Just got back from our first ever trip to New York. We booked this hotel and kept an eye on what other people were saying about it. When we checked in we were given an up grade to a better room which... Read more was a great start. Our room was very comfortable especially the bed. The cleaners were excellent and kept things in check. We kept away from the front of house staff so we were not put in the position of tipping. The hotel is authentic and in my view would be spoilt by modenisation, it is so central for all your New York needs. Excellent trip. Read less
We have just returned from a four night stay at this hotel. We wanted a hotel that represented old fashioned New York rather than a modern generic hotel. This hotel lived up to our expectations, the... Read more lobby was very grand with Christmas decorations and a striking tree in the centre of the lobby. Our room was a really good size with a huge comfy bed. We stayed in a superior king room, it was just like the photos on the website, we were very happy. The location is unbeatable. There was a cafe called 'Cosi Cafe' directly opposite the hotel entrance that we went to every morning for a reasonably priced breakfast, at the back of this cafe was a door leading directly in to Grand Central Terminal. Minutes walk from Times Square, 5th Avenue, Rockerfeller Centre. We also received free Wifi throughout our stay by downloading the hotel app prior to our arrival. The only downsides regarding this hotel is that in our bedroom we had an interconnecting door to the room next door and this is just one door thick meaning the conversations and movements of the neighbours were clearly heard and it could be noisy. Also, the staff weren't the friendliest but unfortunately we found a lot of New Yorkers to be like this in general. Also, there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room which we feel we would have benefitted from. Overall we loved the hotel and would highly recommend it to anybody who likes non contemporary chain hotels as this hotel really does have the edge. Read less
We booked this hotel online - 2 rooms - 5 guests in total - and it proved to be a great choice. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Grand Central Station so getting around the City by subway was simple... Read more . The other benefit was it took 15 minutes to walk to Time Square and 15 minutes to walk up 5th Avenue as far as Tiffanys and Schwarz Toy Store. The hotel itself is amazing at this time of year - decorated for Christmas, the foyer looks and smells amazing when you walk in. The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and take the time to point out prebooking for shows, Ground 0 etc to avoid long waiting times at attractions. Really enjoyed my stay in NY with the Roosevelt as our base. Only 1 downfall - there was a daily charge for WiFi but staff advised us to go next door to cafe for free access!!! Will definately go back! Read less
Myself and my friends have just returned from new york, and the only thing that let us down was the staff at this hotel. Like anyone, each night we wanted to have a drink before we went out for a... Read more meal and drinks, however the bar staff (as well as the tiny bar and seating available for such a large hotel) made this such a painful experience. Every night we would struggle to find a seat, then if we did, would have to ask a member of the wait staff to be served several times. Even after a drink was finished, there was never a "same again? , another?" On one occasion, we found a table with four seats for the four of us, my two friends went to get a drink at the bar with me and another sat at the table, when another resident asked to take a seat from our table, we advised we had two friends at the bar and he huffed and walked off back to his table, who then spoke to the barman and he came over and took the chair advising us that "they needed it more". Disgusting. we are in our mid to late 20's , and other people who were older than us got preferential treatment, and we were made to feel unwelcome and were patronised on several occasions. I will never stay here, and will actively advise my friends not to stay here as we were treated so badly. Rooms decent, decent price and goot location, but good manners and service should be a thing even the cheapest hotel or restaurant should have. Read less
Arriving in New York was an experience! But once we got to our hotel, we checked in no problems and went straight up to our room. Its a beautiful hotel and the rooms were good size for New York...
