TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
A small island where there isn't much to do except have a thoroughly peaceful, relaxing time. The 80 or so rooms, mostly water-bungalows, are very well appointed with big beds, modern fixtures and... Read more fittings, TV, WiFi, etc. The room rating and sleep quality has been listed as very good rather than excellent because the raised peak roof on the bungalows is made of a tent type material that makes an incredible noise if it rains during the night (which it did three days running). As one person remarked "it was like trying to sleep inside a snare drum". This an all-inclusive resort. The restaurant serves up buffet style food which could feel a bit "samey" if you fail to look closely. In fact, the menu constantly changes and serious efforts are made to cater for all tastes. The all-inclusive drinks list is comprehensive and charges for anything extra to the list are reasonable. Clientele are mainly a mixture of Chinese, Japanese, and Europeans with many honeymoon couples. The dive centre is very well run and boat trips for fishing, snorkelling, visits to other islands are available daily. Make use of these or just relax and do as little as you want to. Mention must be made of the staff, all of whom are superb and within a couple of days, seem like long-term friends. They seem to be very relaxed but everything works so well that you can't fail to be impressed. It would be unfair to mention any individual because they all do a superb job. The relaxed efficiency of this place is best described by example. On our first day the electricity to our bungalow tripped out. It was reset but tripped again. Following dinner we found that it had been reset but the hot water was switched off as the tank was leaking onto the electric heater, causing the supply to trip. We were on a small island 100 miles from the capital, Male, and I was concerned that we would be without hot water for a long time. No problem though; the whole system was replaced with a new tank, heater, etc the next morning while we were having breakfast. Very impressive! Swimming could be a problem for those who are really keen as the lagoon is only about 1 metre deep and there is no swimming pool. Serious swimmers need to take advantage of the short boat ride to the nearby reef for some great snorkelling. Read less
What a Fabulous trip we had. Second time back Hakuraa and this time we brought our friends with us. They were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and wow all the staff pulled out all the stops... Read more to make their celebration so special. We had a wonderful holiday and all the staff were smiley, friendly and very very helpful. We'll be back for another visit as soon as we've saved some more pennies! Read less
My second trip to the Maldives and yet again I was stunned, it's the only place I've been to that looks like the brochures. The hotel is amazing the staff even better. Raj and his team greeted us... Read more on arrival, we were made to feel special. The water bungalow was clean, comfortable and welcoming. At this point have to mention are room boy, who kept us stocked of our requirements, after we asked him. The beds were great, one little draw back there is not a great deal of space for clothes, one of our cases was never unpacked, however how much clothes do you need. The food was typical buffet type restaurants and it was very good. I'm a bit fussy and I didn't go without, however I'm sure that if I would have asked the chefs for something different, then it would have been no problem. As we did not have a rep, we were left to the hotel for our amusements, which they did very well. On the menu were water orientated delights, we went on the "Snorkel Safari" and our host Achmed was excellent, we wanted to see a turtle and he made it his mission! We also visited the local reef where Ateef and the boat crew showed us all the delights. As a qualified diver I made use of Dive and Sail, the diving was great! Some tips 1. Men you don't need to dress up for diner, so just pack shorts! 2. Sea Plane - after 10 hours of flying to wait at the sea plane terminal was not pleasant. Also most people got stung with extra fees due to having excess baggage - worth checking out with your tour operators. Lastly if asked if you baggage can be sent on the next plane, make sure you take enough to get bye as our luggage turned up 5 hours later! 3. Divers - Toothpaste, showergel, etc is hard to come by in this area and I sure Sylvia, Sebastian, Bijorn and Jacqui would be appreciative if you packed some extra for them (or leave what you don't use)! In conclusion go and enjoy! Read less
We have just returned from our second visit to this piece of paradise and it was just as good, even better than the first time. As I am now a qualified scuba diver and the diving facilities are... Read more excellent thanks to the dive and sail team. Sylvia, Sebastian, Bjorn, Achmed, and Jackie were great and their knowledge of the reefs was amazing. And the boat crew Sattaru, Azim, and Bute for not getting lost. I did ten dives while I was there and saw Manta rays, Eagle Rays, Sting Rays, Grey Reef Sharks, White Tip Sharks, Turtles, Moray Eels, and all the usual reef fish. A truly memorable experience. We would like to thank all the staff especially the behind the scenes staff you don't see that make everything run smoothly. But would like to give Mahid, our waiter who had our drinks ready when we entered the restaurant and was there when needed but never obtrusive, Paul who made the salads to perfection, Nalaka who made the best omelettes ever, and last but not least Arif who was responsible for looking after our villa it was always cleaned and beds made daily a big thanks. We used the spa once and would have used it more if it was not so expensive. Another big thanks to Raj and your team for making a memorable holiday. I have only given sleep quality four marks as the rooms were very noisy when it rained. Read less
