You’ve done it! You’ve booked your once-in-a-lifetime-holiday to Florida. You’re already working out how to cram that extra swimsuit into the case, and pondering how to keep the kids - and hubby - from exploding with all the excitement.
Now then, how to fill that itinerary? Magical memories await – you just have to choose which ones to make. Are you thinking about relaxing on that glorious beach? Or perhaps you’d all rather test your limits on adrenaline-fuelled rides? There’s something for everyone in the Sunshine State. If you’ll permit us, we’ve got some top-notch tips to get you started, whatever your style:
Florida for Adventurers
Evenings and weekends are already replete with tales of you being a superhero with the little ones (and even the grown ones too). For you – adventure is just a regular Saturday. So when it comes to a holiday, the bigger, the wilder and the scarier the better as far as you’re concerned. Try these ideas on for size:
If you’re visiting in the autumn, Halloween Horror Nights will keep you on your toes. This spooky event will be right up your street. Are you brave enough to endure streets of mutants, mayhem and movie-moment-jump-scares to explore the haunted houses awaiting throughout the park? We’ll be there to capture the terror on your face. We wouldn’t miss it!
We all know adventure isn’t seasonal, so don’t fret if you can’t make the Horror Nights. Jump right in and make a splash with Universal’s Volcano Bay. Run straight for those water slides and white-water rapids. Forget lounging on the beach, and have a blast around the bubbling geysers. With so much excitement, we wouldn’t begrudge you a victory lap floating around the serene rivers to end the day.
Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Launch Experience
This is no simple mission, Commander. Take part in a prelaunch briefing in ‘shuttle operations’. Climb aboard the shuttle and start your ascent in an eight-and-a-half minute launch simulation. It’s so realistic, you’ll feel like you’re being propelled into orbit.
Whether you called yourself ‘Space Adventurer’ or ‘Space Pirate’ as a youngster; we’ve all had the dream of becoming an astronaut and going into space. Even veteran NASA astronauts admit it’s the next best thing to flying aboard the real space shuttle.
If you think that’s the only wildlife you can experience around Florida, then you’re in for a wonderful surprise. For something a little different, the expanse of Everglades is within easy reach of Orlando. You can be zooming around the world-famous ‘River of Grass’ on a fan boat in no time, spotting alligators, manatee, turtles, and other indigenous critters.
A few other tips from our guests:
"I'd recommend buying your Universal Studios Florida tickets in the UK as they are valid for unlimited entry... for 14 consecutive days."
“Don’t forget to budget the extra $20 each day if staying outside of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Universal Studios Florida.”
There’s plenty of adventure to be had across the Atlantic. Florida is a playground for all – whatever you’re after from your holiday, there’s lots to see, hear and do. If you fancy a different kind of holiday in Florida; we’ve got a few more ideas for you to look at:
