The SafariThe Safari

Staying in small private mobile camps is one of the best ways to experience everything Kenya has to offer. Sited in private conservancies, they are designed to include the widest diversity of wildlife and are conveniently located for easy access to Amboseli, Nakuru National Parks and the Masai Mara. Transport is by 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser and guides are members of the Kenya Professional Guides Association. Bring your own sleeping bags and towels, otherwise everything else is provided. Prepared by camp chefs, food is of a very high quality and very welcome after a busy day on safari!

Day 1: London - Nairobi
Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Nairobi with Virgin Atlantic.

Day 2: Selenkay Conservancy
You will be met and transferred to your safari vehicle for the drive from Nairobi to Selenkay Conservation Area. After setting up camp, enjoy a late lunch and an evening game drive to explore the area and its local inhabitants. Dinner is served beside the fireside, before a good night's sleep. Overnight: Campsite in Selenkay Conservancy. (L/D)

Day 3: Amboseli/Selenkay Conservancy
Up early for a hearty breakfast and an excursion into Amboseli National Park. Take a few shots of Kilimanjaro before some close-up observation of wild elephant and other species, including lion, gazelle, impala and wildebeest. Return to Selenkay for lunch, before joining Masai trackers for a fascinating walk in the bush. Dinner is followed by a night drive to seek out the nocturnal animals. Overnight: Campsite in Selenkay Conservancy. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Kigio Conservancy
Bid farewell to Selenkay today as you head back to Nairobi to the Kigio Conservancy, stopping en route for a picnic. After you've set up camp, why not get your bearings with an evening walk, working up an appetite for another delicious dinner prepared by your camp chefs? Overnight: Campsite in Kigio Conservancy. (B/L/D)

Day 5: Lake Nakuru/Kigio Conservancy
After breakfast, head for Lake Nakuru National Park for a great day's sightseeing. The lake is famous as the location for the greatest bird show on earth - myriad lesser flamingo, which sometimes number more than a million, gather on the shores, and are responsible for turning the waters pink! You've also got an excellent chance of sighting leopard, as well as many other animals - so cameras once again at the ready. Return to camp for dinner under the stars. Overnight: Campsite in Kigio Conservancy. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Siana Springs Conservancy
Pack up camp and drive to Siana Springs Group Ranch in the world-famous Masai Mara - your base for the next 2 nights. After lunch, it's an afternoon drive into the savannas to spot the 'Big Five' and numerous other species who call this stunning wilderness their home. After a busy day, return to camp for a leisurely dinner, swapping tales with your fellow adventurers! Overnight: Campsite in Siana Springs Conservancy. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Siana Springs Conservancy
Another action-packed day in the Mara after breakfast, with plenty more opportunity to admire its exotic inhabitants. Return to camp for a relaxing evening. Overnight: Campsite in Siana Springs Conservancy. (B/L/D)

Day 8: Nairobi
After a fantastic week, it's time to pack up for the return journey to Nairobi, taking with you a treasure trove of memories! Overnight: Jacaranda. (B)
