TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We have just spent 10 wonderful, relaxing days at the Coin de Mire Attitude hotel in the north of Mauritius. The hotel is very welcoming and the staff are excellent - tending to your every need. We... Read more had upgraded to All Inclusive with a Deluxe room - number 527 on the first floor which had a sea view, albeit through the trees. The room was very clean, as was the hotel, with all the essentials, fridge, safe, hair dryer, shower, etc. and a daily maid service. Numerous staff tended to the pool and garden areas on a daily basis. The food was very good with a buffet breakfast - eggs to order, cereal, etc. Lunch was a la carte and your choice of meal freshly cooked. Dinner was a buffet with a different theme each evening. There was plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Through the internet, we hired a car from Maki Car Rentals International who arranged with their local company in Mauritius. The car was delivered to our hotel on the specified day and time and collected without any hassle. A special mention to Kubeer for my daily flower and keeping the car windscreen clean, Seben for seeing us safely across the road to the beach, Baden and his colleagues for looking after our bar needs, Richard for the entertainment, all the waiters/waitresses in the restaurant and Ashley for looking after us on our arrival, during our stay and on our departure. We had a lovely time and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Mauritius. We hope to return to Coin de Mire in the future. Read less
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at coin de more. I have been to Mauritius on numerous occasions but never stayed in this hotel. It exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was always fresh and... Read more refreshed through the morning. The staff we really friendly and helpful when I was poorly on one night they offered to make me some dinner and bring it to my room. The dinner was amazing there was always so much variety. We thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait to come back in November! Read less
My Mum and I traveled together to this hotel and It was absolutely lovely!! When we arrived we were greeted with a fruity drink and a refreshing hot towel- very welcome after a long flight, and... Read more were delighted to be shown to an upgraded room 508. The rooms were a good size and had a lovely outdoor seating area to top your tan up if you didn't want to be around the pool. The staff were always ready to help with anything and always had a genuine smile- unlike some places I've been to and it seemed forced. The staff are brilliant- I am a bit of a fussy eater and a vegetarian as well so we advised them in advanced, and every Dinner for the themed buffets I was shown what I can eat and if there was nothing suitable they would make something special for me! Christina and Manjoo were excellent for this. The beach close by is lovely- yes it is over the road, but there is always a guard close by to escort you over the road, and between the road and the hotel are the local taxi drivers. They are great. The hotel staff advise that you use the taxis outside and have the tariffs printed in the seating area and throughout our stay we had 1 driver look after us. Anywhere we wanted to go he would take us and not want paying until the return- which is something i'm not used to in the UK! I would recommend this hotel to everybody- families, couples and friends but if you do have any special requirements let them know in advance- whist we were staying there, their was a family who were deaf and the staff were signing to them and making sure they were involved in any activities, which i thought was lovely. My daughter and I stayed at the Coin de Mire from 1st to 10th July and on arrival were warmly welcomed with a fruit juice and a hot towel . We were delighted to find that Ashley had upgraded us to a... Read more deluxe room on the ground floor - number 508. The room was well appointed with a powerful shower, a decent hairdrier, electronic safe, sofa, tv, air con plus fan and a small garden area immediately outside with a sun lounger and a chair. We were quite close to the road, but this did not bother us and the room was very quiet. We were on an all inclusive basis and thoroughly enjoyed the meals - I was a little concerned before arriving at the hotel, as my daughter is vegetarian and some of the previous entries have mentioned lack of choice at mealtimes. I need not have worried as the hotel were aware of my daughters requirements and actually cooked special meals for her if there was nothing she liked on the buffet! A staff member showed my daughter the buffet each evening pointing out what was vegetarian and all staff seemed very eager to ensure that all guests had plenty to eat.One of the lovely staff members, Christina, is also a vegetarian and she supervised the cooking of a special Mauritian vegetarian meal on our last night! Special thanks also to Deepshika and Manjoo who were lovely. The breakfasts were lovely and there was a large choice ranging from: yoghurts, fruit compote, fresh tropical fruit, pancakes, waffles ( with a variety of toppings- chocolate, coconut, fruit, sugar etc) beautiful selection of bread, danish pastries, eggs to order, usually there were grilled tomatoes, bacon or sausages, cold meats and cheese, cereals, local jams etc I am sure I must have missed some items too! Lunch was a la carte with a free choice from an extensive menu! we loved the local samoosas and the sesame chicken with the sweet chilli dips! There was a great selection of salads ranging from grilled vegetable, Thai beef, garden, green etc and the portions were huge- one salad between two would have been ample! There was also a great selection of pizzas with a variety of toppings and again these were huge ! You could have croque monsieur, croque madame, selection of sandwiches, various fishy things ( I didnt pay too much notice as I dont eat fish) , various pastas, steak and chips, typical Mauritian specialities etc and there were only a few items that required a small supplement i.e lobster or other seafood. The desserts were lovely too, ice cream, creme brulee, grilled pineapple with coconut ice cream, chocolate mousse ( i think?) and many others. The restaurant staff interracted with the guests and there was a real warmth amongst the staff who seemed to be genuine friends which led to a lovely atmosphere. The evening meals were buffet and these were always themed, which were changing as we left, but the buffets were themed: south east asian, authentic Mauritian, mediterranean, fish, italian plus many others. Soup was always available as well as the lovely moreish bread, usually one or two grilled items, starter selection and a lovely pudding selection. The bar staff were great fun, particularly Baden who had a great sense of humour- but all of the other bar staff were fantastic too so it is difficult to just single out one person! ( Unfortunately I cannot remember all of their names!!) There was quite an extensive cocktail menu included in the all inclusive package and the hotel " brewed" their own flavours of local rum. All of the staff spoke excellent English and French and they quickly built a rapport with each of the guests. We spent some time talking to the sports/activities organiser Richard, who was very informative, and regularly hosted cooking demonstrations, sega lessons, creole lessons and some sporting activities. Richard could also be found "signing" to a family that had hearing problems, and it was so nice to see them able to join in activities thanks to Richards intervention. Ravi the hotel manager was always around talking to guests and asking how they were enjoying their holidays. He was very approachable and I am sure if there had been a problem, it would have been sorted immediately. We also enjoyed a lovely 50 minute relaxing massage in the spa, many thanks to Sweetie for relaxing me so much that I fell asleep during the massage!! The beach is across the road from the hotel, but this really was not a problem as a security guard would always ensure you crossed safely. The beach was of fine sand and was quite narrow, but was weed free. The only slight downside is the number of small boats a short distance from the shore mean that you couldnt really swim, but there are numerous "proper" swimming beaches nearby, so this was not a problem. The hotel provided sunbeds for the guests and there was never any problem in obtaining one. You could also get beach towels from the hotel reception to save taking your own from home. We didnt use the local bus, but there were bus stops just a few yards from the hotel entrance. We used the taxis recommended by the hotel ( yes they probably were more expensive but they were very convenient), and the rates were displayed in the hotel foyer. Grand Baie is probably 5 mins by Taxi and a return trip costs around £8 ( I think) and a return trip to Port Louis 30-45 mins away was around £24. The taxi drivers were very polite, drove well and would usually ask to be paid on the return to the hotel- very trusting!! I would not hesitate to return to the Coin De Mire. It was a lovely, well run hotel with fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. It is a 3 star hotel ( should be higher) in a great location, ideal if you want to tour the island. We found the food to be of a good quality with a wide choice. If you have dietary needs or are a fussy eater, please out of courtesy, contact Ravi before you travel so arrangements can be made. The hotel staff genuinely want you to have a great holiday! If anyone wants to ask me anything, please feel free!! Read less
