TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
This was my fourth visit to this 6 star all inclusive resort since Aug. 2012. I keep going back because the location is exquisite, the staff are exceptional, the accommodations are lovely and the... Read more food is great. There are no reservations at the specialty restaurants or the buffet. There is a French, Mexican, Asian, Continental and Grill. Only the buffet and Grill are open for lunch, but the quality of the food is excellent and varied. My daughter and granddaughter went in January 2014 and they almost always ate at the buffet because they liked it so much. I had fish and/or seafood every day. There is a white fish that they prepare that is exquisite. I don't know how the chef manages to cook this for so many people and have it turn out perfect all the time. The white fish is rolled up and has a light white sauce...delicious. For those watching their waistline, there are always steamed fresh vegetables, fruit and salad. Of course, if you want to try something richer there's plenty to choose from. The afternoon before I left I had a hamburger from the buffet. It was outstanding. I can go on and on about the great meals in the specialty restaurants and buffet because many of the dishes were really world class. Just to mention one though, let me tell you about the continental restaurant, the Cibu, On one occasion I had a wonderful grilled salmon dinner. On another occasion I had the chicken breast. Both were so tasty and succulent...done to perfection. I highly recommend the shrimp appetizer and either the seafood soup or the mushroom soup. Other things might be great as well, but in my two visits that's what I had. Aside from the food, the grounds are gorgeous and the entire resort is kept impeccably clean. The staff will go out of their way for you and really make you feel special. They have contingency programs in case of rain, but whenever I have been there I've had great weather, so I don't know what they do. They do have riffle shooting, yoga, dance lessons, water exercises, and so much more. There is every age group and separate supervised activities for children. There is also entertainment, The Sapphire has several bars and there is service on the beach as well. Also, there is a coffee bar off the main lounge area where you can get every kind of coffee drink imaginable. In the morning they have muffins and danish, in the afternoon sandwiches, and at night amazing pastries. Finally, I need to tell you about the spa. You can get your nails or hair done, or you could have a facial, massage, body wrap, etc. I have only gone in for a massage and it was WONDERFUL. Be sure to come about an hour early if you schedule a massage. They have a pool which does a foot massage, a hot jetted pool, a cold jetted pool, a sauna and a steam room. But the most outstanding thing is the circuit is the pool that has special jets that massage every part of your body. This includes water falls that massage your neck and back, and a special pool bed that works on your whole body. I'm planning to go back again this year and highly recommend it. A big thumbs up to all the staff who make this such a great vacation. Read less
My husband and I returned from our trip to this resort about 2 weeks ago. This was my third visit to the Mayan Riviera, the first at this resort. As I usually do, I emailed the resort before... Read more arriving to request a ground floor room central to amenities due to my spouse's mobility issues. I received a response from the resort and our request was fulfilled. We stayed in building 12 and the walk to the lobby, pool, beach etc was not too far. We did not book preferred club and frankly didn't notice any difference! Check-in at the resort was extremely quick as there was only one other couple who arrived with us. We arrived at 10:30 in the morning and were told check-in was not until 4:00pm, however our room may be ready earlier. Having been travelling since 6:00 am, we went to the buffet for breakfast and when finished our room was ready! It was great not to have to wait. We also liked the fact that this resort does not use wrist bands or towel cards. Our room was very clean and spacious. When we arrived, the bellhop ensured everything in our room was ok and checked the mini fridge to ensure it had been properly stocked. That was a nice touch. Our first few days were spent at the beach, however, as mentioned by other reviewers, there was too much seaweed in the water for my liking. We spent the remainder of our vacation by the pool. We didn't have issue in finding loungers by the pool until the last two days. We liked the concrete beds in the water, so never had a problem finding one. We also enjoyed the floating beds that were available, however, they are sought after much like the towel game!! Also, because there are no towel cards used at this resort, some people took several and left them on chairs even when they had left for the day. You never knew if the chairs were still being used or just left for the staff to pick up. The resort has several huge bins for you to return your towels and the number of people who just left them on chairs (or even in the water) at the end of the day was an embarrasment! Food: We travel south on a yearly basis (Mexico, DR, Cuba) and the food at this resort was by far the best we have had. The buffet always had a good variety of choice. We did two a-le-cartes and the service and food was great. The resort does not take reservations for the speciality restaurants and while we did not have to wait for two of the restaurants, we were unable go to the Bluewater Grill due to the very long wait time, being able to make a reservation would have been nice (without buying a bottle of $40 wine). My only other comment is the lack of choices whereby to eat lunch. The buffet is open at lunch, however, you cannot be wet from the pool or beach to eat there. The only other option is the grill and the wait to be seated could be anywhere from 20 min to 2 hours. On our last day we noticed the cafe had sandwiches which I wished I had known earlier. Service: I cannot say enough about the staff at this resort. From the staff taking drink orders on the beach, the bartenders at the main lobby and especially the wait staff. Extremely friendly, effecient and everything is "my pleasure". The resort also offers free room service of which we used our last morning before checking out to go home. The free Wifi and long distance calling to home was also a nice extra!!! Ground: The grounds are beautiful, fountains everywhere and the walk to our building felt like we were on a path in the middle of a rain forest. We also found this resort to be very clean: the grounds, the pool and the washrooms by the pool and at the lobby were spotless!! Overall: We booked this resort last minute not really knowing much about it and are so glad we did. We loved this resort and had a great time. The only downfall is the beach. We are not pool people and would have preferred to swim in the salt water but it was too murky, unlike our visit to Playa Del Carmen last year that had the best beach we have been to. This, of course, is not something the resort can control. Would I recommend this resort, absolutely!! Would I return, not yet...there are so many resorts we haven't been to, we don't like to go somewhere twice! Read less
My boyfriend and I just returned from a stay of 7 nights, 8 days at the Now Sapphire resort in Cancun and were thrilled with our experience! Last year we stayed at the Now Amber in Puerto Vallarta... Read more and absolutely loved it, so were nervous about trying to top the experience. From the airport we were picked up and taken to our resort which was a short (and enjoyable) drive away. Another couple going to a resort in the same area rode with us and was regretting their decision not to stay at our resort from the minute we pulled up. As per usual, the Now resorts ensure you are taken care of and guided to where you need to be from the point of check-in to the time when you leave. The concierge (Gregory, I believe) greeted us and upon learning it was an anniversary trip - upgraded us to a beautiful suite in building 3. We had a tropical view off of our ground-floor terrace and truly, it was stunning. Every morning as you opened the doors we could sit out there and listen to the birds and enjoy the trees and sunshine- gorgeous! Not to mention the beach/pool/main areas were a couple steps away - although we were never disturbed by any noise within our suite. DAVID gave us a very brief overview of the grounds after we checked in and let us know where we could have some lunch while our bags were taken to our room. Lunch at the Market Cafe was great- a nice buffet selection with the best part being our waiter who (luckily for us) served us breakfast every morning of our trip- ELOY is amazing, and if you are lucky enough to have him please let him know his watermelon-juice-loving friend says hi (it's called "sandia"). Here's a breakdown on our experience for anyone looking to go there in future: Rooms: loved our room, loved being in a building nearest the ocean, but really, no building is THAT far off (despite some reviews we read prior to going- which now seem ridiculous) as the grounds are gorgeous but not so large that it's too big a walk anywhere- it's beautiful everywhere there! our room had a tub + shower combo which was the only disappointment, as more modern furnishings and a separate walk-in shower would have completed the experience, but overall a great space with everything we needed. our housekeeper, ALMA, cleaned the room twice a day and even turned down the bed in the evening, wonderful! Food: -Market Buffet was good, a good selection of foods and no complaints there at all- plus it's a gorgeous view of the ocean from almost any seat in the house -Cibu was our favorite restaurant, I have included a collage photo here of some of our meals there, just delicious- and our waiter PEDRO was excellent!!! -Blue Water was a great lunch/dinner spot as well, and our waiter ABRAHAM took great care of us, beautiful outdoor restaurant right on the beach -Paramour was fun, French cuisine and a nice wine list, again the service was phenomenal -Lemongrass has both a sushi/asian cuisine side and a Hibachi side- both were fun and the food was good, the Hibachi experience did not compare to the one last year at the Now Amber so that would be one thing I would say was sub-par -Fresca is the Mexican-cuisine restaurant and was our least favorite owing to the menu but there were no complaints with service and we were happy to have at least tried it BEACH/POOL: this pool is one of the largest I've seen anywhere, and is gorgeous, SO MANY places to lie out around the pool and within it, so many sections to swim that you're never short of a private little spot to float around, not to mention the 2 whirlpools at opposite ends to sit at and the fun swim-up bar the beach is stunning and goes on forever, loads of chairs to lie out on and a beach bar for drinks (although there are waiters coming to your chairs to take orders both by the pool and the beach), the sand is white and soft and the machine to rake through it goes by regularly, the ocean is as warm as bath water and just beyond words ENTERTAINMENT TEAM: I had to do a separate section for these guys because they are just INCREDIBLE. Whether by the pool, or in the Lobby, or in the Nightclub, or the Theatre, the NOW ENTERTAINMENT TEAM is AMAZING!!! They work tirelessly all day to orchestrate everything from endless poolside activities (contests, sports, aerobics, something for everyone) all the way to just INCREDIBLE shows of talent in the evening in the theatre and on the beach. A few shout outs to some of the people who truly made our trip what it was: MIGUEL- we ADORE you and thank you for showing us such a good time (and my own Miguel aka Mikey says HIII) Francisco, Laura, Ferni - and all the rest, you are all so amazing and hard-working, we can't thank you enough! Some tips: we did not do the Preferred option (although we did stay in a Preferred building) and did not miss it, you will have a great time regardless, we are still clueless as to what might have been better with "preferred status" wake up around 7 and throw a towel on whatever pool/beach chair you want, they say there are no reservations of these spots, but people don't listen and when you go back later on, your towels will be there and you won't have the headache of looking for a seat (which happens at every resort) the dinner rush at 6 isn't worth it- enjoy the beach or pool until 5-ish when the sun starts to trail off, then get ready for dinner and have a drink in the lobby, if you go to the restaurants between 7:30 and later, you won't ever wait long, and anytime we were given a beeper- it was never more than 15 minutes and they were incredibly accommodating about it the tv- it will seem as though every channel is in Spanish, but if you fiddle around with the remote, you'll discover the option to change the language to English which works for most channels and is valuable considering there were great movies on each night when we would go back to the room TIP WELL- yes, you paid for all inclusive, and no, you're not expected or ever asked to- but these people work insanely hard for hours and hours on end and keep a smile going the whole time, everyone from your bellboy to your housekeeper to the people who are teaching you Spanish dances by the pool deserve to know that their efforts are recognized and appreciated. It won't kill most of us to keep some money on hand and make someone's day! Thank you to the NOW and especially to MIGUEL, ELOY & ALMA for making this such an enjoyable and memorable stay!!! My wife and I just returned from Now Sapphire and loved our trip there. While we normally try and got a Secrets, this quick, last minute trip made Secrets Maroma cost prohibitive. Therefore we... Read more stuck with the brand and gave Sapphire a try. The grounds are beautiful, and we loved the lobby. Of all the resorts we've been to (at least 8 different ones near Cancun) we thought the layout and design of the lobby was our favorite. Rather than the grand lobby of most places it is laid out in an open style with connected bridges and walkways. It was different and one of the reasons we loved it so much. The rooms were ok, made us wonder if this resort was purchased from a different brand though. The bathrooms were just ok, they don't have a separate shower and bath and this is something we don't normally see in newer resorts or with the Secrets brands. One thing that was great was the inclusion of the bidet in the bathroom. Not sure why they aren't more popular with the other resorts, but my wife sure appreciated it and maybe it was just coincidence that there were a ton of French people at a resort that also had bidets in the restrooms. Except for one server, I won't say his name but it starts with an "I" and he's older, everyone was super friendly. The food was good, not fantastic but good, and if we wanted something not necessarily on the menu they would get it for us. I'd like to give a shout out to Julian and Jacinto for their excellent service and friendly nature. The entertainment staff was also excellent. Read less
We stayed at Now Sapphire for 7 glorious nights in April to get away from the Minnesota winter! We had the most relaxing vacation ever, with beautiful accomodations. We had requested rooms, we... Read more traveled with friends, in building 6. The resort was able to accomodate our request and we had a spectacular view of the beach and ocean from our balcony, and just a quick trip down the stairs and out the door to the beach! We were a little walk away from the pool area and the main lobby and restaurants, but it was always a beautiful walk in the morning to hit the pool area. The staff at the resort is so gracious and friendly, always greeting the guests and so willing to help. The entertainment staff was amazing, they put in some LONG days, and work so hard! My applause to them - they certainly deserve it! They are extremely energetic and kept us entertained while relaxing by the pool all day. The restaurants were all good, my only complaint would be the buffet could be bigger with more options. We stayed at Now Jade 2 years ago, and the buffet there is about twice the size with many more options. Most often if we had to wait for dinner at a restaurant it was a fairly short wait. We usually tried to eat around 6, to avoid the big rush that happens around 7 pm. The Asian restaurant and the hibichi grill is fantastic! All said, we had a great trip and came home relaxed and ready to deal with the remainder of our Minnesota winter! I would definitely recommend the Now Sapphire and would most likely visit here again.
