Regarded as Lake Tahoe’s ‘Rising Star’, this brand new village at the base of Northstar Ski Resort looks set to become one of the finest in North America. Just 6 miles from Lake Tahoe, it’s an excellent base for winter sports enthusiasts with 2,420 acres of terrain suitable for both beginners and the more experienced alike, including a vertical drop of 2,280 feet and a thigh-taxing run of 1.3 miles! It’s also home to one of the best snowboarding parks in the country with more than 45 rails, boxes and jibs plus 50 jumps. In 2009 Northstar opened the first and only Burton Snowboard Academy in partnership with Burton Snowboards, a really unique and exciting concept!.


Apres Ski

The pedestrian-friendly village features stylish shopping in boutiques and art galleries and an impressive collection of cafes and restaurants, all centred round a skating rink with COMPLIMENTARY access for guests. The Northstar Recreation Centre is another popular destination with outdoor spas, swimming pools, a fitness centre and family games room just some of the amenities on offer. Accommodation-wise, there’s something for everyone, ranging from luxury condominiums to excellent value-for-money hotel rooms. Wherever you decide to stay, a COMPLIMENTARY shuttle will whisk you to the centre in no time, so get ready to enjoy!


Beginners ****

For those new to skiing there is the ‘Bear Paw’ beginners chairlift to reach the gentle areas of the slopes, ideal for you to develop your ski-legs!

Intermediates ****

You really are spoilt for choice with limitless trails to explore and beautifully groomed slopes. Its easy to cover all areas of the mountain via a fast and efficient lift system.

Advanced ****

More than a quarter of the total skiing area is designed for the confident and advanced skier who enjoys the thrill of a challenging run. Northstar has some designated wooded areas specifically for advanced skiers.

Snowboarders ****

The 8 parks and 2 pipes have an envious array of jumps, hips, rails and boxes along with a 420-foot Superpipe, to keep even the most adventurous boarder entertained.

We have our own dedicated Ski & Board Concierge based in resort, who offers exclusive and personal service to Virgin Holidays’ guests. You can contact him before you even leave home to simply ask for advice or to organise something special for your time in Tahoe! He is an expert and will be on hand when you are in resort, to answer any questions you may have and to make sure you have everything you need for an unforgettable holiday. Our man on the mountain is a local expert on everything from snow conditions, road conditions, restaurants, nightlife, and après ski, to shopping advice on everything from Ski & Board gear to a helmet camera.

Getting thereGetting there

Flight details: Heathrow to San Francisco with Virgin Atlantic

Flight time: 11 hours 5 min.

Drive time: 4 hours drive.

We recommend: A stay in San Francisco before travelling to Tahoe.

Internal flights: If you do not wish to drive from San Francisco, why not take an internal flight to Reno (subject to cost and availability), then collect your car in Reno and drive to your hotel, alternatively pre-book North Tahoe express tickets with us for a 45-min transfer from Reno to North star or Squaw Valley (see below for details).

Transfers: North Tahoe Express £52 per person return, shuttle transfer from Reno airport to your Northstar or Squaw Valley hotel (regular departures throughout the day).
