Extra Car Hire Charges – Insurance, Taxes and Fees
Although your car hire agreement includes Third Party Liability cover of up
to US$ 1 million, it is vital that you have adequate cover to protect yourself
against financial risk in the event of total loss of the vehicle, damage or
accidents, especially as some US drivers carry little or no insurance. If you
pre-purchase one of our inclusive car packages (see page 29 for details) these
risks are covered, however if you decide not to pre-purchase one of these packages
the following extra charges may be payable
on arrival.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Loss Damage Waiver is not included. It provides Comprehensive Cover for all
damage to the car, no matter how caused, provided you have not violated the
rental agreement. It is technically optional, but if you do not take it you
will be asked to provide evidence of credit worthiness, including a major credit
card with a minimum credit limit of $1,500 and you will be liable for any and
all damage or loss – including loss of use of the rental vehicle up to
its full retail value – regardless of fault.

Underinsured Motorists Protection (UMP)
In the USA motorists can legally drive with only minimal insurance cover. UMP
covers you against the eventuality of your being injured in an accident with
this category of motorist. It is also effective in the event of the other driver
having no insurance. Medical cover is already provided by your holiday insurance
so this cover is secondary to that, but provides compensation up to the limit
of $1 million per accident in the event of serious injury.
UMP Daily Cost $5.99
State Taxes, Airport Fees and Handling Fees
Florida Surcharge Tax $2.05 per day. MIA CFC $3.25 per day. FLL CFC $2.75.
Airport Handling Taxes and Operating Fees $6 per day (Economy and Compact Cars),
$7 per day (Intermediate and Higher). Airport Operating Fee also requires payment
of 8.6% on all options purchased and Sales Tax of 6-7% depending on which city
in Florida the vehicle is rented. No Sales Tax on LDW.
Please note that Customer Facility Charges (CFCs) and/or Homeland Security
Fees (HSFs) are payable at some airport locations. These charges will be included
in your pre-paid packages.
Satellite Navigation System
If you book one of these systems you will need to leave a credit card imprint
with Dollar when you collect your vehicle. Any loss or damage to the equipment
will incur a penalty of up to $700.
