In Cairns and Northern Queensland:
The biggest and most famous attraction of tropical Queensland is, of course, the awesome Great Barrier Reef. But the area has lots of other fabulous attractions too, including the oldest rainforests on earth.
In a nutshell
Access the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns, Palm Cove, Port Douglas and the fabulous Whitsundays. If delving into the deep blue is not for you, there are semi-submersible craft and glass-bottom boats. Just make sure you see it - it's unmissable!
Tropical Cairns is much more than a base for reef excursions. Walk the famous esplanade, shop in the fantastic new Pier Marketplace or relax in the wonderful resort hotels.
Just north of Cairns is Palm Cove, a quiet resort with a stunning, palm-fringed, white sand beach. Further along is Port Douglas, which exudes old world tropical charms and a collection of wonderful, lush resorts.
Inland from Port Douglas and Cairns is the Daintree Rainforest. Explore the treetop canopy walks, cascading waterfalls and wildlife by 4WD excursions and guided walks with experts.
