My wife and I have visited Mauritius 4 times now and I have to say that The Sugar Beach and its location are as close to Paradise as you can get. The management led by Andrew Slome OBE and his team... Read more including Viren Chetty set very high standards of personal service and is achieved through their very nice staff in all sections of the Hotel. It is truly a 5 star hotel/resort and one that we didn't want to leave. The choices of food is vast, with the options of eating in any of the restauarants in both hotels. Also I would like to thank Vickram Nadan for his help with my wife during our stay as she was wheelchair bound due to a forthcoming Hip operation. I would add that access around the hotel is good, with the exception of the staircase down from reception, however the staff again will help with a ride in a buggy. Well done Andrew and all, we shall be returning at some point in the future and I will email you as and when Read less
We have just returned from our 12 night honeymoon at Sugar Beach and it was without doubt the best holiday either of us have ever been on. The resort is absolutely beautiful and as we walked into... Read more reception we both had that 'wow' factor. But the hotel's best strength is it's staff - from the moment we arrived we were looked after so well. Our room was not quite ready but they prioritised us as we were travelling with our 8 month old baby and we were in within about 20 minutes, just as we finished our welcome drink and had freshened up. Every member of staff has a smile for you and says hello, and most of the waiters and waitresses knew our names and room number without having to ask for it. I must given a special mention to Vikram who served us in the main restaurant each morning, who always had my husband's coffee and my English Breakfast tea ready within minutes, along with copies of the British newsletter and plastic spoons for our baby. We really noticed when it was his day off as although the service was still excellent, he paid special attention to the needs of each couple / family when he was on duty. You would see the general manager, Andrew pretty much every day walking around the resort and talking to guests to make sure they were enjoying their stay and to help with anything, which was comforting and a great personal touch. New arrivals also receive an invite to join him and the management team for cocktails on the lawn, which was lovely and a nice way to meet other guests. Honeymooners also are invited to a special dinner at Tides which was very special - our table was on the beach with a bonfire in the background, beautiful. As I mentioned, we travelled with our baby and I have never left him with a babysitter before, but after a few stressful evenings of trying to get through dinner without him screaming I reluctantly agreed to use the onsite babysitters from Kids Club. I needn't have worried - Imelda was amazing and so were Rosabelle and Shirley who looked after him for a few hours a couple of days. They are very professional and genuinely love babies and children. A few people have commented that they feel the rooms need updating, but I think the decor actually fits very well with the plantation / colonial theme of the resort and our room was always cleaned to an immaculate standard - and the beds are big and comfy! We stayed in a superior room in the quiet end of the resort by the smaller pool, which was great for us. Everything else at the resort was excellent, there are free non-motor water sports for guests and free glass bottom boat trips around the lagoon - but be warned, unfortunately the coral is dead so there's not a lot to see, but it's still a nice trip. The food in all three restaurants is fantastic and there is so much choice you won't know where to start. The only thing I would like to see is baby changing facilities - there are no designated changing rooms (as we found was mainly the case in Mauritius) but for a family friendly hotel this would be very helpful. Once I was allowed to change our baby in the reception ladies toilet but another time I was taken to an empty guest room to change him, which seemed a bit silly. Also it is worth noting there is a curved staircase that leads down from the reception area to the resort, with no lift, so it is not ideal for buggies / wheelchairs, although you can walk around the side of the hotel past the staff's quarters, which is a bit of a pain - a lift would be much better. On the whole we loved Sugar Beach and would definitely recommend it to couples and families alike. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Read less
