The hotel

The Cabanas hotel is ideal for the whole family, offering relaxed, informal, comfortable accommodation in a lush lakeside setting. The hotel is so-called because the rooms are arranged in cabana-style blocks. Waterworld is Sun City's lake area where you can partake in various water sports, including water-skiing and parasailing, or, for the less adventurous, a gentle cruise is always pleasant. There are many different activities for the children such as the Animal World, Kamp Kwena children's club and an adventure playground. Adults can soak up the sun poolside and enjoy chic cocktails at the Cabanas Pool Deck.

Hotel information

380 newly refurbished rooms on 2 floors in 7 buildings with no lifts. All with air-conditioning, TV, tea/coffee maker, fridge, safe and hairdryer. Standard Rooms have a shower only (no bath), sleeping maximum 2 adults. Standard Lake Facing Rooms, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Family Rooms have a double bed and double sleeper sofa, sleeping 2 adults and 2 children.

Ground Lake Floor Family Rooms and Upstairs Lake Family Rooms are available, sleeping 2 adults and 2 children. 

Palm Terrace restaurant (buffet breakfast), Treasure Island snack bar (lunch), Cabanas Pool Bar & Restaurant (light meals). Swimming pool and kids' pool. Tennis, water-skiing* and parasailing*. Cruises* on lake. 18-hole golf courses*. Valley of Waves water park (​there is a flat charge rate of R50.00 non-refundable for Valley of Waves towels to all hotel guests and day visitors). Kamp Kwena (children's activity centre). Complimentary WiFi.

Lovely room, fantastic breakfast buffet. Such a good hotel. Everything has been upgraded in the rooms. We had a wonderful stay. All facilities are very clean and maintained. A lot of staff available to assist. Busses ferry you between hotels. This hotel is great value for your money.

Such a beautiful place for local getaways. Very clean and well managed. Having a pool for adults and kids separate was very thoughtful, plus a full time life guard on-site. The waiters and waitress at the hotel bar are phenomenal, they always pay attention to detail and quick to respond to any request. The breakfast was great but the food from the bar was even more exceptional. Easily a 10/10 for local family getaway. Once you are there, there is no much need to ever leave the hotel until you checkout. Literally has everything, except for dinner which you can have at the main SunCity food court. Read less

Disgusting facilities. The place is falling apart. Trash lying around the pool with overflowing bins. Rooms were stuffy and too small. The food was very average. The children facilities were old and dilapidated. Won't go there again or recommend it

The family room is tiny. Two single beds plus a very small fold out couch. Not a futon. More like an adult size version of those foam couch/beds you get for toddlers. Also, the double rooms are on the other side of the hotel from the family rooms so two of our kids were on their own a long way from us. We booked well in advance but no one told us of the layout when booking (despite requesting rooms next to each other). By the time we arrived the hotel was fully booked out so we couldn't change rooms. The bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke for some reason (maybe the air intake is in a smoking area?) And the shower was moldy. But the rest of the room was clean. Read less

We have stayed here annually over the last 3 years and as per other reviews rooms are a little small however due to many activities (indoor and outdoor) I do not mind this as much. This resort brings us back annually as it's a place where we can just come and relax while our 11 year old just swims and we njoy a cocktail or 2 and more. Access to the water park and other many activities also keep us busy and is an added bonus. Rooms have always been clean during my visits and breakfast is great with many options.
