TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
Overall I enjoyed the stay and the service overall. The outdoor sitting areas around the pools were very inviting and comfortable. Theres wasn't hot tub to relax in which was missed greatly. The room... Read more we stayed in was nice and clean but was small for the going price. Parking was expensive but again the service was outstanding! Thanks for the great memories! Read less
My husband and I stayed here for two nights as the last part of our trip to the US. We picked the Viceroy as our "treat" stay before departing back home. From the moment we arrived we were treated... Read more like we were the only guests staying at the hotel. They had emailed my husband before we arrived to see if we were celebrating anything and he advised it was our wedding anniversary during our stay. All the staff seemed to know and congratulated us on our 32nd anniversary. The manager on duty showed us around the hotel, explaining all the amenities and showed us to our room. We had been upgraded to a junior suite with the most breathtaking view of the ocean, providing a spectacular view of the Santa Monica sunsets. With a bottle of sparking wine waiting in our room the ambiance was set for our two days of r&r. We took advantage of the complimentary bikes offered by the Viceroy and explored the boardwalk along the beach, which is a very leisurely and easy ride from the hotel. The only negative was there was a photo shoot for a lifestyle/home magazine around the pool area and while we were advised we had full access it was a little hard to relax and being a little self conscious I did not want to go in the pool with all the people working. I was a little concerned about ruining the shot. I am assuming this would have been in a notice to the guests, but ours was for the week earlier. Having said that, during the night they also had 3 bands that came to play around the pool area and that was a good surprise as we were not aware they were going to be there. My husband and I both love live music and were very happy to watch the local talent, they were very talented musicians. The ambience outside whether it be eating breakfast or having a cocktail around the pool at night was beautiful. The furniture and décor was divine and elevates the luxury feel of the hotel. I could not fault the staff, they all treated us like we were the only guests there. Would highly recommend this hotel and I will look at staying at their other locations in the future. Read less
I stayed at the Viceroy awhile ago and I meant to write this review sooner! I surprised my partner with a trip to Los Angeles for the weekend for our anniversary. This was my first stay at a Viceroy... Read more , and I knew right when we pulled up that the weekend was going to be magical. The front desk agents were friendly and accommodating even when I asked to be moved to a room on a higher level. The lobby was chic and all of the employees were very professional. The first night of our stay, I called down to the concierge to ask what her recommendations were for dinner. She was insightful, gave me plenty of dining options, and proactive about booking reservations. Not only was she knowledgable about the area, she was also educated about the availability and logistics of each restaurant. She asked me about what specifically I was looking for in a restaurant and I ended up telling how it was my anniversary! After a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant for which I cannot recall the name, we returned back to our room only to see chocolate dipped strawberries and a bottle of champagne from the lovely concierge I had spoken with on the phone earlier! It truly warmed my heart that it felt like she actually cared about my stay as opposed to other hotels. I went down to the concierge desk the next day to thank that woman (whose name I cannot remember unfortunately) but sadly I was told she had the day off. All in all, a spectacular weekend at the Viceroy Santa Monica, where the employees and the facilities are far above par. Read less
We checked into this hotel which on the surface looks amazing but sadly once you have gone beyond the reception area, where we were met with total indifference not much improved. One of the main... Read more problems we had, which we learnt was a common problem, was the wooden frame of the bed protruded so far into the room we were both constantly smashing our legs on the wood. In fact my husband ended up by the first morning with a gash on his shin!. We told the young lady at the reception but we were met with total indifference and informed all the beds are like that. No offer to help or investigate at all. Once outside a female manager offered to look into it and said this was a common problem that happened all the time, and when we returned to the room, they had used black masking tape on each corner which looked awful and after a few hours fell off. We were never offered to change rooms or be upgraded bearing in mind we were celebrating an anniversary and meant to return to the Viceroy at the end of our vacation. The staff are cool and indifferent and really were not interested. We cancelled our return visit and went to our old haunt, the classic Beverly Hilton. Such a shame we had high expectations but the breakfast was very limited and mediocre and we definitely would not book to stay again which is a shame as we go regularly to Los Angeles and really expected better. It took days for my husbands leg to heal and although they offered a doctor it really meant very little and we felt that was to protect themselves from a lawsuit more than caring about the fact the first few days of our holiday were ruined! Definitely wouldn't stay again! Read less
I wonder if I stayed in the same hotel as my travel agent and the previous reviewers? The Viceroy is not on the ocean , but on a busy road, needs serious updating and the rooms are very small. Also... Read more there are no balconies - don't be fooled by the photography. (Eg we took to wearing earplugs to drown out the noise of the old and creaking aircon) The pool looks nice but is practically unusable for hotel guests because it is a very small area which is overrun with people having business meetings and is only in the sunshine in the morning. On the plus side - Santa Monica is a great place to base yourself for a LA vacation and the Viceroy is well situated within the city. The hotel has a hip bar - agreed but I am struggling to point out anything else as a positive other than that most of the staff were helpful and competent. Personally I expect a lot more for $600 night. Very disappointed... Read less
