Caesars Palace

The Strip, Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

This Las Vegas legend hasn’t outlasted many of its neighbours by accident. Look beyond its decadent glory-of-Rome exterior and you’ll find supremely well-appointed, contemporary rooms and suites without a whiff of white marble overkill. There are few Vegas resorts that can hold a Roman candle to Caesar’s casino and gaming options, while foodies could happily spend days ticking off the relaxed and upscale eateries on offer. Likewise, if retail therapy is on your mind, the resort’s Forum Shops is an opulent mall that’s been dubbed ‘The Shopping Wonder of the World’. And did we mention that Caesar’s Palace continues to host the grandest of grand Vegas performers such as Adele at its 4,000 plus seater Colosseum stadium?

While I once visited Vegas fairly regularly, this trip was after a ten-year gap. I reference this as perhaps Vegas has just changed and all of the casinos have followed suit...or perhaps it is just the Caesar experience. First, the good...the casino is beautiful and the rooms were excellent value. We stayed in the Octavius Tower. We were there to see Garth Brooks and the Colloseum is a wonderful venue...there isn't a bad seat in the house. So when you go to Vegas, you go in knowing you are going to be overpaying for everything. Bottled water at Caesar's was $8 and the sundries store, $13 in the room. A mixed drink? $20. It is what it is. My issue is the nickel and diming Caesars put into play. We arrived about 45 minutes earlier than expected. We waited in the Registration line for about 20 minutes. Upon arriving, we were told our room was ready, but we'd have to pay $35 to get into our room 25-minutes early. I asked for the fee to be waived and was told it went against policy. I then said we would wait for the 25-minutes, but the hotel clerk stated we would have to start the registration process over and also wait in line again. We paid the $35. Next issue...as soon as you get in the room, the screen on the television asks you to connect your phones to the Wi-Fi. Done. The issue. We had tablets and my wife had a laptop for work. Apparently, you are only able to connect 2 devices. Now, I guess that would be fine if you could just disconnect one device and reconnect another...but that isn't how it works. Whatever 2 devices are connected first are the 2 devices you get to use Wi-Fi on...you are married to the choice. Want to add another device? $14.99/day. I called and asked to allow me to disconnect my phone so we could connect the laptop for work. The individual on the other line informed me she had no control over it and there was nothing she could do. Welcome to Caesars, thank you for your $50 to access your room 25-minutes early and to connect your laptop. Suffice to say, it left a bad taste. Clearly, we attended Garth, but we spent every other dollar we used on dining, gambling, drinking, and entertainment at either Rio, Cosmo, or the Bellagio. Caesars certainly won't miss those $2,000 dollars, but it was principle. We won't stay there again or purchase tickets for any of their entertaniers. Read less

I wanted to give a shout out to Pablo, the gentleman who helped check us in to our room. There was a huge line on the day of check in. He was professional and very kind. He patiently addressed all of our questions during what looked to be a chaotic day for the Caesars staff. His exceptional service is why I will choose to stay at Caesars Palace again in the future. After traveling to get there, it was an incredible feeling to be greeted and treated so kindly by such a kind and sweet person.
