Mombasa excursions

Departs daily approx 6.00am North Coast, 7.00am South Coast.

You will be guided along the coral reefs at Kisite Marine Park, home to dolphins, turtles, sting rays, moray eels and a bewildering variety of sea life and dramatic coral formations. A delicious seafood lunch is served in a private garden on Wasini Island, (a Robinson Crusoe hideaway). On the way home, visit the caves in Shimoni, once used to hold slaves before shipment to Zanzibar and Arabia.

Departs daily approx 4.30pm South Coast, 6.00pm North Coast

You will be picked up from your hotel late afternoon and transferred to the private jetty of Tamarind Restaurant where you will board a traditional Arab sailing dhow. As the dhow slips gently away from the jetty, the resident band starts to play. Savour the delights of the Tamarind chefs with their famous Seafood Swahili gently cooked in coconut milk and spices, or choose a tender fillet steak or grilled local lobster. Return to the jetty at around 10.30pm where transport to your hotel awaits.

Departs approx 2.30pm South Coast, 1.30pm North Coast

Shimba Hills National Reserve is a pristine wonderland of rainforest, harbouring a wide variety of wildlife. The most distinctive of the reserve's many species is perhaps the rare and impressive sable antelope, found in the same habitats as large herds of buffalo and elephants.

A short 1-hour drive from Mombasa takes you to the cool, refreshing forest of Shimba Hills. This afternoon's game drive takes you on a search for elephant, giraffe, buffalo and the rare roan antelope. Overnight at Shimba Hills Lodge - a cleverly constructed tree like lodge that blends perfectly into the rainforest.

Enjoy a morning game drive before breakfast. Return to Mombasa around 12 noon.

Take a break from lazing in the African sun to go on safari in the bush! This fantastic 2-night adventure incorporates fantastic game viewing, nature walks with local guides and exciting night drives. You also stay in tented accommodation in the heart of the bush, complete with campfire around which to swap tales of what you've seen and what you hope to see!

Morning collection from your hotel and drive to Ziwani Tented Camp, close to the border with Tanzania and on the edge of Tsavo West National Park. After lunch, spend the afternoon your way, enjoying a guided nature walk perhaps, or simply relaxing with a drink whilst watching the hippos at play in the river that fronts the camp. In the evening, the pace picks up with a night safari in search of bush babies, genet cats, porcupine and grazing hippo. You may even spot some elusive big cats, so keep your eyes peeled! After all this excitement, head back to camp for a relaxing dinner under the stars. Each tent has its own private bathroom facilities with shower. (L/D)

There's another chance to see yet more wildlife on an early morning game drive in the sanctuary. Afterwards, enjoy a hearty breakfast before returning to Mombasa, arriving early afternoon. (B)

A 3-night safari from Mombasa visiting some of Kenya's best-known game parks.
