TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
My family (all adults) traveled to Now Sapphire Feb.22 to Feb.28 and had the time of our lives. The check in was probably the fastest I've ever experienced. Miguel was able to put all four couples in... Read more the same building. We opted for the preferred club and we were not disappointed. Ivan greeted us almost as soon as we stepped onto the beach and helped us reserve lounge chairs right away. In my opinion the resort is laid out very well and easy to navigate. The room was spacious and clean with no "funny" odors. We went down to the beach for sunrise almost every morning and found it clean and orderly. The adult pool was great for just hanging out while the main pool was more active. I can't say enough about the entertainment staff. Every one of them was energetic and engaging. My sisters and I played Bingo each day and Laura made it more fun each time. She went out of her way to include everyone around the area, even those not playing the game. She also led the morning bike ride and did pool aerobics, and those are just the ones I knew about. One evening the entertainment staff provided a Fire Show on the beach that was truly exciting. Another night they had an America Idol show allowing guests to preform for prizes. Our final night was spent at the Mexican Fiesta which highlighted many regional dishes and Mexican Dancing. It's hard to believe the same few people provided so many activities. They resort provided each room daily with a detailed list of all the activities along with the drink of the day, time of the sunrise and other useful resort information. One of the greatest assests of Now Sapphire is the wait staff. We ate at several of the restaurants and were always treated very well. I have to say I was not thirsty or hungry the entire time I was on vacation. Jonathon at the Market Place was a welcome face every time we ate there and the variety of food, including a section for kids, was phenomenal! Along with the entertainment staff, the bartenders are some of the hardest workers. I rarely waited more than one minutes for a drink even if it was just water. My only complaint is the resort did not enforce the dress codes for a couple of the restaurants. Some guests were allowed the wear t shirts and jeans shorts which took away from the ambiance for me. I highly recommend Now Sapphire to everyone traveling to Riviera Maya. Read less
We went to now sapphire with our family. Our family had previously traveled here and wanted to go back for a quick trip. Upon arrival, we were able to change even though our room wasn't ready (we... Read more got to the resort around noon). They held our bags for us while we headed out to the pool and wait for the rest of our family to arrive. We didn't have to wear wrist bands, which was nice. The staff was extremely nice and the hotel was very clean. The rooms were clean and the décor was neat. I stayed in the Bahamas in October and was skeptical about resorts after that trip, but this resort had every amenity that we were looking for. The food was really good at the buffet, it far exceeded our expectations. The fresh salsa bar was our favorite. We did eat at 2 different restaurants, the Mexican grill and the hibachi grill. Both were good, but not quite as good as the buffet. There was a live band the one evening which we enjoyed as well. It wasn't too crowded because the lobby is very spacious. Also, the layout of the hotel was very appealing. The entire resort was very open and had great water features. Overall, this has been the best resort I've ever stayed at. There weren't people on the beach haggling you to buy stuff and I wasn't pressured to look at the products they had for the night of the market. Read less
Our family and friends had a wonderful time at the Now Sapphire from February 26-March 4th. The spa was a beautiful facility, the resort was large but intimate, and many, many details were attended... Read more to. I wish I could give it five stars. I hesitate to give it three stars because its really a four star place, but for a gluten free family its only three stars. The seaweed at the ocean was a bummer, but the sand was gorgeous and we enjoyed the beach and pools. There were only two downsides for us: The restaurants were not accommodating for our gluten sensitivities and they allow sleazy vacation club sales people to be stationed at the resort posing as bell boys as you arrive. Not gluten free educated... We are all three gluten free and have eaten this way for over five years. Because of this we are educated enough that we were able to navigate the buffet and restaurants to some degree. The restaurants are very sensitive to vegetarianism and the menus were well marked if you prefer to avoid meat, but for gluten there was nothing. This added a level of stress to our stay. Most of our waiters were a bit lost by our requests and questions. At the Mexican restaurant the waiter told us the chef was too busy to talk to us, but we could all have salads - a very uneducated answer. In the Lemon Grass restaurant they were the most helpful and asked the chef for selections for us. We ate there the most often, but if we were there for more than a week I would have been sick of the food. My son is 11 and this kept us from some of the restaurants. I personally don't think children over 8 years old should be banned from a restaurant at a child friendly resort but we respected their guidelines. We were told the concierge could help us with our gluten sensitivities but after digging in the drawer for ten minutes and not finding anything (I think there was some card we would have been given to present to the restaurants?) he suggested we just tell our waiters. *sigh* I need to admit that this was out first all inclusive resort and overall I was impressed. I am not 100% sold on the all inclusive model as I like the adventure of exploring an area and thanks to trip advisor we nearly hit 100% success on our hotel and restaurant choices, but since we had our 11 year old son I was willing to try it thinking it would reduce the stress of trying to find gluten free meals we can eat. No so much. I will research this aspect more next time. I can contrast this to the Excellence resort next door (which we didn't chose because it is adults only and we had our son). We visited the Excellence for a wedding. They were highly accommodating and educated about gluten free meals. They served us fresh baked gluten free bread and we had the most amazing gluten free wedding cake there. If air and cream and sugar ever conceived a child...I may never forget it. The friends who stayed there said the restaurants were like that for every meal. Very educated on GF! Sleazy Sales Tactics The second negative experience was with an organization called "Unlimited" which is there to sell you a vacation club which is very much like a time share except you pay them around 30K or more in advance for your future discounts at their resorts versus owning a specific unit. It may be a great deal, but we couldn't tell because they were using sleazy sales tactics rather than telling us the facts. They said it would be 90 minutes but it was nearly 3 hours later that we finally got the $100 certificate (we used it save $100 on the rental car) and we left. We really needed our assertiveness skills to get out of there. Several couples that were there when we say down were still there after we left. $100=3 hours of our vacation time=not worth it. Even if the vacation club was a good deal (which I still don't know) the way we were treated left a bad taste in my mouth towards the entire chain of resorts. It was as if they got us to agree on a 20 small facts (wouldn't you agree its good to save money?) we would just keep saying yes and give them 30K without understanding the program/contract in detail. Insulting. Read less
I've never been to Mexico before, but I've stayed at several places around the globe. For what I paid in my vacation package, overall this place was a positive experience: 1. The rooms are... All the eateries (Including the buffet) were yummy! 5. Resort property was amazing. 6. Drinks were great, a little surgary but yummy! 7. I felt safe at this hotel. I was a little worried with security and safety but I felt like home at this place. Use the safe in the room. 8. Beach was meh, so stick with the pools. We had a little issue getting rooms and logistics figured out (About an hour and a half wait for this), but overall were provided. Read less
My husband, daughter , her husband and I travelled to the Now Sapphire Feb.24-March 3. Check in was fast and we had exceptional service from Jesus at the front desk. He was patient with me when I... Read more changed our room selection twice and we were able to move to building 6 where my daughter was placed. The ability to change rooms was likely due to a number of guests leaving the next day and might not all ways be possible but I really did appreciate being able to do it. He was courteous the whole week whenever we needed information or help. This hotel is stunning and the staff can not be beat. Everyone was just as the majority of reviews state-Fabulous!! There are 3 I want to expressly mention: 1) Carlos who was our waiter at the Mexican Restaurant. He was very entertaining and even made my daughter a grasshopper out of leaves one night and on another occasion he preformed a comical Mayan Ritual while making her a Mexican coffee for a Birthday surprise. He even got the other waiters to join in on the Ritual. Extremely Fun!! 2) Javier who works with the Spa team- He was very courteous and kind and talked about the local town and area with knowledge and humour. He also gave us a good deal on the spa. #3 was a woman at the lobby bar ( unfortunately I did not get her name- didn't have my glasses on! ) The place was packed but she literally took the chairs from the area where they sell you excursions and crated a place for my family and I to sit and enjoy the nightly live music. She was a dynamo and a sight to see dragging those chairs across the whole lobby just to make sure we had a nice place to sit. The resort is just as lovely as the pictures show. The main pool is large and the seating area is all around it and is even 3 levels on the ocean side. They keep the pool area ( and the rest of the resort ) very clean and inviting. The pool bar is always hopping and the wait staff were great. One of them even made me a drink in a carved out pineapple and made a face on it using other fruit. Fun! There were constantly servers asking if you would like a beverage and removing used glasses and refuse. The entertainment staff were wonderful and there was always something on the go. My husband received the nick name of " sexy mustache" from one of the entertainment guys and it stuck all week. We unfortunately didn't see any of the night shows put on by this energetic team so I can't comment on that but judging from their performance during the day they would have made it enjoyable. The canoe on Saturday full of fruit kabobs was a nice touch. The beach is soft white sand and gorgeous and there are loungers both with and without sun shade. The sea grass was minimal on all but one day( that day there were rough seas ) and never deterred me from going in the water. They run the beach groomers several times a day and judging from the long beach walks I took, Now Sapphire does a better job of cleaning the beach then some of the other close by resorts. The wait staff also serve on the beach which was great as it is HOT. There were a some beach vendors but they were never a problem as a simple negative head shake sent the few who approached away. The beach is federal property so the resort can not deny them the right to walk it. The food at this resort is very good. I have stayed at other AI's in Mexico ,Jamacia an DR and Now Sapphire had not only the best food but the best wait staff. Which ones you like best will depend on your taste but for me the Blue Water Grill for either lunch or dinner ( the steak was great at night ), the Mexican (everything we tried was good ) and the Asian were my favorites.( The hibachi table at Lemongrass was also a great show and we met some very nice Brits there.) The buffet is good, lots of choices and has grill stations for omelettes, tacos, burgers etc. You may need to look around for some of the toppings , condiments etc. as they have them spread around the room. We ate breakfast there and some lunches but only had dinner once. ( the night we arrived ). There really is something for everyone at the buffet. You need to check the flyer they give you at night ( turn down service) as it will tell you which of the 2 restaurants will be closed the next day. They were closing 2 each night we were there to allow their staff time off in each 7 day period. The rooms were nice and well appointed with everything you need. The shower may present a issue for those who have mobility issues as you have to negotiate a tub depth enclosure with a aprox. 8 inch top to get in. These are not jetted tubes which I liked. You knew the tub was clean where the jetted variety are really hard to clean fully. We were happy with building 6 and my daughter even got a partial ocean view without being preferred(601). We were on the 3rd. floor with a view of the trees(636) The stairs were a challenge but doable. The maid service was always good and our mini fridge was always restocked. Never had a problem. We did one treatment at the spa and the spa itself is lovely. The massage was fine but the hydrotherapy was a disappointment. We did one trip to Playa del Carmen for a little shopping. The cab was $45. one way and because they are now unionized there is no negotiating the price. Word of advice- If you want to eat on 5th Ave. DON'T go to the Texas Burger Co. It was horrible and the manager needs to learn people skills!! We also went to the JUNGLE SPA and I can whole heartily recommend this place. It was the BEST massage I have ever had and it is a real treat to be in a community tourism spot that employs and is run by local women in Puerto Morelos. It's not " fancy " but it is a culturally rich experience. The one negative I had for this resort is that they allow the practice of saving the loungers even if it is apparent that no one is using them. If you like to sleep in a little you will still get a lounger but it will likely be on the lower deck and without a sun shade. The resort needs to enforce it's written policy of not allowing loungers to be saved that are not being used. Read less
