Description
Day 1: Adelaide - Flinders Ranges
Depart Adelaide at 6.45am by 4WD vehicle and travel through the Clare Valley wine region, through historic towns with quaint cottages and old buildings. You will have an opportunity to visit a boutique winery in this region. Continue to Melrose, the oldest town in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Visit the historic railway junction at Quorn, home to the famous Pichi Richi steam train, and view the ruins of the 1860s township of Kanyaka, before arriving at Wilpena Pound Resort, located in the Flinders Ranges National Park. Take an optional scenic flight (extra cost) or a bush walk to Wilpena Pound. Overnight at Wilpena Pound Resort. (L)
Day 2: Flinders Ranges - Adelaide
After an early breakfast, visit the rugged Bunyeroo Valley and Brachina Gorge to the western side of the range. The scenery is unforgettable, with some of Australia's best known animals amongst the gum trees and on the steep, ragged slopes of the gorges. Morning tea is served at a waterhole in Brachina Gorge, where you can inspect the ancient 600 million-year-old fossils and view rock wallabies. Return to Adelaide via Pichi Richi Pass, the old Ghan Railway, and then along the coast road. Arrive back into Adelaide at approx 6.00pm. (B/L)
