Extra Car Hire Charges-Insurance, Taxes and Fees
Although your car hire agreement includes Third Party Liability cover up to US$ 1 million, it is vital that you have adequate cover to protect yourself against financial risk in the event of total loss of the vehicle, damage or accidents, especially as some US drivers carry little or no insurance. If you pre-purchase one of our inclusive car packages, these risks are covered, however if you decide not to pre-purchase one of these packages the following extra charges may be payable on arrival:

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Loss Damage Waiver is not included. It provides Comprehensive Cover for all damage to the car, no matter how caused, provided you have not violated the rental agreement. It is technically optional, but if you do not take it you will be asked to provide evidence of credit worthiness, including a major credit card limit of $1,500 and you will be liable for any and all damage or loss - including loss of use of the rental vehicle up to its full retail value - regardless of fault.

Underinsured Motorists Protection (UMP)
In the USA motorists can legally drive with only minimal insurance cover. UMP covers you against the eventuality of your being injured in an accident with this category of motorist. It is also effective in the event of the other driver having no insurance. Medical cover is already provided by your holiday insurance so this cover is secondary to that, but provides compensation up to the limit of $1 million per accident in the event of serious injury.

State Taxes, Aiport Fees and Handling Fees
These charges and fees are not included in your car hire, but are ALL included in both of the Virgin Holidays' prepaid packages.
If you do not take one of our pre-purchased packages these charges will all be payable locally and will vary by location, however as a guide in Los Angeles the following charges apply:
Airport Fees 0%-10% on total cost of locally purchased items.
State/Local Charges 8.25% on total cost of locally purchased items.
Please note that Customer Facility Charges (CFCs) and/or Homeland Security Fees (HSFs) are payable as some airport locations. These charges will be included in your pre-paid packages.
Underage Driver Charges
Virgin Holidays'Platinum Prepaid Package also includes the surcharge for drivers aged between 21-24 years:
If paid locally this would cost an additonal $20 per day, based on Los Angeles prices.
Child Seats
Virgin Holidays'Platinum Prepaid Package also includes the surcharge for infant seats, which is compulsory for children under the age of 5 in the US. If paid locally this would cost and additonal $7 per day, based on Los Angeles prices.
Satellite Navigation System
If you book one of these systems you will need to leave a credit card imprint with Dollar when you collect your vehicle. Any loss or damage to the equipment will incur a penalty of up to $700.
