WEATHER HERE

Surrounded by 30-acres of magnificent tropical park, Sugar Beach offers accommodation in the Manor House and in Villas – all stylishly furnished and very comfortable indeed. Built in the style of a historic sugar plantation , it is a world-class resort full of Creole charm. Facilities are shared with nearby sister resort, La Pirogue and include a wealth of water sports with scuba-diving and giant catamaran expeditions on west coast and the surroundings! There are also land sports galore and a kids' club offering daily fun programmes including tennis, windsurfing and swimming clinics. Teens needn’t feel left out either with activities organised just for them such as football, scuba-diving and dolphin spotting excursions! At night, there are several restaurants to choose from, each serving gourmet cuisine in a gorgeous, relaxed setting.

Where is it?

On the west coast of Mauritius, overlooking a glorious stretch of beach and 35km from the capital city of Port Louis. Transfer time from airport: 1 hour.

We have come back to the Sugar Beach Resort almost every year since 1997, and the time has come to write a few lines about this fantastic hotel. Its biggest asset are its wonderful staff. Always... Read more friendly, helpful and smiling, paying attention to details, but not over the top as in some over-sophisticated establishments where one cannot even go wash one's hands without being escorted. The location is wonderful, on a long stretch of sandy beach, with beautiful sunsets. The family units where we have been staying with our children are spacious and clean and have great seaviews. Our children started coming with us when they were toddlers; today they are almost adults and still love the hotel, partially thanks to a teenager programme called "Sun Generation". Plenty of sports, some free, some at an extra charge, great spa area. The compound is so large that the hotel never feels crowded, even when it is fully booked out (as during our last visits). Highly recommended, we are already planning our 15th stay. Read less

We had an amazing two weeks at Sugar Beach in October. The grounds of this hotel are kept beautifully and lead straight on to a lovely beach. The hotel certainly lived up to expectations, we stayed in... Read more a standard room with the all inclusive package. We have had a few holidays in the past on all inclusive including in the Caribbean and the Maldives, but this was by far the best we have had. Breakfast is buffet style with plenty to choose from. A tip if you are a tea drinker - ask for English Breakfast tea as you are seated, you will get your own pot of tea which contains at least two cups and tastes much better than the standard tea. At busy times it can also be difficult to get a top up so better to have your own pot. Lunch is taken at either Tides or Citronellas, both have extensive lunch menus but we used Tides more as we felt there was more selection and it was a shorter walk from our room! Dinner can be eaten at either of the lunch time restaurants but you need to book in advance. The buffet is also available, again there is plenty of choice (sometimes too much!) with not much repetition over the fortnight. Some nights it seemed really busy in there but others you were wondering where everyone was. The drinks on all inclusive were pretty good. Cocktails were a bit inconsistent but there was a good choice of wine which could be ordered by the bottle, there was even sparkling wine included. We took a liking to the local Phoenix apple cider, there was a choice of either alcoholic or non alcoholic. There was a recent review which said that the standard rooms were dire. Nonsense! We preferred a balcony to a ground level room so standard room it was. We sent an email two weeks before we arrived to request a room by the quiet pool and that was where we were allocated. The room was spacious as was the bathroom though this was a bit dated, the bed linen/towels etc were good quality and everything was kept spotless. Yes, the furniture had a used feel to it ie not brand new but certainly not needing replacement. I've done dire and this wasn't it. As we had a late departure we were given the use of a courtesy room which was in the Manor House on the ground floor and we weren't too keen on this location. Nothing wrong with the room though. We booked a day trip on the Madiana catamaran at the hotel and would recommend it highly. You are picked up at the hotel, have a full day on the boat with all food and drink (BBQ lunch was excellent) then get taken back. Great day. We also hired a car for a couple of days so ordered packed lunches to take with us. Far too much food in these, could have fed four not two. Also be aware that there is no drink included at all. Lastly, I must mention the staff. They made the holiday for us. We have never experienced the like anywhere in the world. Many of them have worked at the hotel for years. They were a delight. The celebration of Diwali occurred whilst we were there and three different members of staff brought us boxes of cakes/sweets from home. Totally unexpected. We did see some guests being quite rude to staff at times which was sad to see, maybe these are the people who complain about staff attitude? Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. If you are considering it book it now. Read less

My wife and I visited Sugar Beach for our Honeymoon and enjoyed the great location with sunny weather and great beach and pool. We found however that the service was very frustrating, our general... Read more feeling was that we felt like an inconvenience to the staff. The boys who help with the water sports seemed more concerned with sitting around and doing nothing than helping anyone, no one was helpful on one occasion we were told to book tours with the beach tower and then at the beach tower sent back to guest relations. With food service it was very inconsistent, its was a running joke amongst ourselves that we would need to order coffee twice to get it. Why are they so anal about the towels? You have to give them a card in exchange for a towel at the pool or beach we'd stayed at 3 resorts during our honeymoon and not had to do that before. On good side they did provide us with some great honeymoon gifts and occasionally there would be a helpful staff member who would do a great job. Read less
