Pinewood Beach Resort & Spa

Mombasa, Kenya

The hotel

The Pinewood Beach Resort & Spa rests on one of the most stunning beaches in the Indian Ocean. This small, village style resort offers the simple pleasures of a beach holiday, overlooking an unspoilt stretch of endless, powder white sand and lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. An award-winning hotel, accommodation is very comfortable indeed, created in clusters around beautifully kept gardens, we recommend staying in a Suite which guarantees you your own personal chef who cooks for you every evening. Otherwise there are restaurants to tempt you, all of which use local ingredients and seafood fresh from the ocean. There’s also a lovely day spa with a range of beauty and massage treatments to leave you feeling completely at peace. There’s also a tropical forest to explore, home to the Sykes monkey, the endangered Angolan Colobus monkey and birdlife in abundance. If water sports are top of your list, there’s plenty to keep you amused in the area.

Food has themed nights but the selection available is beautiful and full of flavour. Very considerate to both vegetarian and vegan options. Lunches and breakfast also lovely and reasonably priced. Beach is EMPTY! It’s actual bliss, many people stayed around the pool when we were there as the sea was quite far out but we still had fun. One thing is that it’s relatively quiet around the time I went which meant some people got stressed with children making noise (which isn’t fair! They need to have fun too) BEWARE OF MONKEYS! When they say to close your windows definitely do it- had a midday nap on our last day and woke up to a monkey at the end of the bed! They are friendly and don’t trouble you as you walk around the resort but if you have food/clothes on the balcony they will take them. Read less

They always greeted my wife and I with a big smile followed by a cheery "jambo". The rooms were plenty big enough big beds with good mosquito nets. Showers very good and very hot. Food was very good, quite varied and plentiful. Thanks Polly for suppling my wife with lots of puddings as she has a fatal nut allergy and can often find it hard to get any she can eat. The beach is a lovely white sandy one and was very quiet all the time we were there. There are "beach boy" to one end of the beach but I found it easy to keep away from them till I was ready to go and have a look. Night time was very quiet around the bars and never took long before we got served. we were All Inclusive and my only complaints would be you have to pay for a tea outside of meal times and could only get glasses of water unless you were willing to pay for bottles (though I can understand why). If we went back to Diani Beach we would have no hesitation to book Pinewood! Read less
