HalifaxHalifax

2 night’s at The Halliburton

Arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia’s capital. Halifax is a very attractive city with art galleries to explore, shops galore, restaurants and nightclubs. Acquaint yourself with a city tour, taking in sights such as Citadel Hill, Halifax Harbour and Point Pleasant Park. You can also hop on-board a ferry for the short trip to Dartmouth. A definite must-see is the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic with its unique collection of memorabilia collected after the tragic Titanic disaster.

Halifax – Kejimkujik National ParkHalifax – Kejimkujik National Park

1 night at Whitman Inn

Depart Halifax and drive the south shore along the Lighthouse Route. En route visit Peggy’s Cove, a picturesque fishing village surrounded by bare granite and coastal barrens and home to the most visited lighthouse in Nova Scotia. Continue on to Lunenburg, a unique town in terms of architecture and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunenburg is the birthplace of the famous Bluenose, built in 1921. Drive north into the Kejimkujik National Park, a spectacular inland National Park with walking trails to suit all levels and some of the best canoeing in Atlantic Canada.

Time for some further exploring of the park before heading north to Digby for an overnight stay, admiring as you drive spectacular views of the Annapolis Basin.

2 night’s at Florentine Manor

Board the ferry (included) this morning to Saint John, New Brunswick, a scenic 3-hour journey. New Brunswick’s largest city, Saint John is steeped in history with plenty to see and do. Attractions include Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site, the old city market, Loyalist House and Reversing Falls, a spectacular sight! Continue along the Fundy Coastal Drive via Saint Martin’s, a scenic fishing village with a strong maritime tradition. Your route takes you inland via Sussex and into Fundy National Park, 206 kilometres of steep coastal cliffs, forest clad hills, deep rich valleys and rolling meadows. The next day is yours to explore at leisure, hiking perhaps with over 104 kilometres of trails to choose from. The park is also a haven for cyclists and canoeists. If time permits, pay a visit to Cape Enrage Lighthouse and Mary’s Point Bird Sanctuary, both nearby.

1 night at Loyalist Lakeview Resort

More natural wonders await you this morning at Hopewell Rocks, where you can walk on the ocean floor and witness the highest tides in the world. Continue along the Acadian Coastal Drive, past Sackville and Elgin, to reach the Confederation Bridge, which provides direct access from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. Summerside is north of P.E.I and very grand indeed with stately homes that once belonged to wealthy ship builders to admire. Nearby Spinnakers Landing is also well worth a visit, an attractive waterfront that brings the shipbuilding era to life.

2 night’s at The Great George

Depart Summerside along the Red Sands Shore, driving north to the Green Gables Shore in Cavendish - home of Anne of Green Gables! After admiring the village that inspired writer Lucy Montgomery to base her world-famous novels here continue to Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island. Your base for 2 nights, there’s plenty to explore including the pretty village of Victoria and the Fort Amherst-Port-La-Joye National Historic Site. Alternatively, walk in the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation. Come sundown, find a charming restaurant to linger in.

Charlottetown - TatamagoucheCharlottetown - Tatamagouche

1 night at Train Station Inn

Drive along the Points East Coastal Drive South to Wood Islands ferry terminal, hopping on-board for the short but scenic journey to Caribou, Nova Scotia. (payable locally) Disembark and follow the Northumberland Shore heading west to Tatamagouche, a vibrant village with art galleries, museums, craft shops and restaurants galore. Admire the Victorian architecture as you stroll to Creamery Square, home to the heritage centre.

3 night’s at Lynwood Inn

Still on the Northumberland Shore heading east this morning, via New Glasgow, the largest town on the shore. Continue to Cape Breton via the Canso Causeway and onto Baddeck, your base for 3 nights. A scenic village overlooking the beautiful Bras d’Or Lakes, it’s most famous resident was Alexander Graham Bell with a National Historic Site named after him. Spend your first full day touring the western shore of Cape Breton Island perhaps, this time following the Ceilidh Trail. Highlights include the Provincial Parks at Long Point, Port Hood and Margaree Harbour. The following day, follow the famous Cabot Trail, one of the most spectacular drives in Canada, winding around the rocky splendour of Cape Breton’s northern shore and ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Don’t forget your walking boots as there are spectacular trails here, ranging from 20-minute walks to challenging hikes through mountain and coastal landscapes.

1 night at Louisbourg Harbour Inn

After so much scenic splendour, depart Baddeck for the trip to Louisbourg, via Glace Bay, home of the Miners Museum and Marconi National Historic Site. This is the beginning of the Marconi Trail, named after Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi, who sent the first transatlantic wireless message from here. You’ll follow this trail into Louisbourg, home to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest reconstruction of an 18th century French fortified town in North America.

1 night at Liscombe Lodge

Depart Louisbourg and drive back to the Canso Causeway and drive along Marine Drive, stopping at Guysborough, overlooking Chedabucto Bay and home to ‘Wilma the Beluga Whale’! Other picturesque villages en-route include Canso, once an important French fishing station and Goldboro, renowned for gold mining. Sherbrooke Village is also a must for a glimpse into village life in old Nova Scotia.

It’s time to head back to Halifax this morning as your tour comes to an end. A leisurely coastal drive, there’s time to stop and admire Musquodoboit Harbour & Valley, a haven for nature lovers and Martinique Beach, the longest in the province. Back to the airport for your journey home.
