nice and we got to know some of the other couple and staff members there. we went on the dunns river tour that is included in the resort package and it was really fun! One guy lost his wedding ring there though so be careful about wearing jewelry when doing the dunns river falls tour. Also they sell dvd's of your falls trek for $40 which they will bring to the resort so you don't have to have the cash on you there, but we talked the guy down to $25- still steep for a goofy dvd of us climbing the falls. they will also take pics for you if you bring a water camera. We also did the Dolphin Cove to swim with the dolphins- we had thought about trying to book it ourselves but we were glad we just booked it through the tour desk at the resort because she gave us a free upgrade from the "dolphin encounter" to the "dolphin swim"- saved about $200! The swim packages are advertised to be about 30 minutes with the dolphins but I guess since the place wasn't very busy we got to spend closer to an hour out there with the dolphins! they do rip you off there by saying you can bring a water camera- but you aren't allowed to take pictures of anything! except when you snorkel in this one area that has a few stingray and puffer fish. they will let you hold the stingray but any pics you want of them and you or you and the dolphhins you have to pay for, about $16 a photo!! There is also a "shark show"- don't go expecting something like a Seaworld show, it is pretty goofy. But you can pay extra to swim with the sharks if you want (they are nurse sharks I think). We also went to mystic mountain to ride the jamaican bobsled ride. My husband and I saw this on a travel show and they said it went about 40 mph. Well, after we got off the ride, feeling beat up and terrified, they told us that because it had been raining and the tracks were wet the ride went about twice as fast as normal and that it wasn't as smooth a ride as it usually is. There is also only 1 seatbelt, not a 5 point harness so going that fast, it really felt like we might fly off the tracks or out of the bobsled! we should have done the zipline instead. Overall our trip was wonderful! We booked during a time where we got $350 worth of spa credit and $150 gift shop credit so that was really nice. We also got t shirts, a free 30 min couples massage and the return guest dinner. Lij at guest services made sure that we got signed up on the Romance Rewards program while we were there so we could get our return guest stuff. The entertainment there was also good. Some nights they had a band and sometimes they played little games with the staff and guests. We never stayed up late enough to check out the sing alongs or kareoke nights though. It rained almost every day or evening we were there but it didn't ruin anything, and it was still the best vacation ever. The people there make you truly feel taken care of and like they want to be there and spend time with you This was 100% better than our experience at Couples Negril and I can't wait to go back to CSS as soon as possible! Wow!! What a fantastic place Couples Sans souci is . . we arrived on May 26th for 2 weeks for our honeymoon , , from the start we were greeted with the typical happy laid back Jamaican style and met in the airport with a cold beer. the transfer was about 1 1/2 hours but was by air con mini bus so wasn't a problem. Check in was straight forward and we were shown to our room by the conceirge who also showed us how to use the air con system and where the mini bar was etc etc . . we have enjoyed 2 weeks of FANTASTIC service - the staff here really cannot do enough for you . . Make sure you go to Dunns River Falls - what an amazing trip ! Very refreshing when it's so hot !! We also went to Martha Brae which is a bamboo raft trip - Spence our captain was fantastic but for what we paid - it was very pricey - worked out at approx $70 each - worth doing though as was peaceful and something a little different. We also did the champagne cruise directly through the hotel. This was great as you have a speedboat ride for upto 4 people and the staff who take you out point out the local sites etc . . well worth the $90 we paid per couple. The rooms in the hotel (we were in a beachfront jacuzzi villa in B Block) are what I would describe as shabby chic. They do have a beach feel to them but the bathroom could do with a little updating. Restaurants are fantastic - the beach grill was limited in the evening for me as I am vegetarian but my partner enjoyed the food and it was always cooked really well. Our favourite evening was the starlite gala - the staff spend the whole day preparing putting up little tents/marquees and the lights on the lawn next to the beach - it transforms the complex completely and feels really romantic and magical ! Food is fantastic and its the time in the week where you are asked to dress to impress. Our overall impression of Couples San Souci is that we will definitely be back again we loved every minute of our honeymoon and didnt want to leave. My husband and I just got back from Couples Sans Souci this past Sunday, we were originally supposed to go to an Excellence resort in Riviera Maya but had to change our plans due to the flu. It was my first trip to Jamaica and his second, a bit of a culture shock for me! All in all the resort was nice. Most of the staff was very friendly and willing to go out of their way to do what we needed. Miguel and Carlon were our favorites! Some of the staff seemed to get confused when we asked for something extra. For example, one night my husband asked for something to wrap his pizza up in so he could take it back to the room... he got a confused look, the server took his pizza and never brought it back. There were also a few times when we asked for a drink and it never came (once at Palazzina and once at Cassanova) so we had to ask twice. The food was pretty good, we tried all of the restaurants and weren't dissappointed at all. Some of the female staff was a bit rude also, the girl in the gift shop started to argue with me because I said a toe ring they had for sale was broken... which it was. If you're going to shop for souviners I would do it in town, it's probably cheaper. The Beach Party and Starlight Gala were both great, but make sure to bring your bug spray because there are LOTS of bugs! My legs are still itching. There was some sort of entertainment outside of the balloon bar every night, but we only went to the newlywed and jamaican idol shows. The Jamaican Idol one was great! There are also lots of water activities you can sign up for, and a few free trips to town (shopping, Dunn's River) We didn't do any of those... But we did go to Dolphin Cove and on the Zipline tour, both of which I would highly reccomend (not free though!) The resort was fairly clean, it's super humid so everything was always damp. We had to close the french doors to our bedroom in our suite every night to stay comfortable. One thing I did notice is that the couches in the lobby are moldy, from the humidity I would assume. It may not be something that they can help, either way I found it a bit gross. Housekeeping was good, we always had fresh towels and clean sheets though. They come twice a day, once to clean and once to do turn down. But there are quite a few people who "stop" by your room to do things during the day... housekeeping, mini bar refiller, etc. I didn't like that there were so many people in our room. We kept all of our valuables locked up in our safe when we weren't in the room. It wasn't worth risking it being stolen. We also got an 80 minute massage. It was ok... more of a rubdown than a massage. I wouldn't waste the money on it. I was expecting a little more pressure. The scenery for the massage is great though, right in a little hut on the beach cliff. All in all the resort was alright, I may go back but I would probably rather try another resort... Close
