Tour Information
Day 1: London – Nairobi
Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Nairobi with Virgin Atlantic.
Day 2: Nairobi
Met on arrival and transferred to Jacaranda Nairobi for an overnight stay. For 2012 there is a pre-bookable optional excursion of lunch at the ever popular Tamambo Restaurant followed by a visit to the Giraffe Centre home to the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Overnight: Jacaranda Hotel.
Days 3-4: Samburu National Reserve
Leave Nairobi for the 6-hour drive north of the equator to Samburu where you’ll stay for 2 nights. This lowland area is home to gerenuk, crocodile, hippo, lion, cheetah and ostrich as well as the reticulated giraffe, grevys zebra and Somali ostrich that can only be seen in Samburu. Enjoy your game drives, with the chance of spotting all kinds of wildlife among the woodlands, ravines and grasslands. Overnight: Samburu Simba Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Aberdares National Park
After breakfast, you will be driven (3 hours 30 min) to the Outspan Hotel (once home to Lord and Lady Baden-Powell) for lunch. Take an overnight bag for the night stay at Treetops. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight: Treetops. (B/L/D)
Day 6: Lake Nakuru
Set off this morning for the incredibly beautiful and striking Rift Valley, famous for its abundance of flamingo, pelicans and both black and white rhino. After lunch, you have an afternoon game drive to seek out those birds and other wildlife. You will probably see giraffe, buffalo and zebra but also look out for the illusive leopard hiding in the trees! Overnight: Lake Nakuru Lodge. The lodge has a pleasant pool and deck, so don't forget to pack your swimming suits if you want a dip before dinner. (B/L/D)
Days 7-8: Masai Mara
Today head for the Masai Mara (5 hours 30 min) for a 2-night stay at one of East Africa’s most famous game reserves. Why not pre-book a once-in-a-lifetime balloon excursion over the Masai Mara – prices from just £279 per person. Overnight: Mara Simba Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 9: Nairobi
Alas, your adventures are over and it is time to head back to Nairobi arriving around lunch time (4 hours 30 min). Subject to flight schedules, you may need to spend a night in Nairobi before flying onwards to your chosen destination. (B)
