The SafariThe Safari

Combine rest and relaxation at one of Zanzibar's top hotels with a stint on safari at Selous Game Reserve - the largest in Africa! Either side of your holiday you can lounge on the beach, indulge in plenty of water sports and even fit in some culture with a trip to nearby Stone Town, an ancient town unchanged by time. In between however, is the excitement of safari with game drives, river cruises and walking excursions, getting you as close to nature as it's possible to be!

Day 1: London - Zanzibar
Overnight flight with Kenya Airways from London Heathrow to Zanzibar via Nairobi.

Days 2-5: Zanzibar
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel and base for the next 3 nights. Located in the northwest of Zanzibar, overlooking what is probably the best beach on the island, this is a lovely hotel with a great range of amenities. Settle in before heading off to explore. The hotel boasts a large swimming pool, gym and water sports centre, where you can try your hand at windsurfing, diving and canoeing. At night, there are several restaurants and bars to choose from - The Cloves features a lavish buffet menu, or feast on fresh seafood in Red Snapper. As the hotel is set on the northwestern side, the sunsets are fantastic, so grab a cocktail from the bar and enjoy! Overnight: Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski. (B/D)

Day 5: Selous Safari Camp
After a relaxing few days, it's time to say a temporary farewell to Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski as you board your light aircraft for the short flight to Selous Safari Camp. Set in southwestern Tanzania, it is Africa's largest game reserve - 3 times larger than the Serengeti and twice the size of Belgium! Your camp consists of 9 comfortable and well-equipped tents on raised timber platforms, as well as a swimming pool. Settle in and enjoy dinner, listening to the sounds of the African bush that surrounds you. Overnight: Selous Safari Camp. (B/L/D)

Day 6: Selous Safari Camp
Up early for 1 of 2 game drives today with eyes at the ready to spot large herds of elephant, predators galore, the lesser kudu, wild dog, eland, roan antelope, sable antelope and many, many more. Also recommended is a river cruise, marvelling at the prolific bird life as you meander through the channels and lakes of the Rufiji River. Overnight: Selous Safari Camp. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Selous Safari Camp
As one of your game drives today, why not choose a boat safari or game walk - it's a great way to get close to nature as your guide points out the various flora and fauna and its teeming wildlife. Overnight: Selous Safari Camp. (B/L/D)

Days 8-12: Zanzibar
After so much excitement and adventure, head back to Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski for more rest and relaxation. Once you've gathered your energies, explore further afield. Catch a taxi to Stone Town, the cultural heart of Zanzibar, where little has changed for 2,000 years! Recently declared a World Heritage Site, it's a fascinating place to wander at leisure, discovering winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab buildings. Overnight: Zamani Zanzibar Kempinski. (B/D)

Day 12: Zanzibar - London
Return to the airport today for your flight home to London Heathrow with Kenya Airways via Nairobi.
