The Strip, Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

In a city of fabulous excess where big is always beautiful, the 5,000-room MGM Grand takes the XXL biscuit. The world’s second largest hotel features a 6.5-acre Grand Pool Complex containing four swimming pools, three whirlpools, Vegas’ longest lazy river, and waterfalls. The Wet Republic Ultra Pool holds seasonal pool parties too. And that’s just for starters, as the MGM Grand hosts huge sporting events, top shows such as Ka by Cirque du Soleil, Virtual Reality and famous performers such as David Copperfield. On top of that, Hakkasan regularly hosts DJs Steve Aoki and Lil Jon. Peckish after all that? Then take your pick from a mouth-watering range of restaurants that satisfy pretty much any mood and taste you can imagine.

Rooms desperately need an upgrade. Restaurant food average at best. Cafe was okay. Chinese restaurant was really bad. I paid for an upgrade and felt like it was a downgraded room. It was a joke. Blinds were broken, located above valet so super loud, bed sheets were rough, pillows flat… you get the picture.

Had a lot of fun! Lots to do and room was clean. Staff was nice and charming and answered all of our questions. I definitely will stay at this hotel again in the future. Their mobile check in process is very easy.

Was very nice, lots of walking around to all the different in house venues. Rooms were clean and had plenty of space. Easy mobile check in and out from the app. Pool was cool and not too crowded at this time.

The location is great, with easy access to the monorail and walking access to Cosmo, Crystals Shops, Paris, Bellagio, etc. However, the facilities and decor are getting a little tired and could stand an overhaul. The location is great, with easy access to the monorail and walking access to Cosmo, Crystals Shops, Paris, Bellagio, etc. However, the facilities and decor are getting a little tired and could stand an overhaul. Beds and pillows aren't the most comfortable. And the cigarette smoke in the casino areas seems heavier than usual, even for Vegas. Made us want to avoid eating dinner there. The pool areas are great. Just double-check the hours. The lazy river was closed when we were there with our family over spring break, which was a big reason we chose to stay there. Bring your own floaties if you care to; they're available for purchase, but there are no rentals or loaners. Prices of everything on site are beyond absurd, which isn't unique to MGM Grand. Stock up on bottled water and snacks at the Walgreens nearby on the Strip if you want to save a few dollars, or a few hundred. Overall, MGM Grand is serviceable at the right price, but I'd avoid paying a premium to stay here. Read less
