Your route continues to Baie des Chaleurs, bypassing the maritime splendour of the Gaspe Peninsula. This picturesque town was discovered and named by Jacques Cartier in 1534 and is a famous fishing ground for cod, herring and salmon.
Baie des Chaleurs – Perce

Travelling along the coast, pass Port-Daniel, a community of Scottish, Arcadian and Irish descent. Next, take the Capitaine Fournier Road, which provides a good view of a railway tunnel that crosses Cap de l’Enfer – the Cape of Hell!
Perce – Parc de la Gaspesie

As you pass the eastern most tip of the peninsula, visit Forillon National Park with its towering vertical cliffs and landmark lighthouse. Admire the many wild rose bushes which lend nearby Cap-des-Rosiers its name. Continue on to Parc de la Gaspesie with its stunning mountain peaks, home to caribou and moose. The area is popular for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and fishing.
Parc de la Gaspesie – Tadoussac Region

Leave the Gaspe Region today for Tadoussac. Some of the small towns en-route feature local art galleries displaying some of eastern Quebec’s finest artwork, so it’s worth stopping to visit a few. Cross the mighty St Lawrence on one of several ferry crossings, keeping an eye out for whales!
Tadoussac Region – Saguenay

Take a short but scenic drive into Saguenay, admiring views of the waters below at L’Anse-de-Roche. Also en-route is L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Quebec’s ‘Little Switzerland’ with steep mountains flanking it and well-preserved traditional local fieldstone and log architecture. Having reached your destination, join the Dufour family for a whalewatching cruise at the mouth of the Saguenay River.
Saguenay – Lac St Jean Region

Before heading off, explore Saguenay Provincial Park, home to an interpretative centre where you can learn all about the fjord and it’s amazing marine life. Arrive in Lac St Jean early evening.

Plenty of time today to enjoy this impressive region, perhaps heading to the lake to enjoy some boating or fishing. End your second day here with a drive through some wild terrain as you make your way to Saint-Alexis-des-Monts for more outdoor adventure.
