The beast of the east The biggest mountain in the East has something for everyone. To add to our existing collection in Killington we have added the Inn of the Six Mountains (page 39) with its award winning-restaurant. A short drive from the slopes of Killington is the little town of Rutland, which has a nice selection of restaurants. If you tire yourself out, take a day off and go antiquing, or drive down to Manchester where there are some top designer factory outlets including Armani, Versace, Ralph Lauren and DKNY. Après-ski is full-on in Killington, starting before the sun goes down and continuing all night long!

Après-ski

Killington has the best eats and drinks in New England by far – the whole 5 miles of Killington Road are lined with bars and night spots with live music, dancing and good food. The Wobbly Barn is most famous, making the viable claim to be the USA’s greatest après-ski venue – and they serve great food!

Killington Terrain Breakdown

Beginners 30%.............Intermediates 39%..............Advanced 31%..............

Beginners ****

Great for beginners, with wide, open slopes and a nursery slope which is perfect for first timers.

Intermediates ***

The mountain consists of many long green and blue runs. Pico, which is a ski area nearby, will prove more challenging – some say that the blue runs there are harder than some black runs!

Advanced ***

Killington Peak is the main area for advanced skiers and boarders. It has several double-black runs, as does Snowdon. The ‘Outer Limits’ run claims to be ‘the steepest mogul slope in the East’… try it and see!

Snowboarders ****

There is an excellent nursery slope for beginners as well as 3 terrain parks (and 1 at Pico).

This amazing six-peak area boasts one of the longest seasons in the East. Add to that a great spread of terrain, serious snowboarding action and some of the best après-ski in the USA, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a ski area to play with!

Getting aroundGetting around

A limited shuttle service runs from some of the hotels to the mountain, plus there is an evening trolley service (extra charge).
