Destination information
Calgary enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other major city in Canada, so bring your sunglasses whatever time of year you visit. Whilst the summers are warm and dry thanks to the 'Chinook wind' that visits several times a year, the winter temperatures can be quite variable from one day to the next so make sure you bring plenty of layers to make sure you make the most of the great outdoors.
It’s perfectly placed for winter sports with the world-class centres of Banff and Jasper just an hours drive away. The city is famous for its many festivals with events celebrating everything from folk music to comedy, but it’s probably best known for the Calgary Stampede, an almost-100 year old, ten day rodeo event which takes place every July. Cowboys and snowmen? Calgary’s got the lot!

Getting around
Be careful driving in the winter months, there may not be heavy snow however temperatures do fall enough for roads to be icy and ‘black ice’ can be dangerous. Fortunately, there’s an efficient public transit system in the city and in the downtown core you can even ride the C-Train for free. In the warmer months you can take advantage of the most extensive urban pathway and bike network in North America.
