We had the pleasure of staying in the Moon Palace Grand in January for two all inclusive. Prior to arriving I had contacted the hotel to see what they could do to help me make the holiday special as... Read more we would be celebrating my wife's birthday. Having sent an email a quick response was received from Monica in guest relations informing me that this would be no issue and look forward to seeing us on our arrival. The reviews about the airport are correct, huge queue to get into the country which is not good after a 10 hour flight but it's part of travelling. Transfer to the hotel from airport is just 10 minutes and our arrival we were straight to check in with no wait, refreshing towel and flowers for the girls as I was travelling with my two children aged 1 and 4. Monica greeted me on check in explaining she had booked a table in one of the a la carte's for the birthday night and we were promptly taken to our room. They had upgraded us to a top floor garden room suite, room was lovely with view of pool and gardens and new buildings in the back ground but it was a quick walk to the pool, bar and Caribbean restaurant. Our luggage followed and the bell boy explained all. Awaiting in the room with a welcome plate of chocolates and bottle of champagne. The grand rooms are great for families, two double bed beds, plenty of room huge spa bath walk in shower and twin sinks, everything you need including a beach bag for you too keep. Every day handmade chocolates were delivered to your room and more chocolates left on turndown, room kept immaculate by housekeeping every day, The grand is much quieter than the other two areas but the pool is heated which is great for the children. Yes the resort is massive with at least three miles of beach along the front. Some reviews slate the beach but we found it great, clean and the sea clear on days and much calmer to paddle in than in Cancun which we found quiet rough on days we visited on the free bus from moon palace to its sister hotels. Our 4 year old loved the on site nursery especially at Nizuc which is a lot smaller than sunrise but staff were more friendly and she appeared to do more with them. Food on the site was great, plenty of choice and we never had to queue at any of the a la carte's, service being great and never a bad meal we loved mo mo and the Brazilian restaurant, with children's menu available in all. The resort enables you to do as little or as much as you like, staff are always there to help. Birthday day arrived on 2nd week on return to room it had been decorated with balloons and banner, dinner that evening was in the golf club La Trattoria which was fab, birthday card on table on arrival and birthday cake after pudding with violinist playing happy birthday with staff singing along. On return to room another birthday cake and more chocolate dipped strawberries. Moon palace is one of the only resorts our family have said they would return to, even my daughter did not want to leave. I've read many reviews about timeshare hard sales but we said no and were left alone so don't worry about that. So if you looking for somewhere that gives gives great service, lovely food and a more relaxing family vacation then book Moon Palace Grand. Yes there is building work ongoing with new lobby and loads more rooms at the Grand but if your out of the way this will not effect your stay, the rooms at the Grand are far bigger than sunrise and Nizuc and for the same price been much more worth it. Thanks Moon Palace for a fab holiday we will be back. Read less

Ok, where to begin. I paid a large amount of money for a weeks holiday, based my choice on the reviews and recommendations of this deluxe complex, was expecting a nice deluxe room as per description... Read more wording deluxe, in theory the room facilities yes. BUT the room presented to me with broken curtains, broken handles on the units, air condition controls loose (very noisy) maybe needed looking at, hole in the wall, dirty bits coming out water, ants nest and repair jobs to the room that really looked shabby, lack of care and it was very far to get to the main area lobby, pool - but I could accept a walk, but very disappointed with the room standards. Sorry, can't recall the exact room number, not really wanting too! number over 7200 in Nizuc. Asking me at check in if it was my first visit, YES, my question, would you give this type of room to a new guest on a reputation of this deluxe resort?, WOW really shocking. Some of the reception staff are a little, what's the word, seem to have a chip on their shoulders and have some poor customer service skills and coming up with answers that were unprofessional. I have been in the travel industry and working in customer service for over 23 years and was shocked about some of the replies. Well it's not Moon Palace's fault about the holiday rep. I couldn't find them anywhere to express my disappointment, in the end I requested to speak to the manager and this was also with the help / discussions / communication with my travel agent manager back in the UK - who also recommends this hotel and was very sad to here of my experience at the time. But I must say Mr J Carlos, manager/reception very professional and sorted out with a replacement room (6216) on the 3rd day, the deluxe room, but was much better presented and I wasn't expecting a better view, but in a nice surprise this room did have this, so thank you. Mr Carlos was very professional in the remaining time of my stay, when needed some more help/advise. This slowly restored my faith in the reputation of moon palace. But it's a real shame that I had to sort this kind of problems out in such a short duration. The complex is very large, transport moves between areas, if you don't mind walking then being away from the lobby shouldn't be to much agro - get a map to understand complex before check in gives you maybe a room in the wrong place for you. On to some positives: Food is excellent, try to vary your restaurants to give you a experience of what the moon palace has to offer, it’s very clean and the staff work very hard, so do tip as they definitely deserve it. Yes it's all inclusive and many people were not leaving tips, but I think you should, but that's my point of view, trust me it makes their day. Beach is kept clean, but don't expect crystal clear waters, think you need to stay further away, but if you want to be around a pool and complex enjoying your all inclusive then the resort is for you. But you can get to the main centre, no problems there. Take long walks down the beach, past the pier and go as far as you like (early in the morning is really a nice time) Mr Baz I called him, a pleasant older staff member helping get you some drinks around the pool area, friendly and tell he enjoys his job:0) Resort credit, do look hard in to this and ask questions as there are hidden extras. With the staff going out there way to be friendly = that gets top marks, gym facilities are basic, but you can always compromise, staff are very friendly in the gym. Close to airport, yes you can tell a busy airport, but Nizuc area not too disturbed by passing planes. I wouln’t rush to go back, this is based upon on my first experience, because I would be a little nervous of being presented another poor standard of room, but this doen’t mean I won’t return in the future. The remaining time was really fine, so I do have to base my rating on first experience and to the ending of my stay – 3-4*, trust me you would of had my top marks 5* if you hadn’t of place me in that room at the start of the holiday! So I do hope you look in to the rooms, compare your other rooms (as they should really all be the same quality) so others visiting are not presented with shocks! Read less

This is a stunning resort - particularly if you are in Nizuc or Grand Moon. Leisure facilities were superb as were the golf courses. Standard and choice of food at breakfast was superb, outdoor... Read more barbecue was excellent for lunch and in the evenings La Trattoria (at the Golf club) was superb - you need to reserve a table early if not in advance. The Brazilian restaurant at Nizuc was also very good (but had waiting times of 1 Hour) but the Italian buffet at Nizuc was poor, which probably contributed to the long waiting times at the Brazilian. Particularly disappointing was La Gondola at Sunrise. A Portobello Mushroom dish had the tiniest piece of mushroom while the pasta main course was lukewarm and tasteless. This was the main let down and although the waiter was very concerned (had probably had numerous complaints) our complaints to management and guest relations fell on deaf ears. But for these two restaurants would have been areal five star experience Read less

I love the Moon Palace! I have been going with my family every year for over 10 years now and it's always improving. I have stayed at nizuc, grand and sunrise but prefer the presidential suites in... Read more sunrise the most. By far my favorite part of the resort is the entertainment of the piano man Bella Duka. He is AMAZING!!! He travels through the resorts playing nizuc, grand and sunrise. I enjoy having Mexican coffee and listening to him at the Italian restaurant in Sunrise the most. He plays billy Joel and Elton John covers like I've never before heard. He also plays the best jazz. My now husband and I got engaged while he was playing and he played a very special song for us when it happened. We ended up coming back 2 months later for the wedding and he came up after he played his three sets to serenade us for hours after our wedding. It was the most spectacular part of the night and is something I will never forget. Because of Bella, some of the best memories of my life have a soundtrack. I am so thankful for him. Read less
