At the beginning of the Cape is this charming town filled with lovingly preserved historic homes, cobbled streets and quaint antique shops.
In a nutshell
It was first settled by pilgrim traders in the early part of the 17th Century and by the early 19th Century the main source of income was glass making - you can see the evidence of this at the fascinating Sandwich Glass Museum! Other places which reflect the town's history include Hoxie House, which claims to be the oldest colonial house on the Cape, and the Heritage Museum and Gardens with its vintage car collection.
But, you don't need to visit a museum to soak up the wonderful atmosphere of this town - wander down to the classic village green, with its white-steepled church, general store and picturesque houses, stopping in one of the excellent restaurants or boutiques en route, or cross Mill Creek on the unique Sandwich Boardwalk as you make your way down to the lovely public beach on Cape Cod Bay! Popular outdoor pursuits include cycling (the Cape Cod canal paths are a picturesque place to do so), sailing or golf.
