TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
My daughter and I visited the hotel for a 4-day stay to attend a weekend function nearby. Our room left little to be desired. The view of the city wasn't the most perfect from the 4th floor, but it... Read more wasn't bad either. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the hotel pool area was gorgeous. We lounged at the pool two times and also enjoyed tropical cocktails on the patio in the evening. The location was in easy walking distance to the beach and downtown Santa Monica. If we had stayed one more day, we would have taken advantage of the free bicycle rental... maybe next time, because I would definitely stay at the Viceroy again. Read less
The Viceroy has a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere coupled with comfortable rooms and a good location. We had toyed with the idea of staying at Shutters on the Beach, but ultimately opted for The... Read more Viceroy on the basis that three nights in one of their 'Grand Ocean View' rooms was about the same as one night in a standard room at Shutters. Considering that the properties literally face each other across Ocean and that you'd be hard-pressed to fault The Viceroy for comfort or service, for us this was the right choice. Of note are the helpful concierge, the complimentary bike rentals (although there are only ten adult bikes available on a first-come, first-served basis) and the free wi-fi. If you're being picky you could point to the fact that the two pools are small - they're really splash pools rather than swimming pools - and that the garden really doesn't get any sun after lunchtime. Overall, however, the hotel very much lives up to billing and we're happy to recommend it. Read less

Read more By far our best customer service experience in Santa Monica...or elsewhere in a long, long time! The venue for our daughter's recent wedding was across the street at a hotel on the beach, but after a couple of frustrating experiences, we were delighted to find this gem and their wonderful staff, especially Maribel Perez, Conference Services Manager and James Vierra, Concierge. With Maribel's help, we arranged a room block and a welcome party for our out-of-town guests at the Viceroy--sight unseen and from the east coast--just based on her professional, yet friendly manner and outstanding customer service. The outside of the hotel belies the experience within, and from the moment we arrived late night one evening, we were made to feel like valued guests by everyone on their staff throughout our stay. All of our guests were equally impressed with the classy, relaxed atmosphere and high level of customer service and the wonderful food and drinks. Even the catered food at our party disappeared quickly with raves! We chose a one bedroom suite which was perfect for our week's stay. The view is fabulous as the suites are on the 7th and 8th floors. There was also a full bar and Nespresso machine available. The bathroom was huge with separate rooms for the shower and sinks/commode with lots of shelf and closet room. And the bed was super comfortable! Also, there were large flat-screens in both the bedroom and living room areas. And much to our surprise (and relief) the Viceroy also provides transportation. James, our Concierge, arranged all of our itinerary from airport runs to shuttling the bridal party and guests between weekend venues. It was such a pleasure to work with Maribel and James for such an important event in our lives. Much like a party, it's always the people who make a hotel stay fun and enjoyable. The Viceroy excels at customer service and made our stay one that we will never forget! We look forward to our next visit when can have time to enjoy the lovely pool! Read less

Read more I stayed for 4 nights for the Massive Attack concert at The Greek Theatre. Outside looks like Atlantic City beach Motel. My first thought...Oh No! Upon passing the large well manicures 12 foot bush/trees; you enter another world. So DON'T turn around. With the door being held for entrance and well greeted, walked into boutique lounge check-in (took all of 5 minutes), handed a WELCOME glass of Presecco, and took a wiff of what later became the Viceroy scent. Lovely. The lobby was filled with Victorian themed mirrors everywhere. I will agree with all the previous reviews. I will stray to the more detailed. Those things that separate 4 and 5 star (for me). SERVERS/SERVICE While the wait staff was attentive, I did not find them proactive. Several times we had to "get their attention" in order to be served, while at the pool. There is a thin line between hipster and shaggy. Black is the attire, but it should be crisp black, or intentional black. Not just Black faded jeans with shirt. Upscale Santa Monica, should be crisp all black, or Grey and black (as not to see such a despairing difference in the black between pants/jeans and shirt). They were young and didn't seemed confident. Suggestions: Black and grey with ironed shirts and well fitted jeans, with belts! a little better training. Drinks were GREAT! ROOM In the rooms, in 2014, a convenient addition in any room should be a Beats/Bose style speaker docking system with various adapters. The current is a radio style alarm clock with only iPhone 4 connections. (Not very chic) They may have had an adapter for iPhone 5 & 6 at the desk, but since I brought my own I was OK. But to reduce the hassle from me keeping up with it, it should be provided. Bed: Good Night sleep. Pillows soft but not fluffy. (minor) BATH/SHOWER The shower was fine. I've noticed that some other reviewers were appalled by the rust stains. I had them too, but it didn't translate into dirty or unclean to me. However, I would have liked some direct light in the shower. Ideally, a dimmer would be FANTASTIC in my shower/tub. As it stands, there is no light in the shower/tub bay. Having the option of a wireless receiver in there for music would have been OVER THE TOP Good!.... think Romance ROOM/VIEW: We were in room 326. I would suggest a higher floor. While the view of the ocean was nice; it was a little obstructed by the building in front. Depending on the occasion, your budget or availability. The ocean view was sufficient; just not perfect. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION period. A+ Walking distance to fine restaurants, Venice beach, Beach across the street, 3rd St Promenade etc. Couldn't get much better. FITNESS CENTER: Functional. Would have liked an area for floor exercises with mats, a plain wall for wall supported exercises. The walls were all mirrored. High expectations would have loved a sauna or steam room. (that's 5 star) WIFI - Free Wifi a little slow and spotty Read less
