We could not have wished for a better hotel with a great location. A few meters away from Times Square, The Crowne Plaza, is a wonderful place to stay in while in New York. From restaurants to... Read more fast food joints, from cafes to a line of shopping stores, from broadways shows to attractions, this hotel seems to be in the center of it all. As we were IHG members, we were also treated to free internet services for all 7 days of our stay and usage of the gym. Staying on the 37th floor with wall-to-wall windows with great views, clean bathrooms, comfortably sized rooms and even basic amenities like ironing board etc. made us feel we had made a good choice. Courteous staff, excellent prompt service, privacy despite the hotel being brimming with activity almost all the time will make us book this hotel once again incase we come back to NYC in future! The Crowne Plaza Times Square is an almost perfect place to spend a weekend in NYC. We just went with a family group, including three grandkids who were seeing the sights for the first time. The... Read more hotel is in an ideal location for a short walk to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the NBC Observation Deck, as well as the M&M Store, Toys R Us, the American Girl store and the NY Yankees store. In addition, our rooms on the 37th floor afforded us great views of the city, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I am qualifying the "perfect" rating only because the lining of our tub had large areas where the outer layer of enamel was peeled away, an oversight that surprised me in a property like the Crowne Plaza. Overall, though, a great location from which to enjoy the city anytime, but especially during the holiday season! . Read less
Below is a letter sent to IHG, and unfortunately, they keep trying to offer me 20,000 rewards points as an apology. However, 20,000 points wouldn't give me a single night at the hotel I had problems... Read more with, according to their rewards website. "I recently booked to stay in your hotel for 10 nights after great recommendations from friends and family who have had great experiences at your hotel. I thought Id write you this private message so your higher management is aware of the mishaps I encountered, and thus are give yet another opportunity to turn this situation around before I use more public forums like trip advisor to express my disappointments with my recent stay at your hotel. After putting up with three days of cold water coming through the showers, I informed the staff of this inconvenience and had a maintenance person attend the problem overnight. After fiddling with the taps he advised us that ‘well, youll just have to wait for the hot water to flow through” - after 20 minutes of waiting, no hot water. We were offered a room move and even though we didn’t want to pack and move rooms, we agreed. We went to NY to enjoy it’s nightlife and amazing restaurants, so were asleep through most mornings (ensuring to have the DND on the door so we weren’t disturbed through our sleep). Without fail, we were woken up every day at about midday and asked if indeed we did not require service. This was a clear indication that the housekeeper was rushing to get through her rooms so she could go home. If that wasn’t enough, one morning we were woken up just before midday by a housekeeper who entered our room (even though we had a do not disturb sign on the door). She opened the door and announced herself. We jumped out of bed and realised that someone had entered our room. I advised her that we did not require housekeeping (as outlined by the DND sign on the door). What follows was probably the most absurd experience I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. She walked into our room, turned the lights on, and mumbled that she had to use the phone to inform the office that we did not require service. My wife and I were in our underwear and were in shock when she ignored our privacy sign, walked into our room, turned the lights on, used our phone and left, without turning the lights off, may I add! If the above atrocious service wasn’t enough to spoil our stay with you, we returned to our room one night to find that the room was absurdly hot, even though the thermostat was set to a much lower temperature. After fiddling with it for quite a while, I once again called maintenance at midnight and they had a person attend, who removed half the bedroom wall to fix the issue. He informed me that the thermostat was broken and suggested I cracked a window open until the morning when they would offer me a room move. May I add that the outside temperature was -1c, against the 27c that the broken heating unit was blowing into our room. I went straight down to reception and asked to speak to the manager. He apologised profusely and insisted I room moved in the morning. He also advised me that he would give me a nights stay complimentary. Seeing that I had booked 10 nights, I felt that a 10 percent reduction on my room rate was pathetic based on the three horrible issues I encountered. I called the Intercontinental straight away and made a reservation for that very same night. They accommodated me straight away and were amazed to hear the issues I encountered whilst staying with you. I must stress that the night manager was quite apologetic but it was too little too late. Although I understand that maintenance issues are a little out of your control, the service we received by housekeeping really demonstrated that you actually don’t seem to care too much about your guests."
