Description
The Safari
Take to the air on this safari, enjoying a bird's-eye view of Namibia's natural wonders! On the agenda is Fish River Canyon, the second largest in the world, Sossusvlei with its massive star-shaped sand dunes, and game viewing at Etosha National Park. A fantastic opportunity to really get to grips with this amazing country, it's an experience you and your family will never forget.
Day 1: London - Windhoek
Fly overnight from London Gatwick to Windhoek international airport with Air Namibia.
Day 2: Fish River Canyon
On arrival at Windhoek, transfer to Windhoek Eros airport and board your charter flight for the journey to Fish River Canyon. En route you pass some magnificent scenery, including the Hardap Dam, the Kalahari Desert, the extinct Brukkaros volcano and the vast intriguing plains of the south. Fish River Canyon is your final destination and, as the second largest canyon in the world, one of nature's most breathtaking sights. In fact, it's so vast, your eyes won't be able to take it all in at once! Overnight: Canon Lodge. (B/D)
Day 3: Sossusvlei
Today, there's another chance to get to grips with the canyon on a scenic flight that takes you over its steep and winding gorges. You'll also fly over the fascinating landscapes of the Pro-Namib to Sesriem, the gateway to the southern Namib Desert and its magnificent sand dunes. Overnight: Sossusvlei Lodge. (B/D)
Day 4: Swakopmund
Highly recommended today is the early morning optional excursion to Sossusvlei - a huge clay pan surrounded by some of the world's highest sand dunes, some 300ft tall! Sunrise is the best time to view them as the colours are more intense and constantly changing, allowing for some great photos. Afterwards, enjoy a low-level flight across the dune desert to Swakopmund airport where you will be transferred by road to your hotel. Overnight: Hansa Hotel. (B)
Day 5: Damaraland
This morning, swap the air for the sea with a marine cruise at Walvis Bay - Namibia's only deep-sea harbour. Keep your eyes peeled for bottlenose and heaviside dolphins, Cape fur seals and aquatic birds. Lunch on board is also one of the highlights, with Namibian oysters - some of the best in the world - canapés and chilled sparkling wine. After your cruise, return to the air for a trip north along the Skeleton Coast, home to the seal colony at Cape Cross, shipwrecks, the Messum Crater and the riverbeds of Namibia's ephemeral watercourse. Overnight: Twyfelfontein Country Lodge. (B/D)
Day 6: Twyfelfontein/Etosha
Twyfelfontain boasts one of the most extensive accumulations of prehistoric rock designs in Namibia - its slopes are quite literally strewn with thousands of paintings and ancient engravings. View them on an optional excursion, before taking to the air again for a journey across the northern interior of the country to a private luxury lodge bordering Etosha National Park. Overnight: Epacha Eagle Tented Lodge. (B/D)
Day 7: Etosha National Park
There's some great game viewing to be had today on an early morning and afternoon guided game drive into the Etosha National Park. The game and birds found here are typical of the savanna plains of southern Africa, but include several species endemic to the western side of the continent, adjacent to the Namib Desert. After a fantastic day, enjoy a delicious meal cooked for you by your camp chef around the fire. Overnight: Epacha Eagle Tented Lodge. (B/D)
Day 8: Windhoek - London
After a leisurely breakfast, board your aircraft for the flight back to Windhoek international airport and your return journey to London Gatwick with Air Namibia.
