Q. How do I reserve a seat on a Virgin Atlantic flight?

A. All seating requests can only be made on-line, to do this please follow the below steps:
  • Go to the Virgin Atlantic website
  • Go to the ‘Manage my booking’ section on the left hand side of the site
  • Click amend
  • Click on retrieve booking
  • Enter booking reference number (ie 123/S09) and name
  • The next page will automatically show booking details unavailable, however continue to enter your departure date and reference number
  • This will then show your parties flight details
  • Go into the amend booking section
  • Then choose the ‘where’s my seat’ section – this will bring up a seating map, showing all flight seats available to book.

Q. What is Premium Economy?

A. Premium Economy is Virgin Atlantic's enhanced dedicated and award winning cabin, designed to give you plenty of personal space to relax, stretch out and unwind. When flying in Premium Economy, you can take advantage of the following services:

  • Dedicated Premium Economy check in, if you haven't checked in online already!
  • Priority boarding when you get to the plane.
  • On the plane you can relax in your seat with a pitch of 38 inches!
  • An additional two degrees of recline.
  • Laptop power (only available on London Heathrow routes).
  • Pre-flight drink.
  • A complimentary newspaper to read.
  • A personal seatback TV offering the latest blockbuster movies, the hottest TV shows and up to 14 audio channels ranging from pop to classical.
  • Your own devoted cabin crew to guarantee prompt and attentive service.

Q. What is the seat pitch on Virgin Atlantic planes?

A. Generally, the seat pitches on Virgin Atlantic planes are as follows, although please note that these measurements are approximate:
Economy Class 30" pitch 17" wide Recline 5%
Premium Economy 38" pitch 18" wide Recline 10%
Upper Class nothing to worry about in upper class the seats are on an angle so there is no one sat in front of you and the seat reclines into a Flat Bed (how great is that!!!)
Seat pitch measurments are from the back of your seat to the back of the seat in front of you.

Q. How can I book a seat with extra legroom?

A. For Virgin Atlantic flights, economy seats with extra legroom (i.e. exit or bulkhead seats) can only be allocated on the day or departure by check-in staff and are subject to availability - we recommend you arrive 3 hours prior to departure to check availability and prices.

Q. I have requested a specific seat at the time of booking, where can I find the seat number on the tickets?

A. The seat number does not show up on the ticket. Ask at the airport before you check-in.

Q. Where does it show on the ticket that Premium Economy/Upper Class seats have been booked?

A. Premium Economy is indicated on flight tickets in the class section as H or K. Upper Class is indicated on flight tickets in the class section as Z, D or J.

Q. Can I fly if I'm pregnant?

A. Congratulations! Providing your pregnancy has been uncomplicated and you are not experiencing a related medical condition; there will be no problem flying until your 28th week of pregnancy. After your 28th week, we need to have a signed certificate from your doctor stating that you are fit to travel and confirming your dates of pregnancy. After your 34th week, we can only carry you for urgent medical or compassionate reasons and you will have to be accompanied by a doctor or nurse, and only on approval of the Virgin Atlantic company doctor.

Q. What age is an air passenger considered an infant?

A. Children under 2 years are considered an infant. Please note that infants must sit on your lap. If you want your infant to have a seat on the plane, the child price will apply.

Q. I want to book a UK connecting flight to the airport. How can I do this?

A. For holidays where an internal UK flight from selected regional airports is required and these are not showing when you book your holiday - Please call 0844 557 5825 to check availability and prices and book. If you have already made your holiday booking online then you can call this number and quote your booking reference to add a domestic flight to your booking. Please note that all domestic flights are subject to availability and cannot be added within 21 days of departure.

Q. How do you arrange a surprise on a Virgin Atlantic flight?

Q. I have just got married and my passport is still in my maiden name - Is this ok?

A. Yes, you can travel with your passport still in yur maiden name but you must take along your marriage certificate and another form of identification (preferably with your picture on it). EXCEPTION You cannot travel to the USA unless your passport and ticket show the same name. The USA will NOT ACCEPT a marriage certificate with your passport in your maiden name whilst your ticket shows your married name.
Please note: It is still the passenger's responsibility to check all visa and immigration requirements prior to travel

Q. What is Upper Class?

A. The ultimate service. Big, luxurious, enveloping seats and loads of space. The seats recline to create a flat bed. Personal attention and service. Some of the perks include:

Q. How do I reserve a bulkhead seat?

A. Bulkhead seats are reserved for Virgins requiring a 'Sky Cot' for infants under 12 months. To reserve a bulkhead seat, please call Virgin Atlantic on 08448 747 747 (Mon-Fri)

Q. What are the duty free allowances flying in to the UK?

A.
  • 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250 gms of tobacco.
  • 1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% volume, or 2 litres of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs.
  • 4 litres of still table wine.
  • 16 litres of beer.
  • £390 worth of all other goods including perfume and souvenirs

You can combine products in the alcohol category, and the tobacco category, provided you do not exceed your total allowance. For example, if you bring in 100 cigarettes (half your full allowance) you can also bring in 25 cigars (half your full allowance). This would make up your full tobacco allowance.

Q. What food will be served on my flight?

A. Forget all those jokes about airline food - ours is absolutely delicious. We've got a choice of three main meals for you, including a veggie option, and don't forget that drinks are free throughout your flight, not just at meal times. Your free amenity kit is full of great things including postcards, eyeshades, earplugs, socks and Virgin Vie lip balm.

Q. What type of aircraft do Virgin Atlantic use?

A. Virgin Atlantic have two different types of aircraft within there fleet at present; these are the Airbus A340 and Boeing 747-400 aircraft. A. Virgin Atlantic has 2 classes of service in addition to Economy. With a separate Check In and cabin, Premium Economy really is in a class of its own. Upper class is simply the ultimate of all upgrades it has to be experienced to be believed!

A. You can do your Duty Free shopping from the comfort of your own home by calling our preorder team on 0844 579 0055. Once you have made your purchase all you need to do is check in and chill out. Q. I have internal/domestic flights booked, but I have no tickets, what should I do?

A. If you have booked internal flights for any destination other than China and Virgin Blue (within Australia), internal flight tickets should be included with your travel documents. Please ensure all tickets are checked as most internal and/or domestic flights will be issued on the same ticket as the international sector. If this is not the case, please call our Service Team and we will ensure these are sent to you.
