TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
The hotel was clean and well kept. The room was large and was very clean. The food was good - better than our expectations. This was our first experience of all inclusive and maybe it's just not for... Read more us! We managed to eat in the a la carte restaurants for 7 out of our10 nights there. These were all ok. The hill top and the Japanese were our favourites. Our main complaint was that the 24 hour bar - the rock house was nowhere near big enough or had enough staff to cope with the number of visitors. A big challenge was getting a drink in the plaza at night. We waited 35 minutes one night before a waiter even approached our table! This wasn't helped by waiters stood around watching the nights entertainment. When we tried to get a drink from the bar ourselves, we were offered plastic cups and later told off by the waiter - not so customer friendly! The said waiter did come over to apologise and make amends later. Note to management - you need to double your staff levels - waiters in the plaza and bar staff in the two bars expected to serve all visitors at night. The entertainment at night was all of a high standard. The ladies in the pool bar were very good - always walking round checking whether drinks were required. Overall an ok hotel, but management need to be making improvements to the service levels. Read less
My Wife and I returned December 7,2013 from the Paradisius Princesa Del Mar for our honeymoon and had a great time as did six of our friends. The hotel itself is very clean and well managed. There... Read more were no problems with any staff and almost all were very accommodating. As for the food it exceeded all of our expectations. The ala-carte restarants were mostly fantastic quality and service, and the buffet had more than enough variety and flavor. Even the juices were fresh squeezed in front of us. We found the bars to have a great variety and a premium selection of liquors. Although there did not appear to be a lot of activities during the day that suited us fine. In the evening the shows were of good to very good quality and entertaining. I have been on over 40 warm destination vacations and we would definately recommend this property as one of my favorites and we hope to return again soon. Read less
After having returned from a week at the Paradisus Princesa Del Mar after a week, I found myself wanting to post almost immediately to Trip Advisor. I had read many (over 30) of these reviews prior... Read more to booking and arriving, and I will say that while many were helpful, there are some pieces of information I would have liked to have known before booking. This review is broken down into different sections, in which you will find the strengths and weaknesses of each area area. HOTEL & ROOMS The hotel itself is beautiful, and the grounds are really taken care of. You will see workers doing their jobs, with smiles, all day long. From a cleanliness point of view, this resort is fantastic. We got to experience two different categories of rooms during our stay: The traditional junior suite, and the royal service junior suites. I had read different reviews about the rooms and different levels of satisfaction. Here’s my perspective. JUNIOR SUITE: The standard junior suite was, in my opinion, more of a “vacation” room. There’s something about going to the Caribbean, which in my mind, means a certain beachy-old wood-warm colors. The beds have a white canopy over them, which I thought was romantic. The bathroom, while not modern, was still functional and had enough space. I would have been very happy to have stayed in this category of room… BUT… the hotel was having some issues with water heat and air conditioning. As a seasoned traveler, I know that when it comes to Cuba, you have to be a little flexible. However after the 3rd night of no A/C or hot water, enough was enough. Now while I am not one for making big fits, it’s simply what has to be done, to make the “rounds” of managers until it finally gets dealt with. We finally met with the hotel’s general manager, who dealt with changing our rooms personally. Now what we were surprised to see is just how many people (not just in our group) were doing the “room dance” so to speak, of being changed rooms in rotation. I am not sure if this is a low season practice or what, but I was finally happy to have a hot bath and AC. When we got to royal service, which is a hotel within the hotel, the room was gorgeous (very modern, I’d compare it to a Hilton back in Canada) and we were introduced to our butler. We took advantage of having the butler take care of what we wanted in our mini-bar (replenished as often as we wanted, and we through a great party in our suite as well) and the bathtub with jets were a nice way to unwind. They bring you your drinks to your chair in Royal service, and you have nicer towels and cushions for the chairs. There are also special restaurants and other perks… the only thing is that we were the youngest people there by probably at least a decade. When it’s already an 18+ hotel, I’d personally say that unless you’re on your honeymoon or don’t want to meet anyone on your trip, then the Royal Service is an upgrade that isn’t for everyone. In fact, there were many people in Royal Service who went to the “regular” pool just to have some life, meet some friends, and party it up (Yes, we did manage to have fun!) As for restaurants, we got to try all of them all, except for the buffet which was closed while we were there. I’ll give an overall score of how I thought the food was (which FYI- the food was good and we didn’t get sick at all.) French: 3/5 Italian: 4/5 Japanese 1/5 (Much overrated, and it ALL tasted the same, and prepare to sweat by the grill!) Thai/Oriental 5/5 (One of the best meals of the week) Hillside (3/5) Miramar (4/5) Overall, A-La-Carte was good and the choices were impressive. NOTABLE EMPLOYEES Lobby bar: Over the week, the two staff members who really stood out, giving us great service each and every day were YENI and ORESTES, They were JAIMA and YULISMA at the piano bar (and the elegant piano player) got to know my partner and I quite well and they knew exactly what we’d like to order, and were always full of enthusiasm . I had stayed at another resort for six days near Havana before coming here. I arrived very early in the morning (felt like I escaped my other resort under the cloak of darkness) and was very... Read more impressed to receive a glass of cold champagne. They didn't have my reservation but it wasn't their fault...it was the company that had taken the reservation (a cuban based tourism company). They failed to inform the resort that we were coming! So we had to wait until the tourism company opened in order to get a room. But the resort kept the champagne flowing and I was a happy camper. And they were really nice. We managed to book golf for my husband while we waited and so he was a happy camper too. The manager was really nice and set us up in a beautiful room (not oceanview). Because I booked only one night last minute (at $700US), I thought I'd have the best room in the house, but apparently they were booked so I got a room with a balcony facing nothing with a balcony hot tub that didn't work. BUT the manager sent us a bottle of champagne to make up for it. And I thought that was really nice. All the staff were great. The food was really good. The facilities were all really clean. My "VIP" room was supposed to include a special VIP beach with its own service. But that beach was closed and empty so I'm not sure whether they even have that anymore. And boy...it was a hike to the beach from my room...but I don't mind the exercise. The bbq food at the beach and the bar were really good and really friendly. I was surprised by the number of people complaining about everything. I thought we were being treated really well. Overall I would go back, but I'd need to be in a better room with an oceanview. Other than that...everything was really nice...including the entertainment. And my husband could golf every day with their unlimited golf deal...which is amazing! Honestly...if there's a problem...they will fix it. They're great here. Looking forward to going back...hopefully this Christmas!! Read less
