The TourThe Tour

A fantastic 10-night holiday visiting the very best that Southern Africa has to offer, including Sun City, Victoria Falls and Cape Town. Staying in luxury accommodation, the Route of the African Sun provides just some Southern African highlights and many contrasts between the vast leisure resort-style complex of Sun City, which provides myriad activities, and the spectacle of wildlife and natural wonder in Livingstone's Victoria Falls.

Day 1: London - Johannesburg
Depart London Heathrow on Virgin Atlantic's overnight flight to Johannesburg.

Day 2: Johannesburg - Sun City
On arrival, you are met and transferred on the shuttle to Sun City and The Cascades Hotel for a 3-night stay. Alternatively, you may wish to upgrade your Sun City experience and stay at the awesome Palace of the Lost City. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this amazing resort.

Days 3-4: Sun City
With so much to do, you may wish to extend your stay here to take advantage of the many facilities. We do recommend avoiding weekend stays at Sun City as the resort gets extremely busy with locals coming to the resort to gamble. Sun City is a unique resort set in the heart of the African wilderness, offering a world of tropical fun and year-round sunshine. The Lost City boasts the Valley of the Waves, a fantastic attraction with amazing water slides and man-made surfing waves. The lake area, Waterworld, offers water sports and boat rides, tennis and cycling trails. Golfers have the choice of 2 world-class courses. The Entertainment Centre is home to the casino and games arcade. At Kamp Kwena - for children 3-12 years - there's all kinds of supervised fun. Just 15 min from Sun City is the nation's third largest national park, Pilanesberg, which offers viewing of the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) plus many more species. You can arrange a day excursion from Sun City including elephant-back safaris. (B)

Day 5: Sun City - Victoria Falls
Transfer to Johannesburg airport for a flight to Livingstone in Zambia and transfer to the Zambezi Sun hotel, perched on the edge of these awe-inspiring falls, for a 3-night stay. Alternatively, upgrade your stay to the exquisite Royal Livingstone where guests can enjoy the sight of the rising plumes of mist from the swimming pool and many of the external public areas. (B)

Days 6-7: Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a breathtaking abyss where the mighty Zambezi River tumbles over 100m to form the largest falling curtain of water in the world. In the season of peak flow, the mist and roar are perceptible from up to 25 miles away. The ultimate way to see the falls is the famous Flight of Angels. Guided walks through the rainforest let you witness the tumultuous waters from a variety of perspectives. Upstream from the falls, you can enjoy sundowner cruises on the Zambezi River, watching the local wildlife whilst sipping a glass of wine. Sun International's resort is perfectly placed to explore the falls, both set overlooking the great Zambezi and a short walk from the entrance to the national park. (B)

Day 8: Victoria Falls - Cape Town
Transfer to Livingstone airport for a flight to Cape Town via Johannesburg and transfer to the 5-star deluxe Table Bay at the Waterfront for a 4-night stay. For a view of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, with the backdrop of Table Mountain, and the working and leisure harbours - there's no better location than Sun International's Table Bay hotel, perched overlooking the Indian Ocean. (B)

Days 9-11: Cape Town
With its stunning location between the south Atlantic and Table Mountain, Cape Town is undeniably one of the world's most beautiful cities. The best way to begin your adventures is by taking the cable car up the mountain, from where you'll be able to survey the city. Visit the beach at Camps Bay or explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town's rejuvenated docks, which is now a large complex of shopping, dining and entertainment. Cape Town has quickly evolved as Africa's answer to San Francisco, where visitors benefit from the wonderful café culture around Kloof Street, and the many boutique hotels, bars and restaurants of De Waterkant. Be sure to add more time in Cape Town than you think you'll need as there is simply so much to see and do. Take the ferry to Robben Island, home of the now defunct prison that housed Nelson Mandela. There's much more to do on the surrounding Cape Peninsula and the nearby Winelands. (B)

Day 12: Cape Town - London
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to London. (B)
