Additional info
The Panama Canal
Considered to be the Eighth Wonder of the World, this is perhaps Panama's most famous landmark. Operating since 1914, it transports ships via a series of gravity-powered locks, which have to be seen to be believed!
The Rainforest
Panama's vast, tropical rainforests are among the richest and most complex ecosystems on the planet. National parks abound. Those keen on birdlife and wildlife will be spoilt for choice.
Beaches
The beaches that border the Caribbean side of Panama boast clear turquoise seas and are particularly recommended for scuba-diving. On the Pacific side, you'll find sandy beaches, such as Playa Blanca, perfect for enjoying water sports or just lazing on!
Activities
Water sports are very much on the agenda with fishing, rafting, diving, snorkelling and surfing all popular. If you prefer to stay on dry land, there are hiking and biking trails in the national parks.
