The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

Just wanted to share my awesome experience at Fairmont Royal York! From the moment I arrived and did the check-in, the recepcionist, Temo, was super friendly and helpful with my issues with the internet connection. The room was cozy, and everything was spot-on. Big shoutout to Temo for making my stay extra smooth!

The Hotel is in a great location. The food is very good as is the service in The Reign bar if you can get in. Some in our group were given a lesser room than we booked, we had to complain. Some of us were upgraded, some of our group got a refund and some got nothing. Surely if the Hotel has double booked our luxury king rooms we should be put in better rooms not tired small queen rooms! The bathrooms are tiny, like little cupboards even the suites and deluxe rooms. Don’t stay in the East wing, it’s very tired. You cannot get into the bars easily. They are full most of the time. Hotel guests are not given priority. The hotel is too dark especially around reception when you need to look at documents. Not much lighting in the rooms either. Deposits are taken off cards and not refunded for over 10 days on international cards. We had issues with our bill. Payments were taken out twice. Also we were not happy to see an extra charge was put on the room one night because the hotel was over 90% capacity! Apparently it’s in the terms and conditions!! We wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Read less

The experience was fully ruined by my gym clothes going missing from a room that cost me over CAD$350 per night. This is one of the most reputed hotels in Toronto. The assistance after that was also sub-par and as such I would not recommend this hotel to anyone in my circle.

The service I experienced while making and managing my group's reservations at the hotel was truly exceptional. Janice, the group reservations coordinator, truly went above and beyond in every aspect. I'm immensely grateful for her assistance and will select this property for all my future coporate travels.

BED BUGS! Hotel is showing its age! My wife and I were there this weekend, both of us are covered in bed bugs!! You would think at $250 per night you would be pretty safe, but no! Check your sheets and bed before getting comfortable! The hotel is showing its age, really rough trim work and elevators not always working. There isn't even a fridge… Read more
