Cape Town excursions

Full day. Departs Mon-Sat at 8.30am
First stop is the Taal Monument near Paarl with great views of the surrounding area. Then continue on to the wineries of well-known estates for wine tasting. Next stop is Franschloek and the Huguenot Memorial Museum. On to Stellenbosch for lunch in one of the many restaurants (not included), followed by a cellar tour and wine tasting at another wine estate. The group will have the option of a final wine tasting before returning to Cape Town.

Full day. Departs Tue at 9.00am (seasonal tour Aug-Nov only)
Possibly the best place in the world to spot whales from the shore. Enjoy a scenic coastal drive, with breathtaking views of course, on the look out for the southern right whales at play. After lunch (not included), pass through Elgin in the Cape's apple-growing region, the road then snakes over Sir Lowry's Pass, providing great views of the Cape Peninsula.

Full day. Departs daily at 8.30am
First you tour the Malay Quarter with its pastel houses, then it's on to the District Six area and its excellent museum. Visit the townships of Langa and Guguletu and learn about their history. You visit local places of interest including the Tsoga Environmental Resource Centre. Then it's back to the V&A Waterfront for lunch (not included), before embarking on a 3-hour cruise and tour of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held captive.

Half day. Departs Mon-Sat at 8.30am
A great way to see everything this vibrant city has to offer including the Houses of Parliament, The Castle - South Africa's oldest building and the District Six Museum which documents the apartheid era. Visit the flea markets of Greenmarket Square in the heart of the city centre, then take a cable car up Table Mountain (not included in price, weather permitting). The tour ends at the V&A Waterfront - a shopper's paradise!

Departs Tue, Thu and Sun at 5.30pm and 6.30pm (Oct-Mar only)
Head out of the city before sunset. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine as you watch the sun go down from one of Cape Town's beautiful beaches. Look for the Southern Cross in the night sky before you enjoy dinner at a fabulous 'out of town' restaurant, offering seafood and South African specialities. See the city lights by night as you return to your hotel.

Less than 2-hours' drive from Cape Town is The Aquila Private Game Reserve, home to 4 of the 'Big Five' and named after the rare and endangered black eagle that thrives in the area. Proclaimed a private nature reserve in 1985, this 4,500-hectare malaria-free reserve is steeped in Khoi San and Boer War history, and boasts 3 pristine biomes of vegetation set in the most magnificent Karoo Mountains, valleys, rivers and kloofs.

Drive past the pristine beaches of Camps Bay, Clifton and Llandudno to Hout Bay (optional Seal Island cruise, time permitting - not included). The breathtaking Chapman's Peak Drive is next. After lunch (not included), it's on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and its scenic viewing point. Continue along the coastline to the beautiful Boulders Beach and visit its colony of penguins before a stop at the navel port of Simon's Town.
