Destination information
Drenched in sunshine, the South Gold Coast offers just about everything you could want from a holiday – perfect weather, great beaches, history, culture and outdoor pursuits in abundance. Fort Lauderdale is 23 miles from Miami and is known as the ‘Venice of the South’. Boasting an almost endless stretch of golden beach, it also has 300 miles of navigable waterways, making boating here not just a hobby but a way of life. Join in the fun and hire a boat or hop onboard a water taxi for a relaxing cruise. Elsewhere in the city you’ll find parks, golf courses and tennis courts at your disposal or simply linger in a beachfront restaurant, watching the beautiful people go by! Close to Fort Lauderdale is Hollywood, home to the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, named as one of American’s top ten nostalgic promenades. At 2 miles long, you can walk, cycle or skate along it, stopping for a game of sand volleyball en-route perhaps or to grab a cold drink. After dark, the outdoor Beach Theatre keeps the pace lively with a full season of musical performances, festivals and cultural events. Palm Beach is another one of our favourite South Gold Coast resorts. As well as the spectacular coast line we have come to expect from this part of the world, it has a surprising numbers of museums and historical landmarks, including the Boca Raton Museum of Art and Jupiter Inlet Museum. There’s even a museum dedicated to actor Bert Reynolds, essential if you’re a fan or not! If you’re an enthusiast, there are more than 4 dozen golf courses and the shopping is to die for. Worth Street rivals ‘Rodeo Drive’ and between South Ocean Boulevard and Cocoanut Grove, there are more than 200 boutiques, shops, art galleries and restaurants to tempt you!
