TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We just returned from a 7 night stay at Bahama Bay. We loved every minute. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. It felt like home. It was so nice having a pool right next to our building (#3... Read more ) and it was nicely heated even though the weather was "cool" according to Florida standards. The main pool was crowded so we stuck with our own. The kids loved the spray park too. The only concern is that there is no elevator. It wasn't a problem for us but, if it will be for you, be sure to ask for the first floor. We've stayed at another resort in Davenport and it cannot hold a candle to Bahama Bay. We will definitely be back soon. Read less
We stayed for two weeks in block number 2. With 3 pre school age children, I was wondering if a condo would be enough space, as we usually go for a villa in Florida. Was very pleasantly surprised... Read more with the size of the 3 bed. Nice touch having a mini welcome kit with dishwasher tablet etc, just the essentials for first day. The ceilings were really high and the whole space felt airy. We had two balconies overlooking the pool, on the top floor. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. We asked to be on the top floor, so that we didn't have anyone walking above us and we didn't hear anyone through our whole stay! Only small criticism was that sofa was very old and tatty/ripped. I got housekeeping to bring us some blankets to put over the top. The resort has lovely pools and tubs, they were heated and the kids loved them too. The splash pad was another hit, although really freezing water. I used the nature trails for running, really pleasant and nothing motivates you like two little alligators in the lake you're running past! We didn't eat onsite, found the bar service really slow during the day, plus $11 for 3 soft drinks was steep, but then there is such a choice of places locally that this didn't matter in the slightest. Overall I'd recommend this resort and we will be back. Read less
We booked 16 nights here in a more expensive 'deluxe/superior' apartment for 5 of us. A week prior to our stay we had emailed requesting an upper floor, recently renovated apartment given the length... Read more of our holiday. We arrived late on a Friday night and were allocated ground floor apartment 604, block 17. The place was musty/damp smelling, dark, dated and depressing. There were cobwebs on the ceiling fans (clearly visible) and there was no outlook whatsoever. We contacted front desk and pointed out we were unhappy and had emailed prior to our arrival re wanting an upper floor. No comment was made re receiving our email and we were told they were fully booked but we could move after 3 nights! In the interim we were advised to email the manager, Edward Rios which we did and to this date have had no response from him. 3 days later we moved to a top floor apartment in block 31 which was infinitely better but they wanted to charge us an additional $10 US per night which we refused. Day 11 our dryer broke and was reported, it remained broken even after we checked out 5 days later despite us querying daily when it would be fixed and no one contacting us. In the interim we were given keys to neighbouring apartments (it varied daily) to use their dryers. On one occasion we accessed the neighbours apartment only to find it was occupied! On our last night pre check out there were no free apartments so housekeeping took our wet washing to dry. It was returned damp, at 11.00 p.m and we were checking out the next morning at 8.00 a.m. As others have said and we also found, the walls are paper thin so you can literally hear the guy drop the soap in the shower through the wall. We were woken one night at 3.30 a.m by our partying neighbours dropping shots and falling off the furniture. Internet is patchy and comes and goes. We saw about 6 apartments when switching and all are dated, brown shag pile carpet, dated decor, plastic plants etc. Appliances are ageing and both our apartments had blown lightbulbs, marks on the wall etc. The 1980's vertical slat blinds on the sliding doors are the worst! Rip them out quick and it would instantly look better! The place will need a revamp very soon and it could be great. Location is good, pools are lovely (could be a little warmer). Something to be aware of and we had never experienced were all the balconies are meshed/screened in totally, right around. I guess to prevent bugs (didn't see any). This obstructs what would be a lovely view over the lake and grounds. Most of the apartments we saw are dark and not positioned well for sun/light. Staff appear young, inexperienced and indifferent. Also be aware we were charged $6 US per day 'activity fee' and $80 US cleaning fee (one off). While we knew of this in advance it irks us as have never encountered this type of charging before and we have stayed in many similar places ie timeshare/self catering. Just include the costs in the nightly rate! We used no 'activities' except the pool. We had a package mailed while staying there and despite asking several days in a row if it had arrived, eventually it was located and written in reception's log book as being received 3 days prior to us asking. It was correctly addresses with name and apartment. If left as is, in a year or so it will start losing business and fast. We would not stay again. Read less
