Read more only hear just the sea and the birds. The bedroom was very large I could see the sea from my window although it was not a sea front bedroom (307), it was very clean with every thing inside. My suggestion is to keep air conditioning always on due the fact being in a part of the hotel hot e without windows in the corridor you could have some ants. Sea front bedrooms are windy and don't have problems of little ants but it can be solved with the air conditioning on. the garden is fantastic, the employees are very kind and smiley. The staff on the beach amazing (volley beach with an international team was fantastic), in the evening the music was always very pleasant and the disco night too. The restaurant serve local cuisine but also pasta and pizza. I ate mostly grilled fish in such a place (sea paradise) why not? Choose the all-inclusive if possible. Read less

Read more Just got back from a 2 week honeymoon at La Palmeraie Hotel, Belle Mare (all inclusive package). Totally relaxed and refreshed. Pro's: We stayed in a groundfloor beach facing room...stunning and the beach is basically on your doorstep. Could do with a bathtub though. Some advice: the room does not have a showercap/earbuds etc. so take your own. As we had taken a short flight from South Africa we did not receive toiletry bags on the flight and no complimentary toothpaste was provided in the room. There are also no shops on the road outside the hotel so we had to fork out R40 for toothpaste at the hotel shop, which we later saw at the Spar in the next town for a third of the price! Beautiful white sandy beaches, warm water which remains shallow for quite a distance into the water...makes for awesome swimming. Sand gets quite coarse at the shore closer to the water with broken pieces of shell and coral so we often wore aqua shoes. During the first few days the water was crystal clear however due to the intermittent rain, LOTS of seaweed washed up onto the shore and even quite far into the water. That can't be avoided though...such is nature. We then swam in the pool which may not be huge or very deep but deep and big enough to have a relaxing dip (water is warm!). Buffet breakfasts were excellent. Small variations in the menu day to day...excellent chocolate pastries and pancakes, yummy oats. Lunch at the poolside is from the menu...lots of choices:pizza/pasta/noodles/sandwiches. Most that we tried were good. Had the prawns at lunch one day (with quite a significant supplement to pay) which tasted really fishy and was undercooked. Had to send it back twice to be cooked but by that stage it was rubbery and hard. Themed buffet dinner, theme changes daily (Moroccan, Mediterranean, Asian etc.) or alternatively you can book at the restaurant in the private dining room (supplementary charges apply on most menus if you're on the all inclusive package). I didn't always enjoy the main meals at the buffet but always found something else I liked (salads, soups and dessert were excellent). Some were outright winners like the grilled Dorado with caper sauce. Had one seafood dinner at the restaurant which was delish. Although other reviewers have commented that the food is spicy I would like to wholeheartedly DISAGREE. I found myself adding chili on the side to almost every meal. The wait staff and chefs at breakfast, lunch and dinner are all excellent. To name a few: Frankie, Krishen, Shiva, Kemraj, Michael, Rajiv, Kunal, Keshav, Kiran, Maylene and Ravina. Dirty plates are taken away promptly, drinks orders brought swiftly and just a general attitude of helpful and cheerfulness. Top class! The all inclusive option is fair and totally worth it. There are a wide variety of alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks, water, tea, coffee available. There were only a few things that we had to pay for (eg. the DIVINE ginger/cardomom creme brulee at lunch). The cleaning staff dressed our bed daily with flowers from the garden and were super helpful to get us anything we needed. CONS: We paid for a honeymoon package via AGODA which included a few daily extras and even though my husband confirmed this telephonically before departure, no one knew about it when we checked in. So we expected some "special treatment" on arrival but this was an anticlimax. This was rectified on the following day by Jason (who was awesome and very helpful) but as the days wore on it was sort of forgotten. For example we were supposed to have a spicy cooking lesson on one day and a "surprise gift" on departure. These were not followed up on and we decided against repeatedly asking for things and making nuisances of ourselves. On departure my husband asked about the gift...the lady at the front desk spoke to Jason telephonically and we eventually got gifts from the shop in a plastic bag. Location: The hotel is VERY far away from everything. The road outside the hotel is just a row of hotels, no shops or anything. The result of this is that the taxi's make a fortune from you and know you have no other way of getting around. In hindsight I would have enquired about the cost of hiring a car from the airport for the duration of the holiday instead. The airport is at least an hours drive and cost us Rs. 1500 one way. It is cheaper to bargain with the taxi drivers outside the hotel directly instead of through the hotel but you don't save much. And it is just too hot to walk anywhere (we tried walking to Belle Mare but this was a bad idea). A trip to the North (where Grand Bay, Port Louis etc. is) was going to cost us Rs. 2400. There are also no buses that come to the road where the hotel is. It is VERY VERY hot and sometimes you need to escape to your room and the airconditioning. However the airconditioner was very temperamental. It worked well in the first week but afterward had to be switched on and off several times before it felt cool again. Even at 16 degrees celsius, the room was not really cool. The only free wifi is at the pool. If you use the internet available in the rooms it is chargeable. I suppose we could overlook this as we were on honeymoon and theoretically "off the grid". I had read on a few blogs before we left to Mauritius that you should always bargain when buying something there. But we didn't find this to be true?! No one even at the Flacq market wanted to bargain. In Belle Mare, things are expensive (souvenirs, clothes etc.) and the marked price is what you were expected to pay. I suppose the shops are targeted more at European tourists who have the exchange rate far more in their favour. What we found as well is that when enquiring about the price of something we were told one price, then when we agreed and money was taken out, another higher price was demanded! Had a 30 minute back massage at the hotel spa as part of the honeymoon package. It was ok. The spa is otherwise overpriced. Came across a spa in Belle Mare expecting it to be cheaper but was surprised to find the prices were exactly the same! All in all I would say this is a wonderful hotel. I would come back for the impressive staff, excellent food and beaches. But this hotel would be best if you were planning to spend the entire duration of your trip at the hotel since it is so far from everything. The all inclusive option would also be best due to the fact that there is nowhere else really to eat dinner. There are lots of activities at the hotel which kept us occupied though...glass bottom boat, snorkelling, paddle boats and an amazing array of tidal pools teeming with life. Thanks for a great honeymoon! Read less

ROOMS:room is really pleasent, always clean. No complaint at all. Perfect. FOOD:food is spicy but they will not add pepper or other condiments if you ask them. Had a bad experience with fish but overall breakfast and the dinner buffet were excellent. The food is healthy cooked and not greasy at all. Lunch is also ok as the plates are served in small.portions. With a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius you would more likely drink than eat. BEACH:the.nicest beach of all hotels even the expensive ones. A paradise. LOCATION: airport is 40min away by car.belle mare is at 2,8km from the hotel. You can do it by foot but only in the morning, otherwise the sun is too hot. The hotel is far from the capital,Port Louis, from the south and north. Take a 10min walk outside the hotel to the right and you will be able to book the taxi for half the price. If you reach Flic Flac, thecatamaran tour is also for half the price as the one suggested by the hotel. Staff: really politeand always at your service. In absolute terms we are looking at 4 large stars. The hotel is smaller than the others and it makes for a great cosy atmosphere. We really liked staying here and will highly recommend it. Also... Read more compared to the more luxurious neighbours. The rooms are excellent. The deluxe seafront is worth the extra money since you get a balcony facing the ocean. The rooms 225+ (and 115+ we would guess) are in the quiet part of the hotel. Food is a mixed experience. Most of it is good, but there were repeatedly bad experiences as well. Breakfast was very good. We were at B&B so we ate at the two hotels close by as well and in the end we preferred Palmeraie. They are mostly into seafood, and do offer at least one chicken/meat option every night. Price is 35 EUR for buffet or 3 course meal. Compared to absolute quality the price is in the high end, however the prices at the hotels near by are in the same range. Even all inclusive guest shall be prepared for supplementary cost even for simple requests (maybe this is normal - we would not know). Service at the restaurant varies, however mostly very attentive. One annoying note: Water is 2,5 EUR a bottle at the hotel. It is 0,5 EUR in town (or just around the corner). We accept a hotel will mark up prices. Fair enough. But 5x on water! It does not add up to a big check during a stay, but it is unnecessary annoying. The service in the reception is nice. A minor mix up with a taxi price the only hick up. Order taxi directly. Daily price should be 40-50 eur. Management all over the hotel were very attentive and seems to be interested in constructive feedback. Beach guys are very service minded. There is different water gear to play with. Some of it needs a bit of maintenance, however it seems in safe condition to use. Others reviews wrote about seaweed. There is a lot of it in the water so it seems difficult to avoid some of it at the beach. They do clean every morning. We had a bad experience with the dive center DiveSail that the hotel works with. For more refer to the review below. We like to stress that this experience had nothing to do with Palmaraie. If diving we would suggest the divecenter Liquid Dreams Diving next door at hotel Crystal (south from Palmerai). Our experience with them was better. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g298342-d2691085-r183116401-DiveSail_Diving_Pty_Ltd-Belle_Mare.html#REVIEWS To end on a positive note: We will return to Palmaraie if we are going here again.
