TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We would need a very good reason to want to stay anywhere else. Rooms were lovely, clean and well serviced each day. We bought the bed & breakfast option and will miss our crepes and freshly baked... Read more pastries for breakfast, along with all the fruit and egg options. Fabulous breakfasts. The buffet dinners are themed and $Aud80 pp. We found the Indian night to be food that was 'toned down' in flavor. The Mauritian night on the other hand was exceptional with food that any one from our Mauritian family of foodies would have loved - along with the Sega dancing. There's plenty to do or not do - evening and day activities, water sports and day trips. Customer service was excellent everywhere. Check out at midday was perfect for us, although we've taken our time to leave and say goodbye to people we've met. The only suggestion I would make is that having to book evening meals two days ahead for the a'la carte restaurant and for the glass bottom boat means a bit too much organising ahead for our preference on a holiday. Weddings galore to watch. Read less
We visited Sugar Beach for the second time in October for 10 nights. The hotel is just as great as it was the first time, in 2013. There was an unfortunate mix up with our room, which could have... Read more been fixed on the evening we arrived but the lady on guest relations that night wasn't very interested. The problem was eventually sorted by the amazing Mathieu - he was brilliant and we cannot thank him enough. The standard rooms overlooking the quiet pool are perfectly located if you don't want to be near the bars or the kids pool ( there was a wedding on the beach one night but the music finished early). Our top tips would be to book the restaurants either before you arrive or the minute you do. There is a problem where they allocate a certain amount to La Pirogue and there are very few spaces available, we tried to book and the earliest day we could get was about five days later. We recommend the excursions. The day long catamaran trip was amazing, as was swimming with the wild dolphins ( that was a once in a lifetime experience). Again, a top tip is to book these as soon as you arrive, make sure you book them with Yannick and only Yannick. We nearly missed out on the dolphin experience because of the other person taking bookings in the towel cabana. The hotel has a boat that can take you snorkelling twice a day for free. We saw the most amazing sea life. We would also totally recommend Casela World of Adventures. We did the Lion interaction and the Quad bike safari. We arrived not long after the park opened , even though we weren't due to see the Lions until 11am and we were so glad we did - we got cuddle tiger cubs that were only around until 12 and we would have missed them. Plus the big cats area was very busy later in the morning and afternoon, by arriving early we didn't have to queue. The photos that you can buy are worth it. They aren't over priced and you have great souvenirs. Back to the hotel - the food is delicious and worth going all inclusive for. We went half board on our first visit and spent a fortune. Citronella's is a good little Italian, Tides in the evening is more 'fusion' and a little bit fancy. The buffet is so good that you might not want to visit the restaurants at all. The buffet at La Pirogue isn't as good. We spent our sunbathing time by the quiet pool, a pool which is only enhanced by the presence of Sorab. He was possibly the best member of staff in the hotel- he was friendly, chatty and couldn't do enough for the hotel patrons. We would definitely recommend Sugar Beach. Read less
We went on a honeymoon trip and were quite impressed with their services since the beginning only.. Checking processes and baggages handling were quite smooth. Apart from excellent room services... Read more (available practically every hour of the day), the resort is quite picturesque and grand in size. We specially liked its swimming pool which ran almost every corner of the dining area. On few nights we also saw brilliant live music performance. As we were on a honeymoon trip we were invited for a cocktail party on the resort lawn. Again the lawns were perfect lush green. The reception staffs were also quite helpful to us. My wife had hurt her legs during the trip and we missed one day of our tour and the staffs were very helpful in arranging alternate travel arrangement though at a cost. ;). On the last day of our trip we were invited for a romantic beach dinner and that was really a dinner to remember. We just realised that if you are a vegetarian who don't eat everything, then probably you might not be very excited about food, as happened with my wife though I enjoyed food also. Specially if you are open to trying different kind of foods you will enjoy food also. There are also lot of leisure activities, sports and water sports facilities. I would suggest to take a day off and enjoy the resort facilities which were also really good. The only thing I find lacking was that they couldn't provide our beach dinner photo when we were checking out and didn't even mail us on our mail id. Read less
This was our fourth visit to Sugar Beach. This resort just had it all. Incredible setting, fantastic facilities, great food, but best of all some of the staff. Now don't get me wrong some of the... Read more newer staff does not have the same appetite to please and make people happy, but those that have been with the resort are like family by now. Sadly the manager Andrew Sloane was transferred to another property but the incredible Assistant Manager, Viren made our holiday special ( as always ). I truly believe he is one of the reasons why the resort is so successful. On arrival the staff knew us all, and our favorite room was ready. Management welcomed us "home" and it get genuine. We have already booked our next stay for two weeks in April next year. Cannot wait to enjoy the friendly service of the staff at Tides while eating a leisurely lunch, or enjoy a tasty Lamb Shank at Citronella's for dinner. Read less
