This hotel is overpriced for what it has to offer. We wanted a luxury hotel so we went for this and asked for a sea view room. We got to the reception at 15:00, were told to wait for 10min for our room to be ready. 1hr later we had to remind them that we’re still waiting for our room( I don’t mind waiting, just don’t lie about the duration because we could have decided to go for a walk while our room is being prepared). 1:30min later, we were escorted to our room only to find a stressed out cleaner still cleaning the room. He politely asked us to sit in the balcony and wait. 20min later, we had a room that was half assed cleaned, we found empty sugar and tea bags from the previous guest in the drawer, and a long letter of guest complaint from 3months ago in another drawer. We had to go ask for our room to be cleaned again. 2hrs later, I went to use the bathroom and as soon as I flashed it, The bathroom was flooded. We had to go to the reception again to change the room. The receptionist was apologetic and tried to move us but it was downgrading us. We waited for the toilet to be fixed and the rest of the 4nights stay was dreadful. They need to renovate this hotel if they want to call it a luxury hotel. Read less

Visited Serena beach and spa for the second time this year. This was a short visit but the environment provided for a productive 2-day meeting. The room was great with good wi-fi and TV channel options. The breakfast had the wide variety that Serena is known for. Staff were polite and helpful.

I occasionally have meetings in Mombasa and frankly Serena have not let me down yet. I want to mention that the care and professionalism accorded to us is exceptional. No request is too big or too small.... I want to mention single out Anne Wanjiku in the reservation team has built my confidence in the hotel over the years. We needed a very quickly organised Swahili themed dinner event and the conference staff provided an excellent space, vibe and meals accordingly. And when I mean excellent we even had their well known henna painter providing our guests some body art on request. We loved the set up... and the choice of cuisine. It left me and my team the head space to worry about the meeting and its outcome. With some downtime I enjoyed the pool and the attendants were friendly and professional. The ala carte menu offers yummy tempting delights.... was so pleased to witness the pruning of coconut trees and getting some fresh madafu. My room was impeccable- I prefer the older ones and despite being dated still hold a nostalgic charm for me. The housekeeping staff was wonderful always checking in and saying hello... making sure I was happy with my stay. My meals were great.. a small nudge to be more consistent with good freshly brewed African tea (if you serve good coffee then you need to offer good chai... not that stick a tea bag into tepid water stuff... or worse mix old brew and new tealeaves or worst of all reheated old tea... we can tell when you do shortcuts...) tea makes or breaks the day for me and would appreciate it if you gave us a decent start of the day. All in all I am pleased that the resort has remained consistent over the years. Read less
