Recently refurbished, it really is a palace, and a spectacular one at that. Lying on Cancun’s tranquil south shore, nestled between a long, white sand beach and 55 acres of tropical foliage. Read more avoid the typical Cancun beach environment & crowds on the beach. The hotel was amazing - we stayed in Nizuc in the 7100 building on the 3rd floor. The room was absolutely beautiful, spacious for 2 & amazing views of the ocean. We were located in between Grand & Nizuc which we loved, we were easily able to enjoy both areas. Yes, there was a 5 minute walk over to Sunrise but with all the wonderful food, the walk is enjoyable. The property grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. The pools are huge & very rarely felt overcrowded. We really enjoyed all the additional activities that they offered - mini golf, bikes, kayaks, catamaran, wave rider, a well equipped qym, beach volleyball & other organized activities throughout the day. Note, we were there in the first week of February - the temperatures were in the high 70's low 80's most of the days. With that said, the pools were not heated which was kind of a bummer. On our last day, we found out that the Grand Pool was heated but was full by 10am. Additional trips that they offer included the spa, snorkeling, fishing trips, dolphin excursions, Xcaret & many more. My husband signed up for the fishing trip & had a great time - they ended up deep sea fishing catching 5 sail fish, a red snapper, blue fin tuna & multiple jack. We really enjoyed the all inclusive option for food & beverages. Everything we had was good, some things were just good but a lot of things were great. The hotel does a nice job about offering practically anything you can think of. Our favorite restaurants were Arrecifes in Nizuc, La Trattoria at the Golf Villas & El Caribeño at Moon Grand. We only once experienced a long wait but decided to try a different restaurant instead. Most every employee we interacted with was amazing - the service staff, grounds crew, room attendants and front desk were wonderful. They went above & beyond to make sure your vacation was exceptional - everything was "yes, my pleasure". Now for just a couple notes.... * When arriving you are brought to this VIP area check-in, asked to wait & then asked a few questions to determine if you are a good candidate for their timeshare program. We are already members of both Interval World & RCI & were not interested in joining another program. If this is something that is not of interest to you - just be firm & they'll stop. * One complaint was the Vacation Planners...ugghhhh... don't stop at their desk asking for advice. I had just a few questions about their spa services & they could not provide me any useful information. Luckily I had been to Cancun a few times in the past so we had an idea of the additional trips / activities that we wanted to plan. The exception was the manager for the area - he was wonderful, helped us "correct" vacations & arranged our departure trip back to the airport. * Second complaint - we were celebrating our honeymoon. On their website it says that if you notify them in advance they will try & accommodate an early check in, late check out & bottle of champagne in the room upon arrival. I don't know why we notified them of our honeymoon, we did not get any "special" additions. We did not get an early check-in, even though the resort was only 60% full, we did not get a bottle of champagne in our room & EVERY time we went to a restaurant the hostess would try to seat us on a booth by a family with small children. I have no problem with children but when I'm on my honeymoon, I would at least appreciate a nicer table. Any time I asked for a better table my request was honored but I just don't understand why this wasn't offered in the beginning. We did get a late check-out only after I spoke with the manager. * Think of the resort credits as coupons - yes, you will have to pay 16% on items but the quality of the product/trip is well worth the small amount spent. * Included in the all inclusive fee is free phone calls from the room to the United States! In addition, the Wi-Fi was great, I only had small issues when I was down at the beach. Overall with a few exceptions, we had a wonderful time & did not want to leave. I could have easily spent another day relaxing by the pool, enjoying the sun & a margharita. We certainly look forward to our next trip! Read less

Read more great, room service was quick! The room was nice, minibar restocked daily. As per most resorts like this, the beds were double, so a bit of a tight squeeze for two adults! Jacuzzi tub in the room, but with the heat in Cancun, not sure when you would use it. Pool had a great atmosphere, and the whole resort was family orientated. The Flowrider was a hit with everyone, and the lineups were manageable. The beach was alright, but as most reviewers say, there was a lot of seaweed. daily bus to the sister resort, the Beach Palace took us to the most beautiful beach in Mexico, which also had great food!! I want to give a big Hello and Thank You to Duty Manager Alfredo Tuz and tell his bosses that he is a true gem and the very definition of hospitality. We are 2 single gals who booked a trip to Moon... Read more Palace again this year. We have been there several times and each time have requested 2 beds…NOT a king bed. All but the first time we have been assigned a King bed. We also had an issue with mobility this year, as my friend hurt her knee badly just days before we were to leave. We reached out to the Resort as soon as it happened to inquire if we would be able to have a room close to the main building and pool area also with elevator access, as she could not climb stairs with her crutches. We were clear that if they could not accommodate us in this way, we would postpone the trip. We were told we would be accommodated. When we arrived we checked in very late, since our flight was delayed 4 hours. An, of course, we were assigned a king sized bed in a building quite far from the main building. After much bother and strife (2 hours worth) we finally were given an "accessible" (wheel chair accessible) room with 2 beds, near the main building. We took the room as it was now 4:30 am and we were exhausted. In the morning we discovered that it room that only had a shower made for wheelchairs (as well as other typical, accessibility features we didn't need)….one wonders how a person not in a wheelchair would be able to share a room with a person in a wheelchair….but I digress. Moon Palace is a very large resort, but we know our way around very well. We knew that certain rooms have elevator access to the main building and are close to the pool area. It didn't seem like such an outrageous request, under the circumstances (and Moon Palace has over 2000 rooms) , to be assigned an appropriate room. Enter Alfredo. We were lucky enough to meet him as we were explaining to the front desk manager, and showing her our emails indicating we would be accommodated. He took charge of our complaint immediately and he worked hard to find us a great room close to the main building of the Sunrise side. We weren't able to move rooms for another night, but in the meantime Alfredo helped us with special dinner reservations and other perks that really made us feel like he wanted to give us the best time possible after what we had been promised that his staff didn't deliver. Alfredo even arranged a special dinner at the excellent Italian restaurant at the Golf Club building. He truly made our trip wonderful. We couldn't have been happier that we met Alfredo. But, Hey, Moon Palace….how hard is it to assign a 2 bedded room to people who request a 2 bedded room! Especially since on a previous trip, we witnessed a couple who checked in just after us, and were assigned a 2 bedded room. We stood there watching and listening as the same front desk person told them there were NO rooms available with a king bed. Of course we approached the desk and offered OUR assigned King Bedded room to them! Truly unbelievable. We told Alfredo about this incident and he was appalled. I think this made him even more determined to work hard to make us want to come back again next year. You succeeded Alfredo! Otherwise, the resort is lovely and fun. The new beds are wonderful (the old ones were a bit on the hard side for my liking) and the revamped room decor is chic. I imagine the bathroom showers will be the next thing to be renovated. If I could make a suggestion, a shower with a European style 5 foot sliding-bar shower head would be nice to have. The week we were there they kept the disco open all week which was great. And I want to give a big shout out to Paul, the head waiter in the disco. He's a great guy, a superb waiter and a shining example of how to make your patrons happy. And he always does so with a big smile. As well as the Italian I mentioned, I recommend the Mexican a la carte restaurant also. The decor has changed from authentic Mexican to an, I guess, nouveau chic Mexican( the old decor was lovely, the new is a bit impersonal and cold: not qualities I associate with Mexico and its people). The food is great though. Their chicken mole is amazing and the seafood mixed grill is incredible. Also ask them to make the guacamole at your table….fabulous. The restaurant at Moon Grand is also quite nice. The Steak Palapa on Sunrise side is an outdoor(covered) restaurant that in the daytime is a lunch place. At night it transforms into a pretty decent steak place. Take some time to stop by the Swing Up Bar on Sunrise side also. A great late afternoon hangout. And use some of your resort credits at the Spa. I had a Citrus Massage using the credits and it was heavenly. So overall, aside from the "why can't we get a room with 2 beds" problem, which is a pretty big problem for people who are NOT a couple, Moon Palace is a pretty nice place, which I will recommend. Read more ended up having to dish out money to bartenders just so they would open a bottle. No consistency in liqour available (some bars had spiced rum, others didn't). It got to the point where we went to town and bought our own booze and asked them to store it behind the bar. Considering how much we paid, this was a huge letdown.No evening turn down service which was a huge disappointment. Rooms were just ok. Beds were really hard and the doors so thin you could hear slamming and people talking all night/day. They didn't replace towels daily, we never had the soap or shampoo/conditioner replaced the entire week we were there. Not all bad. The Japanese restaurant was really good and so was the steakhouse. This resort is clearly heared to getting people to sign up for a timeshare and even they had trouble getting premium service. Won't go again and wouldn't recommend it. Read less

Read more rock! Especially the staff led activities. Different shows every night including a local vendor fair on site one night.
