Lovely hotel that is centrally located near Grand Central Station. Business stay and literally the closest hotel to my meeting. Room was large and comfortable. Quiet - for New York City - and very modern + new appearing. Good sized closet and bathroom. Appears to be a lobby bar - restaurant, but did not use. Front desk personnel personable, helpful, pleasant. For the value of the room, the actual room charge for a mid-town Manhattan hotel was very reasonable. However, the ridiculous New York City, State taxes are...ridiculous. Literally added over $100 to room charge. There is actually a charge for the Jacob Javits Center, which is nowhere near this hotel and which I certainly was not using. To be clear, these charges are NOT the fault of the hotel. They ARE the fault of the people of New York City and New York State who continually elect politicians who have no concept of a financial budget. Not sure how any tourists can afford to visit New York. Also not sure why they would want to in the current condition of the city. If traveling on business, and your meeting is in the Grand Central Terminal area, this is a great spot. If thinking about a tourist visit, try Yellowstone National Park instead. Read less

We spent a lot of time choosing this hotel; the things that decided us were the location in midtown & the fact that we could have breakfast included as an option. It was nice but not perhaps up to the standard of some of the 5* hotels in other cities we have stayed in. Positives - the concierge, reception & door staff couldn't have been more helpful & gave us helpful advice when we asked. Some of the bar & waiting staff were lovely while others were a bit lacklustre. I agree with other reviews that the rooms were small but the hotel is generally elegant & pretty. Negatives - (i) the safes need to be re-designed - they hang so that things have to be piled up on top of each other rather than the usual position of pushing things to the back. This means that delicate items such as cameras might be on top of each other. (ii) more vegetarian/vegan options on the menu please. I might have been tempted to eat here more than once during our stay if there had been more suitable choices. (iii) please get rid of the barmy system of charging someone for a bottle of water each time they open the fridge door, which is apparently what happened with our bill. We didn't take anything from our mini-bar fridge but 3 bottles of water were added to our final bill! People use their fridge for all sorts of things - medications, toiletries, water etc, so they shouldn't do this. Read less

Great location decent hotel. Only stayed two nights on business. Probably biggest issue I had was the lack of staff at reception. One person only. Not the most friendly but polite (NYC style) but also probably overworked as well. Rooms were clean with good amenities. Would go back but not if I'm in a rush.

Great Hotel and great staff. The entire staff made our stay very enjoyable and pleasant. Everything went well for our stay and we look forward to staying at the Intercontinental Barclay again in the future. Great location too! We were able to walk to many places.
