TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We stayed at this hotel for 14 days 14th Nov thru 28th and overall had a great time, we are reasonably well travelled and this our second visit to Mauritius , interesting to see the road... Read more improvements & the incredible amount of construction since our last visit in 1998 Our holiday was arranged through Travel-bag, travelling with Air Mauritius Business class as this was for my special birthday- coming of age !! ( 65 ), slick arrivals at the airport , was on our way by private transfer within 30 mins from landing, only downside is that we met a major traffic hold-up in Port Louis , however for those visiting after next spring a new by-pass should solve this daily problem with traffic going in/out of Port Louis Upon arrival at about 1:30pm we where greeted by Richa ( Concierge) & her team who checked us in very speedily and explained the hotel info also handed us a book with info regarding the hotel and its restaurant, she also escorted us to our room- which was on the same level as reception ( 358) boy what service Generally, the food in all the restaurants was very good, we were All Inclusive, but having seen earlier comments regarding the Gourmet passes, we paid for them upon arrival & immediately made the 3 bookings ( one at Mon Desire [ for my birthday ] & two at La Maree ( both for the Tuesday steak nights), really glad we did as when we saw the menu & wine list pricing , it would have been quite a shock- pays to read Trip Advisor as always. Only negative was the failure in the reservation process ( as I’d noted from earlier entries), sadly upon arrival at the designated time at La Maree we were advised that no such booking had been made – I was mad , as I had sat with the Concierge as she made the booking, clearly the paper operated system is not foolproof, anyway after a short debate a table was found & I must say the meal was absolutely fantastic, service was also exceptional, Our second booking or the next steak night was a similar screw up, having been advised that we could not get a table until 8:30, we duly arrived just before that & noted they had us booked for 8PM- there systems needs some work as this really lets them down. The one night at Mon Desire was exceptional, there were two other couples celebrating their birthdays at that time, each of our tables were decorated both splendidly & very different, the food & service was just as you would expect, we were very glad of the shuttle transport back to reception as its quite a walk & the many glasses of wine had taken there toll! Our room was both clean, tidy & well appointed, the bathroom with its twin washbasins, separate bath & shower were also top notch , the air-con was both effective & very quiet, in fact we cannot recall any noise from neighbours or from the nightly entertainment. The Quarter Deck bar was far one of the best at a beach resort we have had the pleasure to use, plenty of comfortable seats, fairly subdued lighting , good service although at times some of the drinks were simply not up to par ( particularly Bloody Mary’s & Black Russians) but a quiet request for a replacement is immediately responded to. Beach Beds, Towel service ( never had a problem with requesting multiple towels) & the service by Dave & Jay on the beach was again exceptional, one of the best we have encountered. Tried Para Sailing as a birthday treat , really enjoyed it, also went Horse racing at Post Louis through Jacques Ritter’s organisation ( lost money of course !), also upon another guests suggestion went to Casela for the “Walking with Lions” experience, expensive but wow what an experience & the DVD which you can buy of your experience was very good. Overall a great hotel, exceptional staff, good food , comfortable rooms, beds & top notch beach ( you need jellies as the coral will cut your feet if not very careful) & if only I could play golf , I would have loved to spend several mornings on their 9 hole course. Better half also wants to go back for her birthday- must have been good. Read less
We had recently a short stay there for only couple of days as we are mauritian residents. Perhaps it may be due to the fact it was on a promotional tariff for local residents, we did not expect it to... Read more be like that as compared to previous local 5 star hotels as it missed many little details to make it a perfect 5 star one. Lets start:- Cons:- 1. Welcome to hotel was nice though we did not receive a warm greeting perhaps the guy saw that it was his compatriote arriving with his wife and child. 2. The introductory to the hotel was a fast track one as if learnt by heart and missing some emotions in it. 3. The cocktail received was not famous on the day we arrived. Some red juice with a lemon in it offered in a glass. And on the day we left, we saw cocktail was offered in a pineapple decorated style. Ah ok for foreigners this should be different, got it! 4. Check in was done but with an error on system stating that I have to pay full amount when half has already been done. No excuse from the lady apart from talking to her colleague that system has not been updated. Oh ok if I was a foreigner, perhaps a little excuse would have been said. 5. Room is a big CON as we were given only a 100ft2 area. Bathroom so small and the outlet in the baignoire was broken to make things worse! 6. We did not ask to change room as we were already tired after a nearly 2hr drive from home. 7. Room service is not done often. It was done only at night and late afternoon. I would have expect for a 5 star to do it also in the morning after coming back from lunch. 8. Buffet was good with a sea food menu but not a single lemon to add in our plate to accompany the seafoods. People serving the hot menus were extremely friendly and unfortunately additional staff should be present at dinner time. 9. We were given a table for six persons when we were only three ppl and the rest of the cuttlery, glasses were left on the table. Again due to limited staff 10. Another big CON is that you have limited sun beds near the pool and had no place to sit. 11. Ongoing construction work in the SPA prevented us to enjoy the sauna there. 12. Had the overall impression that staff tends to pay particular attention to other residents than local ones - and this is bad bad bad! 13. Food variety at buffet is extremely poor with lack of creativity. Not enough variety and interesting menus. Dessert was extremely deceiving!! Again am comparing with it with other local 5 star hotel where my family and I had gone. 14. I wonder based on all these pertinent details mentionned above how was the award received?!! 15. The last angry point before I stop (else I can continue till tomorrow morning) - I have asked a guy at the front door of the hotel if he kindly take one photo using my camera. He replied to wait for 2mins and he make him wait for about 5-10mins. We then ask another staff to do it for us! To cut the story short, I think perhaps it is in their policy to consider only foreign clients nicely! A 4-star hotel in our opinion! Pros.: 1. I have appreciate the help and support of Vikash who assisted us when my daughter was not feeling well. Unfortunately at the hotel had drugs only for adults but not for children. 2. Bed was perfect. Landscape is gorgeous with lots of green spaces. 3. I have loved the grilled chicken and prawns. 4. Nice KOI pond with waterfall but making some noise at dinner time. Read less
We stayed at this hotel for 14 days wef 06/11/13 and overall had a wonderful time, we are well travelled and this being our first time to Mauritius were looking forward to exploring the island and... Read more sights. We travelled from Glasgow via Dubai and onto Mauritius with Emirates - flight was long however glad of the break when we reached Dubai with a 3 hour window to stretch your legs and grab a coffee before the next exciting leg. We prefer to do it this was as we stop over for a couple of days on the return in Dubai. Upon arrival we where greeted by Brian who checked us in very speedily and explained the hotel info also handed us a book with info re hotel and restaurant, to be honest we where both glad of this as your that shattered I don't think we took any info in. We also met our rep which was Pascal - Hayes and Jarvis who we booked with outsource their reps to a tours company which seemed to work really well, Pascal was very patient and helpful throughout our stay. Pros - rooms very clean and big we upgraded to a prestige room and would defo recommend. - excellent friendly staff - has to be a 1st with impeccable customer service skills. - restaurants & food excellent with lots of choice and variety at belle vie (standard daily restaurant) - we took advantage of the gourmet pass and had a meal in la mare beach for steak night & banyan (Asian) x 2 which was just fabulous would definitely recommend. - quarterdeck bar was nice to relax and what the sunset with a beer / glass of vino / coffee. - pool and infinity just fab and sun beds plentiful if you are ready to get some rays from 8 am onwards. - beach clean and sun beds plentiful (coral beach - please note wear your aqua shores). - lots & lots of sporting activities readily available if you want them. Cons - gourmet pass - book as soon as you arrive we tried the day after landing to book a restaurant for the Friday ( our 11th wedding anniversary) to no avail they where booked fully 5 days in advance - this was very disappointing. - entertainment was really low and repetitive if your there 14 days plus. - appears to be lots of rules albeit very minor of re what type of drinks you can have and where depending on times (hot or cold). Trips (be aware traffic jams via port Louis) - We hired a driver and vehicle thanks to Pascal via Summertime Tours - visiting the north of the island and the hotel provided us a packed lunch for the day. - our driver Kevin stopped at the side of the road and purchased lychees fruit as we had never tasted it - wonderful and in season. - defo visit Port Louis worth a visit sightseeing and shopping - at the fort try / purchase the vanilla rum - it's super. - Grande Baie - apart from visiting the church and seeing the fabulous scenario we personally wouldn't bother - like Blackpool with sunshine. - visit to conservation trust & Coco island which was lovely, we also had some fabulous food on this island, breath taking views however was a little disappointed with snorkelling as the coral was all dead. On the whole a lovely restful relaxing very hot 2 weeks in beautiful Mauritius. Special thanks to all the great staff in particular the pool / beach guys who tend to your every need without being asked, Brian on the reception and guest service team. My lovely lady in quarter deck bar - Brinda who new coffee time daily for myself and hubby - really lovely lady with excellent customer service. Not forgetting our room man who kept the room spotless. Vitesh and his great personality & customer service, the banter re footy - thanks for making our stay special. Read less
My husband and I stayed here 6th-17th May 2013. We decided to go at end of the season to save some money fully aware that the weather might not be as good - weather was AMAZING, very hot, cloudless... Read more skies, although for the last 1 or 2 days the weather did tail off as the season changed, but after 8 days of intense heat it was a bit of a relief. We had a wonderful clean spacious room. EVERY SINGLE member of staff was polite, hospitable and smily. The staff make this hotel what it is. When the management spotted us they always knew exactly who we were and always used our names - which considering the numbers of guests and turn over is very impressive. The food was very good. Having stayed in larger all inclusive resorts before, I personally prefer the smaller choice available, as I find I am not wondering around for 10 minutes. I would suggest that there be a winder selection of colder options on the lunch time menu, as quite often i just wanted a really good salad for my lunch. We ate in all the restaurants and enjoyed each expereince, and enjoyed drinking brandy and playing cards at the bars in the evening. The menus clearly show which items are included in the all inclusive package, including the mini bar in our room and we were impressed by the variety available to us. The mini bar was filled up twice a day and is a lovely touch. It was the perfect holiday for relaxing. oh and the spa, I loved the spa and wished I could have had more visits, we bought some insence sticks and burn them occasionally to take us back to the Maratim and the wonderful holiday we had. We flew manchester to paris with air france, which was fine. Then flew Paris to Mauritius with Air Mauritius. We chose these flights to save money. We would pay the extra to fly with another company if we visit again as the air mauritius flight was not great. my husband and I are both small in height and even we struggled with leg room and the width of the seats. The Maratim is a wonderful place to visit to share a special trip with someone and we would love to return one day. Read less
