TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We went to the Melia on March break with another family, both of us had kids. I was disappointed in the hotel itself, it was under renovation (although the workers never got in the way), the staff... Read more you can tell they were not happy, maybe morale issues. They were pleasant and nice. The power went out almost everyday which wasn't an issue except one day where we has no hot water. The restaurants (Cilantro, Aqua and Nikkei) were good but the buffet, not so much. It felt like the same food everyday. I didn't like that we had to wait in line to be seated at the buffet....really? We've never had that....ever....maybe they were short staffed. Not much in terms of entertainment at night. The Starbucks in the hotel, well come on, $3.95 for an apple! $5.95 for a muffin! Are you kidding me! I didn't buy anything to eat as we were all inclusive but come on....that is just not right. This was our first time to bahamas and for what we paid for each of us, very disappointing....the beds were so uncomfortable, never sufficient towels in our room even though we left a nice tip and a note for the housekeeping, we feel we were ripped off and taken advantage of, sorry but never returning to Melia. A friend and I spent the week of March 8th at Melia in Nassau. We had a fabulous week! I was impressed with the mix of guests staying here. Older, younger, vacationers, business people, North... Read more Americans, Europeans etc. So nice to be able to connect with a variety of people. This includes the resort staff who always had a hello and a smile for you. The beach is lovely with gorgeous white sand. The water a beautiful blue/green. It was a treat to lounge by the ocean each day, enjoying the heat of the sun and the soft breeze that came off the water. Finding lounge chairs was never a problem. But, a strong suggestion to get your towel early in the day. To eliminate having to go back into the resort, there is an outdoor bar just steps from the beach. As well, an outdoor grill resto where you can have your lunch each day. The buffet is what you would normally expect. Food is good and plentiful, there are some local dishes, but most will find something that will satisfy. There are four specialty restos. Three are part of the all inclusive package. The fourth, a steak house is not. Standouts are Nikkei the Asian resto. Try to get a reservation at the Tapenaki table. Great show and fabulous food! And splurge on yourself and go to Black Angus the steak house. Very posh with excellent food. Best grilled sea bass ever! Special thanks to Robert who took very good care of us that evening. One suggestion would be to make reservations at the specialty restos as soon as you arrive - they book up very quickly. If you are not able to get a reservation with the staff in the lobby, go directly to the resto and try. If you are looking to eat off of the resort, I highly recommend going to the fish fry....delicious. There is no disco, however, there is a tapas lounge on the lobby level. It has a large outdoor patio as well as lots of seating inside. There is one large bar, and then one smaller one that services the whole lounge area. After 9pm or so, guests stay in order to have a cocktail and socialize. A few nights there is a DJ. The evenings we spent at the resort, we had a great time! If this isn't enough for you, downtown Nassau is a short cab ride away with several bars where you can get more nightlife. The staff work hard at making sure you have a good stay. Yes, there are times you may be waiting. But, you should be on vacation mode! Their efforts and dedication more than make up for the few moments where things may be going slower than you are accustomed. Special thanks to Gino Vanelli (no, not the singer and not his real name, lol) who is a fabulous bartender and made us feel comfortable from the moment we met. Also a big thank you to Giorgio who helped us through a small medical issue. He took our situation very seriously and made sure we were taken care of. Grazie Giorgio! Overall, I recommend this resort. It is a bit older. But, the rooms are very clean!! The property is beautiful. And if you have a chance to get an ocean view room, do it. It is the best feeling in the world to wake up to that beautiful view each morning. Relax, enjoy the views, smile at everyone and let the Bahamas seduce you! Read less
At the beginning our first opinion from the photos before go there we thought that it was quite old hotel but when we arrived there completely change our mind!i thing it is the best hotel at that... Read more area ,and for sure it is on the best side of the beach,it is really amazing, very clean hotel, nice view from the room and you won't feel bored!they have every day happenings at the hotel for free and (important for women's is that they have yoga and carribean dance at the sea)if you don't have all inclusive package the food is expensive inside to hotel but about 10 minutes from the hotel it is area with beautiful local restaurants and food with really low prices ,clean, and amazing taste.for sure you have to organized little trips to explore the island, you can do it from the hotel..visit also the Atlantis hotel at the paradise island it's stunning! We were disappointed with the building not being more updated through the hall ways, bathrooms out by main pool were clogged or broken every day and the main pools filter was broken which meant lots... Read more of gross stuff floating around in it the full 6 days we were there. The life guards would skim the pool, but it was not enough to keep it clean looking. Our power went out in our bathroom and after 24 hours of being out they moved us to another room - a hassle. The beach is great and the level was awesome and the restaurants were all great. Read less
