Customer choice
North America is an incredibly vast and awe-inspiring continent, but we at Virgin Holidays have been in the business of taking people on holiday there for over 25 years. We've learnt a great deal in that time, but most importantly we've learnt to understand you, our customers.
We only work with scheduled airline partners, who give us the flexibility to tailor-make Ski & Board holidays to your exacting personal requirements. We do recognize however that planning a trip to North America can be intimidating, which is why we're here to help you get the most from your precious time away. That's why all the prices in this brochure are based on what we have found to be the most popular duration for each specific resort, and the most popular way of getting you there. These are very much just our recommendation to you, so feel free to stay longer and see more! You don't have to listen to us.
Our USA & Canada brochures are packed full of hotels, tours and experiences, all of which can be combined with your Ski & Board holiday. Just tell us where you want to go and what you'd like to see and we'll make all the arrangements. After all, why go all that way and just ski?
Here are just a few of our recommendations, that have proved to be the most popular with previous Virgin Holidays travellers:
As American cities go, Boston is as laid back as
they come. Why not spend a few days in town?
Not only is it the home to Harvard University and
3 of the most successful sports teams in the
US, it's also packed full of history and culture.
It's also an incredibly walkable city, so we'd
thoroughly recommend exploring in foot. But
don't forget to catch a game!
We recommend: 1 or 2 nights in Boston followed
by a week in New Hampshire or Vermont.
Getting there: Transfers are advisable for
Boston to save on city centre parking fees
which can be quite high, then collect a car and
drive to New Hampshire or Vermont.
You will fly into the City of Angels, so why not
drink in the sights and sounds of this celebrity
Mecca. Fine dining, shopping, celebrity spotting,
nightlife and the beaches of Santa Monica are all
at your fingertips. Los Angeles offers the ideal
rest-bite between your flight and road trip up
to the mountain should you choose to drive.
We recommend: 3 nights in Los Angeles
combined with 7 nights in Mammoth Mountain.
Getting there: Car hire is the most popular option
however, if driving isn't your thing then there
are daily flights from Los Angeles to Mammoth
making it even more accessible for you.
Tremblant is less than 2 hours north of Montréal
by road, making this one of the easiest and
straightforward options for a city and ski twin
centre. With its multi-coloured rooftops and
lakeside location the village at Tremblant is
every bit the picture postcard, which contrasts
almost ironically with the old town in Montreal.
If culture is your thing, you'll love everything
about this French-speaking city.
We recommend: 2 nights in Montreal combined
with 5 nights in Tremblant
Getting there: Car hire is available although
transfers are generally the preferred option as
the centre of Tremblant Village is pedestrianised.
The Lake Tahoe experience is as much about
the views as the mountain itself, which is why
San Francisco makes the perfect twin centre
option for one of our most popular ski areas.
You'll catch glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge
on the drive back down to the Bay Area, but if
you stayed for a few nights you could hire a
bike and cycle across it! There's also Alcatraz
and the stunning California Academy of
Sciences, so lots to see and do in this eclectic
city of neighbourhoods.
We recommend: 3 nights in San Francisco
combined with 7 nights or more in Lake Tahoe.
Getting there: Transfers are advisable for San
Francisco to save on city centre parking fees
which can be quite high, then pick up a car for
the popular drive to Lake Tahoe.
Calgary is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains,
where the scenery just surrounds you at every
corner. The city is famous for its many festivals,
with events celebrating everything from folk
music to comedy. Why not head to one of the
many shops selling cowboy hats and boots,
they really are hard to resist. But don't be fooled
this is a city of many faces, with fresh oyster
and cocktail bars, boutiques and eclectic
eateries aplenty to tempt you. Calgary is a
perfect pardner for Banff or Lake Louise.
We recommend: 2 nights Calgary combined
with 8 nights or more in Banff or Lake Louise.
Getting there: Car hire is available and is the
best option if you want to combine 2 or more ski
areas with Calgary. However, if you are a one
stop ski kinda guy or gal then transfers are
generally the preferred option.
Beautiful Vancouver on the coast of British
Columbia is the perfect partner for the slopes
of Whistler. With its breathtaking oceanfront
location, surrounded by sandy beaches and
mountains, it really is breathtaking. It would be
a sin not to take advantage of the shopping on
offer, accompanied by a glass of wine or 2 in
one of the many restaurants and bars.
Victoria is a short ferry ride away from the city and
is the perfect spot for whale watching.
We recommend: 3 nights in Vancouver
combined with 7 nights or more in Whistler.
Getting there: Car hire is available although
transfers to Whistler are generally the preferred
option as Whistler Village is pedestrianised.
