Just came back from our 6 days vacation at Melia. Tip NUMBER ONE: Get All Inclusive. Not much places to eat around the area, and the food at the hotel is very expensive. 1. Check in / check out... Read more process was seamless 2. Food is GREAT. Market Place is the place to go. We made reservations for Mexican place - nothing special. DON'T listen to negative reviews about the food - All American breakfast (eggs, bacon, fried potatos) always available. Good selection of food, for every taste. 3. Drinks at the bar, beach are amazing. Bottled water is available in the rooms, beach bar, lobby bar. 4. Sevice is good. There were couple of hiccups, but hey, no one is perfect 5. Beach is awasome, clean. Though I would add an option to rent umbrellas. Not much shades at the beach 6.Rooms are tired, but clean. Room cleaning services a bit slow. Couple of times they forgot to put towels. Other than that - no complaints. 7. Grounds nice and clean. And they would remain clean if we pick up trash after ourselves. Some people played volleyball on the beach, and left tons of garbage. So, hotel cleanliness depends on you too. Grounds require some face lifting, but again, nice and clean. 8. Be nice to the hotel staff. Smile. Do not command like they owe you. Trust me, they will smile back and provide outstanding service. 9. Do not listen to reviews that spread rumors about hotel being a dormitory for construction workers. Hotel next to Melia (former Windham) - IS THE DORMITORY for workers. Baha Mar is due to open soon, and Melia will be part of it, it is written all over guestbooks. Not sure where people getting info and writing misleading reviews. You could see hardhats on the grounds, but just because Melia undergoing renovation. And the great thing about it - it is seamless. 10. Casino is closed. For us not a big deal. However, I agree that hotel could add some night entertainments. 11. Lobby is a masterpiece. Good place to grab a drink and have some tapas. Overall: I am giving solid OK to this hotel. I believe after the renovation, it will earn 4 stars. Read less
