TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
Sugar Beach is a beautiful colonial style hotel, with a stunning location and a long white sandy beach, palm fringed and lovingly tended. It's staff are perhaps it's greatest asset and this together... Read more with a wide variety of restaurants, activities and facilities provides the guest with a myriad of rich experiences. It styles itself as a family hotel but as we went as a couple, deliberately during term time, there were more couples and adults which was what we wanted and expected. Nevertheless there were a fair number of preschool children.......and sadly this is where the hotel perhaps fails a little. We would suggest that couples should also be accorded some special consideration which if provided would NOT detract from the hotel's family orientation. For example, why not designate the 'Quiet' swimming pool an 'Adults Only' facility? It only takes one screaming and whinging child(as we found out) to shatter the peace that we - and other- adults were craving! There is another much larger family pool for children. The fine dining restaurant ( Tides) provides a romantic and soothing venue for dinner. The quality of the food and service are as good as any of London's better eateries...... That is until the peace is shattered by under fives who proceed to turn the place into a kindergarten! Last night we suffered this invasion and it was 9.30pm when all good under 5's should have been safely tucked up in bed. Management should insist that families eat earlier at these venues and children under, say 14 years, should vacate the restaurant by 9pm. We know that many parents out there will protest at this alleged discrimination but readers there are some parents who totally lack any consideration for other diners and holiday makers and regrettably management has to legislate for the few parents who are inconsiderate rather than the many who are good. Additionally the hotel provides a comprehensive range of child care and babysitting services which clearly the parents of these dreadful children ignored, preferring instead to foist their badly behaved kids on the rest of us whilst they carried on unperturbed by the mayhem wrecked on us by their kids, We would love to return but unlikely to do so until these strictures were put into place by the hotel and that they were strictly policed. Perhaps following this review the management might like to respond? If it did so positively we would very definitely return. It's a beautiful venue and so why not turn a lovely holiday into a perfect one for ALL your guests? Read less
