TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
There are SO many hotels around Disneyland, that this creates an intensive quality competition amongst them. The advantage is for the guest! A couple of our family members have stayed at the Red... Read more Lion before and said it was decent in the past. We have stayed at a number of hotels around Disneyland and have found that while it is REALLY convenient to stay right across from the main entrance (hotels such as Carousel Inn & Suites, Tropicana Inn & Suites, B.W. Park Place Inn, Park View Inn, Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites), we have found better quality rooms down the street on Harbor Blvd for about the same price. I will add the caveat at this point to say that we haven't stayed at the previously mentioned hotels for about 4 years, so they may or may not have raised the quality level; I don't know. However, most all of the down-the-street hotels have the kind of rooms that make you look forward to the room at the end of the day. Red Lion apparently has raised their quality bar. Our family members who had previously visited this Red Lion all said that their rooms on this visit were much nicer than what they had experienced earlier. We found our rooms to be acceptably clean, with comfortable beds, white sheets around a comforter, which is a LOT cleaner than the old and rarely washed bedspreads that hotels used to do (and still do in cheaper hotels)! Great flat screen TV, Keurig coffee maker, fairly clean carpets, no ick factor. (Perhaps staying at the scary hotel we stayed at one night in LA influenced my viewpoint of this place) We had a quiet room, and a great view of Disneyland, so we got to watch the fireworks from our room on the first night we arrived. Great plus! I cannot rate their breakfast as I did not use it. The main reason I chose this place this time is because I wanted to use a hotel that was as close as possible to the Disneyland Toy Parking Lot and FREE shuttle. The other places we've used (all the hotels around Harbor & Chapman) either have the ART shuttle or their own shuttle, none of which are free, so I thought I would try this. I got our room through Groupon (look around; I found other sites to be cheaper than Groupon after the fact), but honestly, there was a bunch of fees on top of that. I'm not going to hammer Red Lion for doing this because frankly, ALL the hotels there do this. I feel like it's a come-on, "We're $89 a night, except with all the fees AND parking, it's $139!!" I'm going to guess that some hotel someplace found this to be a cool trick: advertise a price without 'extra added fees' then add them after the guest has signed up. So don't pick on Red Lion for doing this. They ALL do it close to Disneyland. I wish they would ALL not do this, but someone is going to have to be the first one. I would rate the hotel overall as a 2.5 to 3 star level. My experience rating for this 3 star hotel would have been 5 stars, except it's four stars for the following reasons: #1 No hot tub (Seriously? A 'resort fee' and no hot tub?) #2 Glass bathroom doors. (Okay, it's obscured glass, but who was the genius that thought this was a good idea??) #3 No rooms available as a suite, with a sleeper couch There are two brand new hotels going up VERY close by. Next door on the corner of Harbor and Katella will be the 252 room Hyatt House with a Walgreen's. And going up RIGHT next door to the Disney Toys Parking Lot is a 215 room Hilton Homewood Suites. It looks like both places are kind of the same concept: suites, or studios, or 1 or 2 bedroom places, kitchens, etc. The competition will be a lot heavier for the existing hotels in this spot. However, on the other hand, my husband, a framing contractor, watched the framing at the Hyatt and was AMAZED at how slow the framing was going during our four day stay, so maybe the existing hotels right there will be 'safe' for a bit longer. I first watched construction at the Homewood Suites this past November and it looks like they're not moving fast there either since then. So overall, for our experience and stay at the Red Lion this week, yes, we would give this our overall recommendation. Read less
I rated this hotel as terrible before because of the hidden fees that they didn't tell me about until I asked. Shady business! I wouldn't have returned but I booked on Priceline and got this hotel... Read more again. I wasn't exactly thrilled but upon checking in everything changed. The guy at the front desk did apologize and told me that there are resort fees along with parking. I told him I know about those fees now based on my previous stay. He then gave me two complimentary bottles of water and free parking! Awesome service!! My only complaint would be that their bathrooms are a bit grimy though. Read less

It did get a little noisy in the morning when people are leaving to go to Disneyland as you can hear people talking outside and doors banging, but overall, was still a great stay. Read less
